Feelin’ Groovy: A Cam and Luke TR Completed 7/31 - Page 51 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry the wave was a bit disappointing but glad you got some time to just explore and enjoy the Contemporary! It's absolutely my favorite resort but unfortunately none of the restaurants there are my favorite (aside from the cupcakes at Contempo Cafe)!
The Contemporary is just a little too "contemporary" for me, but then AKL is my favorite and they are very different. Like you, the Contemporary really doesn't have a restaurant to draw us back trip after trip.

Hope you had a great birthday and a wonderful anniversary. Glad to hear that Luke is feeling much better!
Thanks! Luke felt even better today, so we are finally making progress.

I love your ur Savannah shots! Your dishes sounded like they should have been delicious lol. Oh well. It sounds like you made a good call with your evening plans.
The Wave always sounds like a love it or hate it place. Too bad they had to replace the Steakhouse at the Contemporary. I ate there once, and it was delicious!!!

Thanks! The dishes were not horrible, just nothing spectacular. We had other meals that were just marvelous that this one paled next to them.

A steakhouse might have been more to our liking. We didn't hate The Wave. We just weren't wowed by it like we thought we would be.
NEXT: Fulfilling Final Wishes at Magic Kingdom Day 10 Tuesday, May 17, 2016 Part 1
As I did every morning, our checked for wildlife activity outside our balcony. I was able to get a few shots, but my camera lens was fogging up due the extreme temperature difference between our room and the outdoors. I could tell it was going to be a muggy day.
We weren’t moving too quickly this morning, but we managed to make it to the Magic Kingdom around 10:15. We first stopped at Starbucks for a bite of breakfast. Luke repeated his favorite choice of a Bacon Gouda Ciabatta sandwich with a Café Mocha Grande. I switched back to the ham and cheese croissant and orange juice. We found a table across from The Plaza to eat as our favorite little alleyway was already full.
From breakfast, we made our way into Fantasyland for our first FastPass+ on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. I got a photo of the sign on our way in, and then a photo of one of the mine cars in motion afterwards. Our second ride on this cool little coaster was just as fun as the first.
At this point, neither of us could remember we had taken a PhotoPass picture with the castle in the background. We had, but another set of photos never hurts.
PhotoPass photos:
Our camera:
From the castle, we trekked into Adventureland for another ride on Pirates of the Caribbean. But I didn’t take any photos as we didn’t want to tell any tales. :rolf2: Since Aloha Isle was nearby Luke felt he must have a Dole Whip. I really do like the new location as it is shady and handles large crowds so much better. We did have a little strangeness here as the CM directing folks into the area sent us to the longest line. Very odd! The next available CM simply signaled for us to come to his line though.
I had been looking the whole trip for a Mickey hand spoon rest. I had bought one quite a few years ago, but broke it between the May 2015 and this trip. Luke has glued it back together twice for me, and we jokingly, call it the FrankenMickey. I saw on the Shop Parks app that one was available at the Briar Patch in Frontierland, so that was our next destination. Unfortunately there was no spoon rest, so I bought coasters instead. :rolf2: This was the first I had seen the coasters, or at least truly noted them. Luke said he wondered why I hadn’t bought them already.
Our next FastPass+ attraction was Splash Mountain, but it was down when we first arrived at the Briar Patch, and was still down when we’d made our purchase. So we decided to head out of Magic Kingdom for the last time and spend a little while at Animal Kingdom. We took the WDW Railroad to Main Street.
Luke used his camera phone to take some shots while we rode the train.
This one is my favorite that he took.
These he took once we got to the Main Street Station. When you see mine below, you'll note that his phone takes photos as well as my DSLR.
These photos I took with the camera once we got to the train station.
Before leaving, we picked up a bottled Coke Zero for me from the Confectionary since the humidity today was oppressive, and then we exited through the tunnels and it was goodbye Magic Kingdom until October (now September).
Mystery Photos: #1 Where was this taken? Hint: It is in Magic Kingdom.
#2 Where was this taken? Hint it is also in MK, but nowhere near the #1.
NEXT: A Margarita and Expedition Everest (make a great combination according to Luke)
Sorry to see your trip is ending. I've enjoyed reading it.
For the mystery photos, number one I'm going to say is in Adventureland. I think, as you're walking towards PoTC, it's on the left towards the big gates leading to the CM only area. I think it's across from the talking skull portion of the Pirate game (IIRC)
The second I think is a set of gates in the Train Station I think near the stairs. IIRC too you walk by them and as they are on the right, the boards with departures and arrivals (where my home town is listed) is almost in front of you.
I could be totally wrong on both though as it's only been a year since I've been there
Sorry to hear that you had a less than stellar experience at The Wave! I ate there once, just after opening and just thought it was ok! Great photos from your balcony and of all the activity on the savanna! A nice time for your final time in the MK with plenty packed in!

Excellent answers! You have both exactly right!

We manage to cover everything we wanted to at MK, so that made leaving easier.
