Our Magical New York Wedding-- a Pixie Dusted Wedding and Honeymoon Report! - Page 51 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Okay so here we are! After 40 pages of wedding planning, and 11 pages of Wedding and Honeymoon pictures and updates this is the final update from our last two days in paradise!
Just to get myself in the storytelling mood... we had a perfect wedding day, after the rainiest July in years the weather waited for me and Rob to come in from our sunset picture session with the photographer before the downpour that was scheduled for the AM, everything went off without a hitch, everything was just as a pictured and our day was full of love and laughter. We left for our honeymoon the day after and headed to the Bahamas. We enjoyed the ocean and the beach... all the amazing restaurants... the private island, Sandals Cay... an afternoon of snorkeling... and a day at Atlantis swimming with dolphins...
Our 4th day started like most all the rest-- with breakfast at the most delicious breakfast buffet we have ever enjoyed!
After breakfast at around 9:30 we decided to go swimming. We sort of pool hopped this morning and checked out the two main pools, the hot tub, etc. After a few hours we decided to sign up to go sailing!! It looked like fun and we love the OC and the boats were just like Seth's "Summer Breeze"!
Our sailing lesson wasn't until 1:30 so we decided to take the boat over to the private island for lunch and tanning- lol. I loved how they had the paradise punch waiting for you with an island welcome when you got off the little ferry! We enjoyed a meal at Cafe Goombay, same restaurant, but different choices this time and returned to the mainland by about 1:00.
So, we freshened up and headed out for our lesson. Now, let me preface this next part by saying that Rob is not very sporty. He works out on his own at the gym but was never much of a team sports kinda guy, I am very athletic on the other hand and love pilates classes and aerobics and team sports. Knowing that... if you had to chose one of us to be the "captain" of a sailboat, which one of us would you pick? The one with natural athletic ability, right? Well for some reason we decided Rob would control the sail and steer when we got into our boat.
Rob seemed nervous when we got going, I was not, I understood our quickie lesson and was confident we would be fine. After a few minutes sailing out things were great.
Then, Rob said he was starting to feel a little seasick so he wanted to slow down. We'd been sailing for a decent amount of time... 10-15 minutes maybe... but had gotten out VERY far. I was totally okay with the slowing down part! lol! Then he let out the sail. I informed him this would speed us up. He said I was wrong. We started flyyyying across the water. Rob believed me and pulled the sail in. I was right. Disaster averted. Almost. Because of the size of these boats, when you turn and the sail switches sides you must switch the side you are sitting on or there will be two much wieght and the whole boat will topple over. When Rob decided he wanted to start turning around we braced ourselves for the switch sides. Splash!!!! Apparently, our instructor had failed to tell us that when turning completely around you have to anticipate the sails movement and switch sides first. Rob was on the other side of the boat as me. I realized my waterproof 9 West bag was not so waterproof and treaded water while holding my waterfilled bag over my head. Rob swam over to me and tried to figure out the boat. A couple on a jet ski tried to help as well. I was laughing during most of this so I dont remember much about what the conversation was here. LOL! Then the Sandals watersports guy came over, I got in the boat with him, he told Rob how to flip the sailboat back over (he couldnt do it because we were so far out he had brought a boat with a motor that he couldnt leave idol in the water). Rob flipped it and we pulled him back in. Me and the instructor were laughing the entire time! I wish our camera hadn't been soaked because I would loooooove to have pics of Rob during this! lol!
When we got ashore, we laughed it up with the other instructors about why and how we flipped, then headed to our room to freshen up. We changed out of our salty clothes, took showers, kept making eye contact and bursting out laughing, and then checked all the things Id had in my bag. Robs cell phone was destroyed... no big deal tho because he had insurance on it. BTW, Verizon replacement is great. The day we got back he filled out the info online, they sent him his new phone and it came like the next day!
Anyways, our camera was also destroyed. I was slightly nervous about our pics, but not really. If you recall, back to our 2007 trip to WDW when we stayed at CBR... Rob accidentally washed his shorts with his camera in it and the next day when we went into MGM and the memory card was a-ok! (Little did I know that I would sob when we got home and I saw that the memory card was destroyed! lol! The only reason we have all these fabulous pictures is because our amazing wedding photographer sent it out and was able to get all the files recovered!)
In any case, we decided to end our trip the way we started-- back at Kimonos! yum! We even got our fav waiter of the trip-- THEO as our chef! The waitress we had was way better this time... she was so cute... Theo started singing and she did something she called her "Bahama Mama" dance which was hilarious! Anyways, Rob was OF COURSE picked to catch food in his mouth AGAIN and since he loves to laugh and feast he caught it no problemo! lol!
After dinner we went over to the picture hut and ordered our CD. This was to make sure we had pictures in case the memory card was broken and it was soooo expensive! They charge you per picture file and it cost us the same amount as it would for a photopass CD but we only had like 20 images! oh but we did get a free picture frame!
Anyways, I had lost my sunglasses in the sailing flip and we wanted to get some souvenirs so we also went to the gift shop. We got my mom a really cute bell since she was watching Liam boy, and we got some postcards for my scrapbook and this cool card that says "Love is all you need" written in the sand. We had an empty picture frame in the bathroom (we have a beach theme in there) that had places for 3 pictures... and I honeymooned it up using this when we got home...)
We enjoyed an evening at the beach reveling in the fact that it was the last night in paradise!
When we returned to the room that evening our check-out paperwork was waiting for us. Since the resort was cashless this included our souvenir shop and picture purchases so we went down and squared this away early. Our checkout time was 11:15 with a pickup at 11:30 for the airport (I think. I didn't save that paper for some reason but those times seem to ring a bell.)
We woke up our last day a little early (around 7:45-8ish). We decided to embrace our final morning in the Bahamas and went for a swim first in the ocean, then in the pool before returning to our room to shower, pack, and get everything ready for our departure. When we were all ready and double checked we headed for a quick but delicious breakfast. We also snapped some resort pics on my cell phone (some were integrated into the TR) juuuust in case the memory card was destroyed. We took one last walk along Sandals beautiful boardwalks and headed back to the room to call bell services.
We hopped back on a Majestic Tours bus to take us to the Nassau airport and the bittersweet vacation farewell feeling took over. I think I actually cried. lol. Customs took a little longer on the way out than it had on the way in but it was all good. We got on our plane immediatly when it started boarding and our flight left 30 minutes early thanks to everyone being on board right away! SWEET! I heart Jet Blue!
My parents picked us up at JFK and we headed home to see our loveable pup and enjoy our newlywed life together. And I came back on the passporter boards a day or two later so that brings us full circle back to where we began.
I know I am a "talker" and you guys have heard my raves through the entire report but I do plan to write up a nice little wrap up post to end this report out. Its been about a year since I started this now! Can you believe it? Man does time fly!!!
In any case, this week is when I start to get busy-- open house on Tuesday and then my Masters classes for the semester start on Thursday. I am reallllly hoping to get back on here sometime this week or next week to post that up so bear with me!!! Its been amazing sharing with you and getting all your help, input, advice, and comments! xoxo

What a fun time with the sailboat... even with the loss of the camera, I'm glad you were able to see some humor in it! I think that would be a blast!
Yep, the first post to this thread was the day we came off the ship 11 months ago! I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. I should be sending you a PM sometime right about now(as, I remember, you requested) to tell you I would be starting our PTR for the new cruise, but, of course, that is not going to be, We will be doing something next year, though, and , in the meantime, I will have to live a few dreams through the experiences of my friends here at PP. Soo, I'm sad this is coming to an end.
But,.. I am sooo happy that your special day and the honeymoon were so perfect! I know you and Rob (and Liam, of course) will continue to have a wonderful life, and that will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Now, I can't wait for your wrap-up!

So sorry about the camera but glad that the wedding photographer was able to save your files. You and Rob are great and making what could have been a negative situation a great memory, love hearing you describe the sailing experience and laughing your way through the whole thing.
Your last day seemed magical but so did the whole trip...thinking back to the day you announced that Rob had popped the big question I cannot believe how fast time flew and that you are already planning your wrap up. I am so glad that you decided to share all this with us as it was beautiful and wonderful to see how everything came together to turn out wonderfully.
What a wonderful wrap up. Thanks for taking us along on your wonderful year! So glad that you were able to recover your photos and that the sailing incident made you both laugh. Good luck with you busy semester and being a newlywed. Many many blessings to you both!

So glad you had fun with the little mini sailing disaster. At least you could really look back and laugh being as you got your pictures back. But, take it from experience, even if you know you are right (with the sail) they have to learn by themselves sometimes. Men... I absolutely LOVE the picture frame in your bathroom. I want to do a beach theme in our new bathroom too. We spend a week in Ocean City NJ every year and I love that kind of decor.
Sorry it is over. I have really enjoyed tagging along for the whole ride. Looking forward to your last ramblings.
And...yes...we've got to get Crissy to come up and visit some time.
What a great last day! The sailing sounds like a lot of fun (minus flipping over and almost losing all of your pictures!). Looking forward to your final wrap-up.
Great wrap up Melissa! Loved all your photos! I feel you on wanting the professional ones - it took my a year and a half I think to get mine, maybe more like 2 years - idk - I do know that Ihad a baby before i got my wedding album. Anyway!!
The honeymoon looked like a great time and love the flipping story - glad the 2 of you could laugh about it.
Good Luck with school and your next adventures as a married couple!!!
