First Ever Disneyland Trip Updated 10/13 - Page 51 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The cold started early here in the south too. When an act of kindness is meant to be something tugs at you and you know it is the right thing to do. I really love those feelings . Everything is falling into place, the trip is going to get here before you know it!!!

My heart definitely felt a tug. Only two more sleeps!

We finally got some sunshine and warmer temperatures today.
What a difference a day makes! The sun has finally returned and the temperatures are more like our normal early October temperatures. Much easier to complete a four mile walk when the weather beckons us outdoors. My only problem was that I awoke this morning with an excruciating headache that did not want to go away. I took medicine and tried to sleep it off, but when it was still there at 12:30, we went ahead with our walk. Then we picked up tacos to celebrate National Taco Day. Around 2:30 I could take more medicine. A little while later I realized my headache was gone. So I began pulling clothes out for the trip and did a load of laundry. Otherwise, we’ve enjoyed a relaxing afternoon, watching NASCAR and Broncos football. Tomorrow the packing begins in earnest when Luke brings the suitcases in.
By the way, I’ve checked the weather on accuweather.com for the upteen time. Still supposed to be very hot Friday through Monday of our trip. In fact Saturday is described as “Hot with Blazing Sunshine.” Now doesn’t that sound inviting. The high the day of our walking tour is 94 degrees, but I’m hoping since it starts at 9:30 that it won’t be that hot that early in the day. We’ll see. We’ll return home to highs in the 70s. Kind of a weather roller coaster from last week until we’re back home.
Tomorrow’s To Do List [Monday] Walk four miles Clean the bathrooms Mani/Pedi at 11:30 Laundry – sheets, towels, and whatever is left Trash and recycling to the curb Packing
Looking ahead: Tuesday will start very early for us as my Orbit fitness band is already set for 3:45 AM CDT. Our flight out of Louisville is set to leave at 10:40 AM EDT. It takes about 2 hours for us to get there so we plan to leave around 5:00 our time, which is 6:00 in Louisville. That allows for time to run through a drive through for drinks for the trip and a restroom break if we need it. That should get us to Louisville between 7:30 and 8:00 their time. Plenty of time to get the car to parking, check our bags, head through security, and purchase breakfast.
All caught up with your PTR to DL and just in time before you leave. Hope you have a wonderful trip to California and DL, so sorry that the weather is going be so hot while you are here. Sadly we will miss the opportunity to have a PP meet at DL as we head to Aulani on Wednesday. We attended the Halloween Party last Friday night, and had a great time. Make sure you check out the Cadaver Dans on the Rivers of America, also check out the Disney Villains on Main Street USA at the train station, hopefully you will be able to see when they switch out the villains throughout the night. We enjoyed the treat trials at Village Haus and the Golden Horseshoe. If you like BBQ, you may want to check out Mickey's BBQ on one of your park days as it will be going away in January. After your first morning ride on Radiator Racers, if you want to go again with a short wait just hop into the single rider line. We have done that a few times and have been able to do 3 - 4 rides in a row in a short time period. We have also been known to ride Grizzly Rapids a few times in a row, for the reason that you mentioned being able to run back to the room and change out of wet clothes easily. Hope you love the Grand Californian as much as we do, if you have the time you may want to wander over to the Disneyland Hotel and check it out, many great photo opportunities. The Grand Californian also has a counter service restaurant, that has yummy nachos. They offer chicken, beef or you can get a combo of both. Have a wonderful trip, looking forward to reading your trip report and seeing your photos.
Sorry about the headache. I don't want to be the bringer of doom, but looking at your temperatures, which were similar to when we were in Disneyland, if it's anything like when we were there a few weeks ago, sadly it will be that hot early in the morning. We found that as soon as the sun came up, it got really hot, and that was way before the walking tours started. I hope it's different for you, but I'd rather prepare you for the worst....
I'm glad you finally ditched the headache and the weather was nice for your walk. Jeannie was telling me the super-hot weather is returning at the end of the week. I hope it turns out not to be true! 99 degrees doesn't exactly put you in the mood for pumpkin-flavored treats.
It's time!! Have a magical trip & a safe journey! And Happy Birthday to Luke! Looking forward to hearing all about it when you return...

Sorry about yesterday's headache; glad it eventually went away!
While it may be warm in the day, I think you'll find the temperatures drop pretty quickly as the sun goes down. So definitely plan for more dusk/evening hours touring, and maybe mid-day breaks.
Have a great trip!!!
Have a fantastic trip!! Here's hoping the weather isn't quite as bad as forecast. At least you are used to temps like that, although it can be a real drag on a vacation.
