Feelin’ Groovy: A Cam and Luke TR Completed 7/31 - Page 50 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Happy belated bithday to you and Happy belated Anniversary to you and Luke. What better way to celebrate than by getting good news about Luke. Still sending pixies that the debris goes away without incident.
I'm sorry about SM. I feel that way when we go on Star Tours. DH loves it, so I do it for him, but oh boy! Not a happy feeling during and for a while afterwards. I've taken to closing my eyes (which I know they say you shouldn't do) and it helps, but not sure how much longer that will work.
I've been closing my eyes on Star Tours for years now, otherwise I'd have to give that one up, too. But I love Star Wars, so I'll keep getting on as long as closing my eyes works.

KK is all over down home, but we don't have one here
That is just tragic that you all don't have a Krispy Kreme. Actually, we just got ours, and I was so excited because we loved going to the one in Nashville when we were visiting family. My DBiL would bring us a box up when he visited from Birmingham, too. He usually stopped at the one in Nashville so they'd be as fresh as possible. The warm one they gave me free yesterday was heavenly!

Happy belated Birthday and Anniversary!!
I love all your pictures of Downtown Disney! I can't wait to see it next May.
Luke and I keep marveling over all the places that have opened up since we got home. I can't wait to see it again, too.
Before I precede with this day, thanks for thinking of Luke. Today was the first morning in three weeks that he told me, "I feel much better." He still didn't sleep real well last night after he got up for the bathroom and aceteminophen, but he felt better. I was jumping up and down. Also here is the promised photo of the earrings I purchased at Uptown Jewelers in the Magic Kingdom earlier this day.
Day 9 Monday, May 16, 2016 Part 2
By this point in our day, I needed a break, so we headed back to Animal Kingdom Lodge --Kidani. Luke used another gift card to pay down on our room charges while I went to the room to get the dirty clothes to begin doing some more laundry. I got two loads going in the washers and then headed back to the room. While sitting on the bed, I heard a notice and glanced up at the sliding glass door. I realized it was rain pretty hard. So not only were we getting some needed rest, we were also avoiding a soaking in the park. The rain stopped in about 15 – 20 minutes. Soon after the rain stopped the Sunset Savanna came alive with animal activity and it looked like a beautiful day again.
I may have not seen many giraffes on our two safaris up to this point, but I was getting lots of time with them on the Sunset Savanna.
About an hour before our ADR time for The Wave at the Contemporary, we left the room to catch a bus to the Magic Kingdom. Once at the Magic Kingdom we had a short walk over to the Contemporary. The skies had become overcast so the walk was pleasant. Once inside we headed back along the left side of the lobby. We were a little early, but decided to go on inside to put our names in. I got a photo of Luke as he walked through the very modern entrance to the restaurant.
The CM told us we could have a seat in an interesting room complete with a semi-circular couch. But Luke headed off to the restrooms first which were just outside the restaurant entrance. Before we could even sit down in the lounge area, we were called to our table.
The Wave is a very classy restaurant befitting a resort like the Contemporary. This is the view of a portion of the restaurant from our table.
We both took our time looking over the menu as this was one place that I had not made a decision on before leaving home. Warning: no food porn as I did not pick the camera back up after taking the shot of the light fixture. Luke ended up with the Grilled Pork Chop served with Bacon-braised Rainbow Chard, seasonal fruit compote, and herb spaetzli. He was unimpressed with the sides that accompanied the pork chop, but also felt the chop was somewhat overcooked so a bit dry. He told me at the end of our dining that he should have picked something else. I ordered a Caesar salad for the two of us to share as an appetizer, and then my entrée was Grilled Beef Tenderloin which came with Green Beans, Yukon Mash with American accoutrement (whatever that means), crispy shallot, and a Vidalia onion glaze. My dish was very tasty, but even then it didn’t rank among my top five favorites for this trip. I overall impression of The Wave is that it has beautiful décor and styling, but the dinner dishes we ordered were just so so as far as taste and satisfaction.
One more shot of the restaurant entrance, this time capturing its name.
From The Wave, we took the elevator upstairs, checking out all the shops in the Contemporary. In the end, we made no purchases. But it was relaxing to just browse. While we were browsing the shops of the Contemporary, the rain returned. Luke checked the radar and we made the decision to skip Illuminations this night as the rain had set in according to the Accuweather app. It specifically stated rain for the next 99 minutes, which meant rain through around 9:30. A bit disappointed, but with one night still to make a showing of Illuminations, we caught the monorail at the Contemporary, rode to MK, and fortunately got immediately on a bus. Thank goodness I had packed the ponchos.
At AKL-K we picked up the last package delivered for us from the gift shop. I then packed more stuff because tomorrow was our last day in the parks. By 10:00, we were both snoozing.
Beautiful photos of the animals on the savanna! Sorry your dinner at The Wave was just so so. I recall having the pork chop as well but it came completely different sides, which is understandable since their menu changes with the season.

Thanks! If Luke had had different sides, similar to mine, I think he would have liked his much better.

Sorry the Wave food was only so-so. We've only done lunch there, and it was a few years ago. I never remember it's there. But they do (did) an awesome Reubin.
Sorry the rain settled in and no IllumiNations for you!
The number of animal shots you've gotten from your room is amazing!

So glad that Luke is feeling better! I loved your earrings that you purchased! So sorry to hear that your meal was just ok at The Wave. We eat there about every other trip that we take and usually have a great meal. The only thing I dislike about The Wave is the fact that there is no windows in the place. The room used to be the old Game Room for the Contemporary years ago before they switched everything around. It's too bad the rains moved in but hopefully you'll get one more chance to see Illuminations.
Sorry the wave was a bit disappointing but glad you got some time to just explore and enjoy the Contemporary! It's absolutely my favorite resort but unfortunately none of the restaurants there are my favorite (aside from the cupcakes at Contempo Cafe)!
Just getting caught up. Great pictures from Small World and Buzz Lightyear. Glad you got to see some giraffes out on the savanna after the rain. Sorry to hear dinner was just ok.
Hope you had a great birthday and a wonderful anniversary. Glad to hear that Luke is feeling much better!

We might have been better off doing lunch here. I couldn't complain at all about the animal activity outside our room.

You have certainly seen a lot of giraffes this trip! And to me, the fact that they're right outside your window is even better!
Absolutely! I love seeing giraffes out our balcony.

The Wave could definitely use some windows, but it does have very elegant decor.
