As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: The Kansas/Texas 2005 Rendezvous at Disney World
] Trip Date: 9/3/05 - 9/10/05
Resort: Port Orleans Riverside
Disney Freaks Involved: Me (Melanie/joyjoy), My BF (Alex), my 19 y.o. daugter (Jordie), Alex's 15 y.o. daughter (Kira)
Reason for trip: It is time.
******************************************
Greetings, Disney Die-Hards!
Thank you all so much for continuing to read my very, very slow trip report. I do love you, and my intentions are good, but man! Did YOU know that the Andrea Yates E! True Hollywood Story was on tonight? Me neither! Surely you can understand my tardiness now, right?
Okay, before I forget and I can't believe I forgot - we have to go back to last night. I know, sorry - sorry. But I forgot to tell you that after we ate at Boma we shopped at Zawadi Market Place. Shocked? Nahh, me neither. I'll keep it short and just let you know we only squandered away about 5 or 6 months of Kira's college fund in here, so she's still good. :whew: This has got to be the coolest of the resort gift shops, don't you think? Along with the regular Disney crap, they sell some really unusual crap! Like South African Wines, African musical instruments (which I'm sure the cast members LOVE hearing everyone try out all day and all night. bangbangbangbangbangbangbangCLANG!thumpthumpbangba ngCLANG! , and lots of authentic African clothing and masks.
My African Princess
Same princess, different mood
Thing One and Thing Two. Jordie's sticking her tongue out. Oh, the germs.
Okay, done! Let's move on to Sunday. We got up at the crack of dawn. Well. Not really. Dawn for us. I was up kinda early and started getting ready. Kira woke up and asked what time it was and I said "8:00." and she goes "God." and falls back into bed like I had poisoned her. Finally everyone was up and we walked out the door and I took a picture of our lovely resort and daughters.
This was just steps from our front door. (Front door? Only door.)
We started the long journey to the main building when Jordie utters those divine words everyone wants to hear when in Central Florida in the summer and it is already 90° at 9:00 a.m. ......... "Let's do the surry bike!". Omg. That's another one of those things that sounds like a good idea until you actually do it. If you are ever at a lake or beach or river and they are renting those fun looking paddleboats with the giant big wheels - trust me on this - do not do it. You will a)sweat like a hog, even though you're on a lake, b)get a divorce because "someone" won't be pedalling hard enough, c)drown a child or d)die of exhaustion. The surrey bikes are in this same line of sports and entertainment. Cute as all heck, see?
You are told when you board your torture vehicle to stay on the main path, no mowing down other guests and be back in 30 minutes. No problem! The loop around PO-R is really gorgeous. We looked at some of the other buildings in Magnolia Bend
Got a really nice view of the river and Sassagoula Steamboat Co. (main bldg)
But the best part? The bell. Oh, yeah. If you were in the driver's seat you could clang the hell out of that thing and scare people. So there we are, clanging and pedalling and having a good old time, until we realized it was hot as Hades and we were kind of dying. But hey. One loop around and we'd only used up fifteen minutes. One more time! Only FASTER this time. We whizzzzzed down the path, careening out of control! We took turns on two wheels! We were burnin' rubber, layin' a scratch, haulin' some surrey butt around that resort! Wheeeeeeeee! CLANG! CLANG! Move it, slowpokes! CLANG! So much fun. I was riding in the back at one point and uh, taking a little pedalling break if you know what I mean, and we passed a couple and I heard the man say "There's always one that won't pedal." Anyway, after we had all had 2 or 3 heatstrokes, we took the surrey back. On the way, we started talking about how far the loop was. Remember, we did it twice. I guessed a mile, Kira said 1/2 mile. Alex said his legs felt like he had run a mile, so it must be at least 2 miles. (Man Logic) But really, we had no idea. So, when we turned it in we asked the lady working there and she said in her very heavy Hispanic accent "Seven mile." OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! Are you KIDDING me??! We had just ridden a bike FOURTEEN FREAKIN' MILES through the Amazon Rain Forest??? Wow, we are tough. We were totally loving ourselves. Feeling a little Lance-ish, we were. It was the Tour de Quiete Pooles et Launderette' Facilites'. We were awesome.
Or else we're stupid. On the way to the buses, we stopped at the front desk and got a resort map so we'd have a memento of our Incredible 30 Minutes of Fame and looked at the mileage thingy and...... not seven miles, you idiots, POINT SEVEN MILES. As in, .7 miles. That's right, twice around was barely over a mile. Apparently the bike lady misunderstood that little nugget of info at orientation. Lance Armstrong. Riiiiiiiiiiiight.
Off to Epcot, our very favorite Disney Park!
I love the music that plays at the front of the park. It's so .... Epcot. Wow, I can kind of hear it in my mind right now. Wierd. Oh, wait, that's Live365 Radio. Sorry. Anyway, the first thing we did was haul it quick over to The Land to get fastpasses for Soarin'. I'd read so much about this and gotten first hand reviews that I was dying to do it. Holy Sunshine Seasons Fair! This place was PACKED. Apparently everyone had the same idea. The stand-by line was already 90 minutes long and it was barely after 10:00 a.m. Man! So we grab the fastpasses and I make everybody get in line for Living With the Land. Okay, okay. I know you all think this is boring, but it's my very own Carousel of Progress. Know what I mean? Boring to you = classic to me. I gave Alex the camera so fortunately we got some really great pics in here. Want to see? Email me.
Just kidding. Here they are:
Thank God for the sign, right?
Okay, I have about 10 more but I can feel you dozing off so I'll spare you. I love this attraction. FastPasses are up! Yay!
Soarin' is amazing. Wow, they really did this one right. The pre-show is terrific, too, what with Elaine's boyfriend and all, but the ride is spectacular. We were on Row Two, so those dangling feet above us were slightly distracting, but I just pretended they were birds. With shoes on. If you have any qualms about Soarin' and motion sickness, let me ease your mind. Jordie gets sick in the car. Jordie gets sick on the bus. Jordie gets sick on the boat to MGM. Jordie gets sick on friggin' It's a Small World. The girl gets sick watching tv sometimes. So I was worried about her and she was very nervous. But it was fine! She said she did get a little bit shaky on some of the swooping over the mountain scenes, but the rest was great and she was able to enjoy it. I LOVE the part where you fly over the surfers. Everyone on our row raised their feet! This is sooo much fun. After Soarin' we had lunch at the new, improved, vastly more expensive food court in The Land. Hey, what do we care, we're eating for FREEEEEEE!!!! Alex and I each got the cuban (veggie) sandwich and Jordie and Kira split some kind of sweet and sour chicken something or other. They got a TON of food. I think this was one that came with a side, plus dessert and drink. No, I remember! The plate they got had TWO entrees, PLUS a side, plus dessert and a drink. So they each got something different. That was a good deal to split on the Dining Plan. Our sandwiches came with chips, a drink and dessert. We all gave this place a 9. The new seating area is much nicer than before, IMO. Check out was, as usual, a moment of anxiety for me. I was AGAIN shocked at how they rang us up and sent us on our way without so much as a citation for shoplifting or something. I could not believe how easy this dining plan was.
After that we had to shop. Jordie forgot her sunglasses, so in an odd twist of events she took MINE which I had actually taken from HER the morning we left. So, she swiped back the sunglasses I swiped from her. I needed sunglasses. On our way to Mousegears (aka Home of the $40 Talking Stitch circa 2002) we came across some kooky band playing 80s/Techno music. Surreal. Not a big crowd because they were standing in the blazing heat with no shade. They did have a groupie though. Please tell me if you saw this woman when you were last in Epcot, because I think she was a plant. Not a plant like in Living With The Land, a plant like Disney pays her to be there. I say this because we saw her AGAIN watching this same lame band 3 days later, wearing the SAME outfit. Pink and white shorts with a pink ribbon for a belt, a pink polo shirt with the collar turned up, hair all big and up on her head, tied with a pink ribbon, pink socks and............ pink high top Reeboks. Either she just came from a jazzercise class or she really does love the 80s. She had a camera (instamatic, I believe) and was just all over those guys. Fan or Freak? You be the judge. The lead singer dragged Kira out of the "audience" (us, Pink Lady, custodian) and she was mortified, of course.
I yelled at her to do the Axl Rose crab walk but she ignored me. I wonder why.
The crowds were pretty big, for Epcot. Keep in mind this was the Sunday before Labor Day, so we expected this. The last time we went at this time of year we made the mistake of going to Magic Kingdom during the weekend and the crowds were insane. We figured Epcot today and maybe MGM tomorrow and we'd be good. Anyhoo, after hitting 64 MILES PER HOUR on Test Track (I have never seen anything but 64 mph on this ride. Ever. After 7 years, I think I'm on to 'em.), we made our way back to Off Kilter-Case. Whoops, I mean World Showcase.
******************************
::yawn:: I'm sorry, guys. Andrea Yates really threw me off schedule and I need to go to bed now. I PROMISE I'll finish this day's report very soon, like tomorrow. Wait till you see all my Off-Kilter Stalker Pics.
Thanks for reading!

Re: The Kansas/Texas 2005 Rendezvous at Disney World
Thanks for a great update and a great report so far! That was too funny about the surrey bike thing. I was trying to figure out in my head--how fast were they going if they went 7 miles in 15 minutes?! Looking forward to reading more! I think the 80's lady was a plant. Too funny! I hope I can catch them someday as I'm an 80's junkie just as much as I'm a Disney junkie!

As for surrey bikes, they should have heatlh warnings all over them, kind of like Mission Space. You had me super impressed at the thought of 14 miles in 30 minutes! We contemplated getting off of ours and pushing it up a hill when we rented one . You are correct in calling it a "torture vehicle"!

That's kinda freaky about the pink jazzercise lady. Where'd she get the cool Reeboks? I plan on checking out giant pumpkins at LwtBL for the first time in January. I don't think we've ever even been to The Land! I agree that Zawadi MP is the best store. Thanks for the update!

You're report is HILARIOUS!!!!! The part about the Stitch hands is SO true... I bought so much crap at Disney that I shouldn't have, and now I don't know what to do with it! Both of the girls are so pretty, and it's awesome that they get along so well! I'm definitely looking forward to more... you crack me up!
