Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

. . . were there no pics of the adults in pirate garb?

[/ QUOTE ]

DH did wear Matt's Mickey pirate ears for awhile & I wore the pirate bandana they gave us at dinner on my head, but we only took pictures of the kids. I tend to try to avoid the camera.

Re: Our 14 day Cruise on the Magic *Day 4 & 5 added*

Day 12, 8/31/05 Wednesday

Today was another beautiful day at sea. We went to Topsider’s for breakfast then my Mom took Ryan to the pool, while Tim, Matt & I went to another “Disney Behind the Scenes Presentation” with Don “Ducky” Williams. He talked more about his career as an illustrator with Disney. He really loves his job & puts in lots of hours. He’s loves to collect Disney stuff too & said his house is full of memorabilia. He joked Disney should just pay him in Disney memorabilia since that’s where most of his money goes anyway.

After the presentation we went up to deck 9 & spent the day hanging around the pool. We went over to the Goofy pool at 1pm for the “Caribbean Beach Party.” They had music & games for the kids. Matt spent some time in the Lab. He went to Stormin’ the Lab & the Nintendo GameCube & PS2 challenge.

At 2:30pm my Mom took the boys back to the room & Tim & I went to Rockin’ Bar D for “Captain’s Corner.” Captain Tom & members of his senior staff did a little adults only question & answer session. He assured us we did not hit the side of the locks going through the Panama Canal, & told us we only get a few feet per gallon of gas. It was an interesting presentation.

After that we went to the room to get ready for dinner. On the way we stopped in the atrium & Matt got his picture with Mulan & Mushu.

Matt, Mulan & Mushu

We had dinner in Lumiere’s tonight, & enjoyed the “Master Chef” dining menu. After dinner Matt went to the Lab. They were taking the kids to the Buena Vista Theatre to see “Sky High” & then back to the Lab to hang out. Tim, Ryan, my Mom, & I went to the Walt Disney Theatre to see tonight’s show, Mark Curry from the TV show “Hanging with Mr. Cooper” & the Muppets. It was a cute show. Ryan loves Kermit the Frog so he enjoyed it. After the show my Mom took Ryan to her room & Tim & I did some shopping then went back to the Walt Disney Theatre for the crew talent show. This show was one of the highlights of the cruise! Crew members performed different talents for us, & I don’t only mean the one’s that are normally performers. We had members of housekeeping & maintenance singing, dancing & reciting poetry they wrote. It was a packed theatre & many of them had never performed before. They were great. It was an adult’s only show, & at the end the cruise staff, including the cruise director Rachel, did a little skit that was hilarious, but definitely not for kids!

After the show we picked up Ryan from my Mom’s room & went to our room to wait for Matt & get some sleep.

Re: Our 14 day Cruise on the Magic *Day 4 & 5 added*

Day 13, 9/1/05 Thursday

We were scheduled for character breakfast at 8:15am this morning. It’s held in Parrot Cay so the theme is tropical. They serve a sit down breakfast & Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto; Chip & Dale come around to visit. Ryan spent the entire breakfast saying “don’t let them come by me!” “I don’t like them!” Our servers were great though & headed off most of the characters before they got to the table & told them just to go by Matt & not Ryan. So again we have character pictures with no Ryan.

Matt, Tim, & I with Mickey

After breakfast Matt went to Stormin’ the Lab & to hang in the Stack, while the rest of us went to the pool. We spent our last day at sea lounging by the pool & swimming. We went back to the room at about 2:30 Tim, Ryan & I got ready for dinner & Matt went to the Lab for more Stormin’ the Lab & then rehearsal for “D Sea U” graduation.

At 5pm in the Walt Disney Theatre all the kids who have participated in the kid’s programming participated in a special graduation ceremony “Celebrate the Journey”. They each received a t-shirt & graduation caps with Mickey ears. While all the kids were up on stage they showed pictures of them from the last 2 weeks participating in different activities. Mickey & Minnie joined the kids on stage. Mickey had all the kids turn their tassels & they became official “D Sea U” graduates.

The “D Sea U” logo

All the kids on stage with Mickey

After the graduation we went to dinner. Tonight we were in Animator’s Palate & were served the “Captain’s Gala” dining menu. After dinner Matt went back to the Lab to make a volcano, attend another pool & pizza party at the Mickey pool, & have more fun Stormin’ the Lab. Tim, Ryan & I had our picture taken with Captain Tom then went to tonight’s show.

Tim, Ryan & I with Captain Tom

Tonight’s show in the Walt Disney Theatre was “Disney Dreams.” It is a great show. Peter Pan helps a little girl, Ann Marie; learn that with faith, trust, & pixie dust, dreams can come true, while Disney stories come to life on stage. It’s one of those shows that can definitely bring tears to your eyes.
Before the show Ryan took a picture with his friend Ian from the Cruise staff

After the show we did a little shopping & enjoyed walking around the ship, before heading back to the room to wait for Matt & get some rest.

Re: Our 14 day Cruise on the Magic *Day 4 & 5 added*

Day 14, 9/2/05 Friday

We received a wake up call from Mickey at 6am. Today was Castaway Cay day! All ashore time was scheduled for 8:15am & we wanted to get to the beach early. Castaway Cay is definitely paradise. They have white sand, clear water, great food, lots of activities & that Disney touch!

Approaching Castaway Cay from our veranda

We went up to Topsiders for a quick breakfast, then down to deck 1 to disembark. They were passing out cookies, hot pretzels, & juice as we disembarked. We grabbed towels & headed to the family beach.

Welcome Back!

After you disembark you can walk to the family beach or take a tram. We decided to take the 10 minute walk to the beach. We grabbed chairs & an umbrella & headed for the water. The water is crystal clear & you can see fish swimming around you & the water was very warm.

Matt & Ryan enjoying the water

Matt building a sand castle

The sky was a little dark & around 10am it started to lightning. The life guards told us we had to get out of the water, leave the beach & take cover. Everyone headed up to the covered seating by Pop’s Props, where lunch is served. It probably rained for close to an hour, so everyone just hung out under the cover. It finally cleared up & the life guards announced we could return to the beach. We swam until noon then went back to Pop’s for lunch. They serve burgers, chicken, lobster burgers, chips, salads, & deserts. The food is really good. After lunch we went back to the beach for awhile then over to Marge’s Barges. Tim, Matt & I were scheduled to parasail at 1:30pm. Tim & I did it on our last cruise but this was the 1st time Matt was big enough to go. On the way there we took some pictures.

Mount Rustmore

Fresh Catch

We met our parasailing group & were given instructions. Ryan decided he was not going to be content to wait on the dock & kept insisting he could parasail too. I explained to him he was not big enough but he was insistent, maybe I should have told him Mickey was going to be on the boat! I finally convinced my Mom to take him back to the family beach & we boarded the boat. We cruised out past the Magic, but before anyone could go up, our guide told us the wind conditions were not good & it was too risky for them to send us up. We were really disappointed! Parasailing just depends on the wind conditions at the time of your excursion. The people before us got off with no problem. I guess it’s a good excuse to book another cruise though. With our excursion cancelled we went back to the family beach. Ryan had fallen sound asleep on a chair, so Tim & I relaxed with him while Matt swam. All too soon it was time to get back onboard the Magic for our last night. Matt did get a chance for a picture with one of his favorite characters, Timon, before we got back on board.

Matt & Timon

We had dinner tonight in Parrot Cay & had the “Till We Meet Again” dining menu.

Our servers Glendene from Trinidad & Joy from India with Matt & Ryan

After dinner Matt went back to the Lab for a last night of fun. We did our last minute packing & put everything except our carry on for morning outside the stateroom to be collected, and then Tim, Ryan, my Mom & I went to the Walt Disney Theatre for “Remember the Magic a Final Farewell.” Comics Gary DeLena & Rich Purpra performed & there were musical numbers by the main stage performers too. It was a great show, but it made me so sad that this was our last night.

At 10:15pm we went to the atrium for “Till We Meet Again.” It’s kind of an informal last meet & greet with the characters. The characters all roam around the atrium on deck 3 & a few come up to deck 4. We stayed on deck 4 & looked down on the atrium since 2 weeks on the ship had not broken Ryan of his character phobia. After the farewell we took a last walk around the ship & made a couple last minute purchases at the store. Matt came back from the Lab at midnight & we all went to sleep.

Mickey!

I'm just getting caught up. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I know how hard it was to get off the ship after only 3 days. I can't imagine how you must feel after 2 weeks! DH and I got attached to our server, too. It's been a wonderful report. Thanks so much for sharing!
