Major pixies needed please [updated 4/3, post #306] - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'd go in. That way you'll get to speak right to the doctor and know what's going on. I went through this with my mom when she broke one hip and then broke the other a year later. The staff was much better at answering question in person.
More pixies that everything works out.
Liz
Darlene - I'm sending many pixies. I hope his surgery went well, and he's in recovery by now.
Take time and focus on Lenny, Abby and yourself.

Hoping you made it to see Lenny and that a positive update will be in our near future. Hoping all is stable and that Abby is handling the stress of Dad having surgery in stride. Many many pixies for each of you!

Just saw this post. So sorry this happened. I'm glad he finally had the surgery yesterday. I hope you made it in to see him and was able to talk to the surgeon. Many prayers for the days ahead.
Lenny is still in the hospital and he's suppose to be on his way to a rehab hospital. I still have yet to hear from a doctor about what was done but Lenny said he's been able to talk to him. He had a clean break in his femur and a plate and nails were used to fix it. He's got an incision from his knee to his hip and as expected his leg is weak right now but he's doing PT. The hospital staff is going from really good to really terrible - he's asked for pain patches which are part of his prescription regimen but he's been ignored. He's on a diabetes medicine that he hasn't been given at all, they switched him over to Insulin instead which is not managing anything (his numbers went from 77 to almost 250 - and that was with a diabetic meal plan too). He can't stay on his back too long due to pain but he can't roll over on his own and when he asks for help, they make him wait - and I don't mean just a couple of minutes. Yesterday it was something like 30 minutes. A couple of times he's buzzed the nurses, the light didn't get turned off so he could buzz them again. He had a couple of nurses were IMO outright rude to him - to busy talking to themselves to listen to Lenny's needs - so he ended up being rude back and a Doctor showed up to reprimand Lenny on his attitude. Funny thing they have a thing on the wall of tv that says "we are here for your care and comfort" and Lenny doesn't feel he's gotten any care from the younger people and he's certainly not comfortable. Unfortunately we think he's stuck there until Monday even though the Doctor said this morning "we're getting you out of here sooner, not later."
I'll continue to keep you updated though. I'm getting ready to go back and see him again.

I am a diabetic who is not insuin dependent but every time I have been in the hospital, I am treated with insulin. I am told it is so they can have better control of your blood sugar and add insulin as needed.
I am sorry Lenny doesn't feel he is getting the nursing attention he deserves. During one of my hospitalizations, I was very upset with the nurses for not responding. A few years later my DDin law Explained to me that the nurses were busy with a code and my needs had to wait.
If Lenny is in pain he needs to speak up. Also last year Massachusetts made a new law which makes it much harder to prescribe opiates. This may sound cruel but I have had at leasty 3 clients die of opiod overdose so agree we need to get the situation under control.
I hope he will be nearer to home in rehab. He may also be feeling a little loney and probably pretty bored.
Poor Lenny! and poor Darlene, too. I'm glad the surgery went well. I'm sure the pain is clouding everything right now. Let's hope that subsides soon and he gets to rehab soon, too. Make sure you get a little time for yourself if you can. We're here if you need to vent.
I am so sorry Lenny is experiencing these issues. My mother was in the healthcare field for 51 years and she has seen her fair share. Remember that if he is unsatisfied he ca always address his concerns to the patient advocate who is generally a floor/nursing supervisor. This may be the best option for him. I also pray the rehab is closer to you so that you can visit more where you can speak to the physicians/care givers so you are kept more in the loop. I know you are frustrated as is Lenny. Please try and stay positive and remember, the squeaky wheel gets the oil." Funny but my other just told her sister that again on the phone yesterday as she too is not thrilled with her care at the rehab center she is in. Many pixies & prayers for both of you.

Oh Darlene, I'm just seeing this. How awful. When my grandmother fell a couple years ago on a Tuesday, she was transferred to Tufts and didn't have surgery until Friday. She never walked again after that. How terrible. Two pieces of advice: either you or he should call the nurse manager on the floor. If that doesn't work, call the patient advocate. Second, and potentially more important, Lenny should sign something that states doctors and nurses can release info to you, especially since he has so many health problems. Steve actually signed a POA and health care proxy (everyone should have one, my grandmother didn't and she got dementia, it got hairy) so I can talk to the doctors and nurses and get info.
I hope Lenny has a quick recovery.

We don't have a POA - my SiL asked me yesterday if we had one, we're thinking of doing it now - but I can't tell you how many times I've signed the Health Care Proxy form so doctors and nurses usually do talk to me but it's more a matter of being in a time and place where the two of us can talk. This all happened Tuesday. Both Wednesday and Friday I had to work both jobs so I was unable to call during normal business hours because I'm just not comfortable using the very public work phone where everyone can hear my end of the conversation to make that kind of call and Thursday they didn't finish Lenny's surgery until something like 4:30 and he told me there were at least 3 more patients that needed surgery after him. Chances are the doctor was in the OR until late that night.
As for the nurse manager, I think Lenny did talk to one because he said all the nurses have been nice to him today and they don't run away before asking if he needed anything else. Of course in the three or so hours I spent with him today, I only saw a nurse twice but he wasn't in need of anything either so he wasn't paging them.
One thing I learned during my long and later multiple hospital stays, which was very difficult while I was actually first in the hospital ( I attribute this to lack of oxygen to my brain-I was in cardiogenic shock for well over a month).
Nurses are first and foremost health care providers. They are paid to make sure everyone's health is cared for, individuals' other needs and comfort comes second to making sure all the patients are in stable condition and getting the treatment they need. When you are uncomfotable and need help moving, it is hard to remember your nurse may be making sure the person in the next room gets treatment to address the fact that he is becoming unstable, not sitting around having coffee and chatting about her weekend plans.
Nurses work hard and put up with a lot. In the end most of them do it becuase they love it and cannot imagine doing anything else.
I hope Lenny is mobil enough soon that he doesn't need so much help and if he thinks getting to rehab will be better he gets there as soon as possible (I was in a rehab/latac and it was an absolutely horrible experience).
Also, ask the floor staff if they know when Lenny's doctor may be on the floor and to let him know you are looking for him.

I understand that but they are already in Lenny's room when he asks for help to turn over so IMO it's not right to make him wait.
