From no trip to celebrating 20 years together… planning it all in less than 100 days! COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM 7/24 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Always an awesome sight to see any Disney ship once you come over that bridge! And sounds like a wonderful way to start off your cruise with a good swim - but odd with the delay and the coast guard following along.
The Neverland Dream ship! So cool! They really need to change up the menus more. I understand it's probably easier to just keep the same thing going in their somewhat limited kitchen, but variety is the spice of life!
Oh boy. We had bad pitching like that for one full evening and night on our cruise. And yep, our cabinets and doors kept opening too! To the point of being scary! Great time alone in the spa! You can see the trees all slanted in the breeze, that's some strong wind.

Nice to have all that time alone in the Rainforest, but too bad the upgrades weren't the full Dream/Fantasy package.
It was a shame, but in all honesty, not having read anything about what they'd done to it, I was pleasantly surprised by all the changes they had managed to make in a relatively short period of time.

Isn't it just?

I suspect they probably do that all the time now.

Oh completely!

You'd think Disney would've come up with a way to deal with that. I mean, you're on a ship. Heck, pitching on occasions sadly comes with the territory....

Too bad about all the pitching of the ship which was not obviously a good experience, when trying to get a good nights sleep! It's funny that you mention the tuna and your bad experiences with it. I've ordered so much fish over the years when dining out and quite often it's been tuna that wasn't to my liking and usually over done, which is not good!
Which port are you coning into now....Nassau? Glad you're getting some good spa time in!

Mark doesn't like cooking tuna, as he says it's so hard to get right, but whenever he's done it, he usually gets it spot on.

Monday 6 March – part two: a warning from Captain Gus….
When I got back to the room, Mark was up, and showed me a fire in the distance, which of course I had to get some photos of…
We decided it was time to brave breakfast, and by the looks of it, about half the ship had had the same idea too. They’ve installed these at the entrance to Cabana’s…
We had really mixed feelings about these. For starters, it ends up with a line just to get to them, and frankly, watching people at them, it’s clear a lot of people don’t know how to clean their hands properly. Also, it’s difficult to spend as long washing your hands as you need, when you know there are other people waiting. I can see why Disney have done it, but I’m not convinced it works.
We headed into the new look Cabana’s…
… and wow, their food selection was amazing, especially for a non-meat eater like me!
I was almost spoilt for choice, and that never usually happens. Way to go Disney on really stepping up and coming up with some more innovative breakfast choices!
We headed out on to deck, as it was packed inside, and grabbed a couple of cups of tea (using our own teabags of course ) and settled down to enjoy our food. Thankfully in this area, it wasn’t too windy, as you were nicely sheltered from the worst of the wind.
When we were done, we braved a stroll along deck 10, getting some shots of Nassau…
… and this amazing yacht!
Yep, that’s the pool on it!
We made our way back down to deck nine, and heard Captain Gus’ announcement, apologising for the weather last night (and so he should… joking! ), but the bad news was the wind would keep up for much of today, and from what we could gather, into this evening. Ugh – another fun night by the sounds of it. Apparently we were dealing with 12 foot waves, yep, that might account for the moving from side to side then…
He went on to say that the Magic had managed to dock today at Castaway Cay in 35 mph winds, and we were scheduled to have roughly the same strength of wind tomorrow. The way he said it, he made it clear there was a possibility we might not be able to dock at Castaway Cay, as he urged people who wanted to have a day on the beach to head out today on a shore excursion. I know Castaway Cay is the port that most often gets missed in bad weather, so I was not surprised by that, but given how many first timers we’ve seen on board (we think they make up the majority of cruisers on this cruise), I suspect if we don’t manage to dock at Castaway Cay, the crew will hear all about that from some very unhappy passengers…
We headed back to the room, and had some down time, so I could catch up on the trip report, and we ended up watching Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Well, Mark watched, and I listened to it. There are some really good one liners in it, and it’s amazing to think how old this movie is now. We both talked about how when Honey, I Shrunk the Audience opened at Epcot, it was the big thing to see, and now of course, that’s gone the way of so many Disney rides, but just about anything they put in there is a walk-on….
After a while, we decided to go for a wander and explore the ship. I have to say I was disappointed with how much was closed, and how few activities there were on board. I know there are a lot of first timers on board, and therefore you can expect them to go ashore, but I would have hoped for more for those of us who decided to stay put.
We headed down to deck three, where we found these magnificent portraits. I can’t remember if it was the Wonder that had them previously, or another ship.
Been there, done that – cruised out of Venice on the Magic
… and going to be doing this one, when we take the Magic to New York City next September!
Sounds like a nice morning! The breakfast choices looked yummy!
Honey, I shrunk the kids was one of our favorites when our kids were small. You're right about the funny one liners!
Oh my goodness, Honey I Shrink the Kids was so cool!!. We loved Honey I Shrunk the Audience as well and have great memories of that attraction!! Your breakfast looks yummy and I'm glad you had so much to choose from!!

I think it was a really fun attraction at the time, if that makes sense? I'm not sure it would work today. Mind you, it would be nice to see something new going in there, as I'm sure with today's technology, they could do so much.
