Mema and Papa are doing WHAT? PTR - UPDATED 8/15 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great jobs on all the clothes and getting everything organized for Papa!
thanks, I want to keep the moving parts to a minimum for him. He's already sweating the three days without me here at home, specifically Saturday. I told him DGD loves to weed the garden so use her there!

Did you remember the bathing suits for the kids?
Thanks for joining in! Right now, DGD is swimming competitively, so once that is done for the year, Mom is bringing over the swim gear. She uses her 'regular' suit to alternate for practice. DGS swims at the pool while she practices.

Thanks! I wanted them to really have a grand time! they were so disappointed they weren't getting to go on the Disney Fantasy. It's not missing Mom and Dad, it was all about missing the cruise! I told them we would do fun things this week. They just don't know how fun!
Well, of COURSE you know that Papa’s surprise question led to MORE CHANGES. Once I booked the Safari Spectacular, I just walked away from it all for a while. I needed to be able to sit down and really look at what we had and what we were planning. Things were too hectic at work and home I decided to give it some time to percolate.
In the meantime, in order to find out what the littles might like as far as rides go, I told them about some friends of mine who were going to take their kids to WDW. They just didn’t know what the kids would like to ride. Since the two of them have been to WDW, what did they think my friend’s children might like? They were SOOO HELPFUL!
I found out DGD didn’t like BTMRR…too jerky…but liked Goofy’s rollercoaster. They liked Haunted Mansion and Pirates. They didn’t remember Jungle Cruise. DGD liked Ariel, DGS was less than enthusiastic about that one. Given it’s been a couple of years, they have never been on 7DMT, so that will be a for sure pick! Moving over to Epcot, they were a little less sure. Spaceship Earth was one they remembered…”the giant golfball ride.” They remember Test Track and opined that the other children will like that just fine. Neither remembered Soarin’ and I can’t remember if they rode it. Over in DHS DGD was adamant she did NOT like Star Tours. Both thought TSMM was a lot of fun. They both seemed hesitant of ToT, which I’d REALLY like to take them on. I may get FP+ and see how it goes. If they truly don’t want to ride, Papa and I will use rider switch. They remembered they liked ‘the cars’ and I had to tell them it was gone. DGS said in no uncertain terms he liked Star Tours and if one of the kids was a boy he would like it too! I’m thinking Star Tours will definitely have to be a FP+! Perhaps DGD and I will do something else while the boys ride.
So, I’m armed with some wants and desires as well as a few…umm, maybe nots. It’s been a few years so we might try a few of those again.
This past Wednesday, Papa had to take a trip to the left coast to San Diego for ComiCon. I KNOW! He SAYS it’s for work and he SAYS he doesn’t really want to go…
I decided to stay at home these few days as it has been extremely stressful at work since our return from Aulani that I can barely remember that trip, only a short two months ago. Our FP+ is fast approaching (the 27th) and I was going to have to FINALLY sit down and get the park plans in place. So yesterday, I did just that. I began to map everything out and found…our dining plans were messing everything up. Back to the drawing board.
I began at the beginning. Sunday the 25th would remain pretty much the same as we planned. I would meet them at Bay Lake towers probably between 1 and 2 PM. Hopefully, we will already be in the villa. Since I will be there in a studio for a few days ahead, I’m hoping I can check out and in right away. Pool time is on the schedule, then clean up and catch the monorail to MK, down the ramp and onto a boat to Wilderness Lodge for dinner at Whispering Canyon Café. After dinner, wandering back to the boat launch and back to MK. I hope to go to Guest Services either before or after dinner to get Papa’s annual pass and the littles tickets. Since they are DVC special tickets, we have to present our member cards. Then a leisurely walk back to BLT, and off to dream land
Monday:
Magic Kingdom/Epcot/DHS
Try to make rope drop at MK
Into park, Mickey’s M&G, Castle Photo with our shirts, then head for Buzz, maybe Laugh Factory…then head out for monorail to Epcot.
Epcot—FP+
Soarin’ or Test Track (undecided)
Spaceship Earth
Character Spot
Try for fourth FP+ later that afternoon for whichever one we didn’t get that morning.
Dinner: Minnie’s Seasonal Dine, DHS
I tried to flip flop today and Wednesday, but it wasn’t working and plans call for DHS on Wednesday. It’s just a boat ride and we will have on the Mema/Papa shirts so we can get pictures in three parks with them! Win-win!
After dinner, hoping the Star Wars Spectacular will be shown, then back to the room and
Tuesday:
Blizzard Beach Day!
Hope to be there by open, spend a few hours floating and swimming, floating and swimming…leave around 2 and head back to BL. Showers, snack, rest a bit, then at 5:30 head down to a bus to AK for dinner and Safari Spectacular.
Dinner: Tusker House 7 PM…new to us
Safari Spectacular—9:30-Midnight. We will see how long we last!
Wednesday:
Hollywood Studios/Epcot
Hoping everyone is up and moving quickly this morning as I’m hoping to get us to DHS in time for the littles to sign up for Jedi training! Might be a little difficult with our late night the night before.
FP+
TSMM
Star Tours
ToT?
The Launch Bay is a must to see Kylo Ren and Chewie!! Then to a boat over to Epcot for dinner,
Dinner: Garden Grill, 4:45
It’s pretty early, but I think we will have a couple of worn out littles (not to mention Mema and Papa) by this point. We might check for a FP on our way out to the monorail. Early to bed.
Thursday
Magic Kingdom
Try to make rope drop if we didn’t the first day. I want the littles to see the opening show. We’ve never made it on any of our other trips with them because we could not get 8-10 people headed in the same direction at the same time! It’s like wrangling kittens!
FP+
7DMT
Buzz
Dumbo ?
We will wander around and see what kind of mischief we can get into, Monster’s Inc., Philharmagic, the Carousel! I will get to ride the Carousel! Papa is not a fan but I bet I have a couple of littles that will want to ride!
Probably have lunch at CHH, or maybe Casey’s then head back for a rest because tonight is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!
Dinner: Liberty Tree Tavern, 4:45.
Then it’s Party Time!
Friday
Magic Kingdom
Today is our last day. Our flight is at 5:25, so we figure Tragical Express will pick us up at around 2. But we have until then to make memories!
Up, pack what I didn’t pack the day before during ‘rest time’ (no rest for Mamas and Memas on Disney trips!), check bags in for our flight and get boarding passes (hopefully Papa will have remembered to check us in the day before) then check our carry-ons and head over to the park for one last time. Not trying to make rope drop today.
FP+
POTC
HM
Peter Pan
Lunch: Skipper Canteen 11:45
One of the last things I want to do is IASWAA…I want the littles to see their names at the end. I want a picture of those names for the last page of their scrapbook I’m planning of our trip.
After our ride we will head slowly to the front, maybe a photo here or there. With our Gold AP, we get all of the photos included, so there will be lots! I’m taking my point and shoot on this trip, not my big camera as I want to shove it down into my bag and not worry about it. Or Papa shove it into his pocket.
We will make our way back to BLT and our date with the Tragical Express. Off to the airport, fly back to DC, hop the metro and back to the Pentagon and the car. Hopefully, we will have everyone back in bed by 9 or 9:30.
So, there it is. Our final plan, I hope. Wednesday is our FP+ day, wish me luck! I’ve never done FP+ for anyone other than just Papa and I. This should be interesting!

Wow...I said it before these are some brave Mema & Papa. Great sleuthing! Looks like things are really coming together. Hope things are a little less stressful for you now.
Nice plans and good luck with the Fastpass+ ressies!

All the plans look great! Now and for getting your FP+. I get to make mine for the family portion of the trip on August 2, and I haven't pinned anything down with family yet. So I'd better get busy.
thanks! I realized I forgot the Jungle Cruise, but might take chance we won't need one.

Thanks! If it were the younger two I wouldn't do it, but DGD and DGS1 are old enough, I think we will be ok.

Thanks! I love the shirts! Those dining plans were more of a struggle than usual! Trying to balance parks and FP+ and getting more kid-friendly meals.

Thanks! Good luck getting your plans together! I'm trying to get ADR wants from the other son and wife for our January trip...ADR day is Monday!
Oh my goodness! I went onto MDE for my personal trip and found I could make all my FP+ for our whole trip! So FP+ are booked, I guess I will have to write up the final bit, though I'm still waiting for Disney to release a little information regarding some of the shows...like the Star Wars fireworks at DHS are still not showing up! but this certainly makes me relax a little bit that the fp+ are taken care of!
