Eating My Words PTR: Two Foodies Cancel 2016 Trip (10/7/16) - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Glad I'm your winner and hope Disney gets smart one day and upgrades their ADR system as well as everything else on their website! But that would make sense! Hope you have some luck with the adrs and get what you want!

PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Wow If I would have remembered I would never have won bc I was way way off. Truly surprised you only have one new venue on the list. I would have put money on STK making the cut! We will see what gets changed bw now & your arrival since we know it will occur. Also am very surprised that there was no Tea Room on the list.
Afternoon Tea just didn't work as well this year since we're neither staying in the GF nor doing MVMCP. It made a great light dinner when we were going to the party.
Also, we decided to book more WS places as well as those close to YC instead of as many in or near the GF as we would if staying there. It's a pain not being on the monorail but couldn't get CL anywhere we wanted but for YC.
Oh, well. It'll all work out eventually, I'm sure.

Update: Finally, FINALLY snagged a few ADR's ourselves
...before the dining system went down AGAIN.
V&A may do a Thanksgiving dinner in the main dining room as that room showed the only availability on Thanksgiving. Not sure so will consult the IPO when possible to find out. It would make sense that's all they do so as to give some staff the evening off. Particularly since the restaurant has been listed in the past as a source of Thanksgiving dinner.
We went ahead and booked the QVR on Friday instead to be assured of getting that which is what we want more than just Thanksgiving dinner at V&A.
Were only able to secure CRT breakfast and 1900 PF dinner before the freakin' system went down. Those three were probably going to be the hardest to acquire, so it's a relief to have at least those.
But, what frustration to be able to get started securing ADR's only to be unable to finish! So VERY annoying.

The whole experience with the adrs can be very annoying as I've certainly had my problems in the past as well!
My Fall adrs are about 75% done but one I can only make two months out as offsite and thru Open Table and waiting for one DS eatery to announce it's opening to make my adr and of course ROL and a dining package for Tiffin's. Hope it all works out but as a planer like you it gets nerve wracking, no matter how many months out it is!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Drew woke an hour early and put the time to good use by firing up his iPad and seeing what ADR's he could get.
HOOOOORAY! He got all the ones we wanted at good times, except of course Thanksgiving dinner.
Upon arriving at work, he checked MDE and found that the IPO had shifted Yachtsman from Friday to Turkey Day since we'd gotten V&A's QVR for Friday. Will leave that for the moment despite thinking we'd like someplace else this year. We ate there on Christmas last trip. While good enough, it feels like same-old for this year. Don't want "Pilgrim food." Too predictable.
Not at all certain what we want instead. I'd vote for Flying Fish if it will indeed be open by then, largely for the location and my love of exotic seafood. Drew would humor me despite not being a seafood fancier. However, is it actually reopening in late summer or November 12? I've seen speculation for either.

I would agree about not wanting to repeat Yachtsman again for a holiday meal since you have already done that - sounds like there will be some shifting of ADRS. Can't see you eliminating Yachtsman altogether either. Flying Fish and Coral Reef - will DH go for that? Sounds like a lot of seafood. Maybe the IPO will know which restaurants are planning holiday meals and that can help you narrow down some ideas. IMHO, I would probably avoid DS area on Thanksgiving bc many people may be visiting the area; same with holiday shoppers on Friday. What about Monsieur Paul on Thanksgiving for a non-traditional meal.

What about Monsieur Paul on Thanksgiving for a non-traditional meal.
You must be psychic. Guess what we decided would be easy to get to and non-traditional? Yup. M. Paul. Got it, too.
So, that meant another puzzle how to fill where it had been. Decided to give Cali Grill another go despite how awfully loud it usually is. It's a holiday week. Practically everywhere will be loud.
And checking for that one thrilled me no end when I saw that there was a 7:25. Early enough for us and late enough that app-entree-dessert-coffee will get us to time to see Wishes from one of the best vantage points at WDW.
:::: does happy, excited gonna see Wishes from CG dance ::::
Naturally, we've made about another half dozen switches so will let them all cool for a day or so before reposting the list.
Now, we need to decide if we want to add a breakfast or try for a non-park lunch on arrival day. Got a total of 2 creds. to do something with. I first thought of a Cape May breakfast on Wednesday, but Drew reminded me how loud that open-sided dining area gets. With 3 character meals already, seemed a bit much.
I checked on a "Disney-healthy" lunch ("We're at Disney. The magic makes everything you eat healthy! ) at Beaches & Cream but nothing at a reasonable time for arrival day.
This may be the year we get stuff at the Patisserie on Friday for lunch on the road Saturday. That would beat the fast food we usually grab midway so as to take less time into Atlanta. We're lunching at Coral Reef on Friday. A slight detour to the Patisserie on the way back to YC might just work. Hmmmmm...

That (Patisserie) would be my top plan or Earl of Sandwich. However with 2 credits you technically could stop by most places before departing and get a meal packed to go. What about your breakfast plans for that morning? CL or an ADR? Depending on what time you are planning on actually getting on the road maybe an earlier breakfast & then actually quick lunch then departure or maybe a more substantial breakfast/brunch would be a better use of the 2 credits.
Definitely not psychic but I wish I was (would help with the toddlers) - just like to pay attention to people.

I know us well enough not to suggest we go to DS before leaving. We always talk about stopping off at EoS for road food but then are much too anxious to get selves gone to hang around.
We've a Captain's Grille ADR for departure day breakfast so suspect we may actually get road food from the Patisserie if we don't end up using those 2 spare creds some other way between now and then. Highly likely we will as you well know.

Friday, November 25
Breakfast--YC CL lounge
Lunch--Coral Reef
Dinner-- Victoria and Albert's Queen Victoria's RoomCHANGE
Saturday, November 26 Goodbye, WDW Day
Breakfast--Captain's Grille
Still can't decide just how to use two extra credits. May keep trying for Beaches & Cream lunch on arrival day although I'm not wild about having to rush again to get to an ADR when we've a 6-1/2 hour drive. Don't want to book later than 1:00 so as not to be too full for TAF at 7:15.
Perhaps a Wednesday or Thursday breakfast as we prefer not to hang around WDW much past checking out. When we're officially gone from there, we want to get going.
Might stock up at the Patisserie on the way from Friday's Coral Reef lunch back to YC since we've a cooler we could ice to keep things fresh for an on-the-road lunch far better than our usual Hardee's or MickeyD's. That sounds like the winner thus far, but who knows?

I think stocking up directly after the Coral Reef would be excellent as far as timing goes to get a good selection rather than later at night. Otherwise your choices look so yummy.
