Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What to do about ADRs?

ADRs presented a dilemma for me on this trip, as I want to eat at nice places, but don’t know how much energy I’ll have at the end of the day to head out and enjoy a nice meal. I’ve made a few plans, but not for every day. I know this will mean some meals I’ll have to have QS or room service, but I’m always happy with the vegetarian platter from Tangierine or a salad from Sunshine Seasons. I did make an ADR for Flying Fish for my first night , and also one for Trattoria al Forno later in the trip. Aside from that, I’ll wing it. I’d rather do that than be constantly on line trying to cancel reservations and make new ones. If I’m feeling up to a nice meal, I’ll just see what’s available. If there isn’t anything I fancy, I’ll go for QS. I can be very flexible with times, and I know from experience that if I am willing to sit at the bar in many places they usually can seat a single guest. I’ll do a small delivery order from Garden Grocer, but on days when I just can't leave the room I’ll do room service.

I plan to go to AK every morning unless it’s raining (my scooter is allergic to rain), back home for a rest, and then on days I feel up to going out again I’ll have dinner out and maybe spend an hour or so at Epcot or DHS. I’ll skip AK mornings on Wednesdays, when the vet window is closed. I don’t plan on going to Magic Kingdom or the monorail resorts at all. I know a lot of people won’t understand this, but at the moment I’m finding it easier just to stick in the Epcot area. MK is magical and wonderful and exciting, but it may just be too stimulating and the crowds too heavy for me to want to deal with right now. There are so few rides that have accessible queues for the scooter these days, and as much as I love just sitting on Main Street and enjoying the atmosphere, I’m not sure I want to tackle it. I may change my mind once I’m there and the pixie dust takes effect!

Next: FP+, “extras”, and “why solo?”

I think you've made the right decision for you with the ADRs, but I am very happy to see Trattoria al Forno is on your short list, given how much we enjoyed it on our last visit. Hopefully you'll have a similar good time to us!

I can understand about not going to the Magic Kingdom - let's face it Epcot and the Studios are just so much easier to get to from where you are, getting to the Magic Kingdom is a real pain and, as you say, will probably draw the crowds a lot more.

It sounds as if you have wonderful plans in place. Flexibility is the name of the game and one of the reasons I love solo travel. I don't have the health issues, but I still don't always want to get up and go. I'm perfectly content just hanging out in the room and getting a meal in the food court.

Oh Laurie! I was so excited to see you have a trip planned, and that you are going to share it with us!

The train isn't new for you, but for anyone considering the train to Disneyworld, we did that last summer and it was great.

As I mentioned in a PM, my DH is in the early stages of a degenerative muscular dystrophy (Pompe disease). I know that he will be more limited in the future so we are doing the adventuring now. I am really inspired by how you are working with your limitations and still doing what you love!

Eeeeeeee!!!! So psyched to find this today!

It is a pain getting to MK and since I never can have too much time in Epcot, I'm always happy to just keep going there.

I remember your train trip! I won't be curled up on the floor..... wouldn't be able to get up again, but it's the same route. I'm so grateful that I grabbed every opportunity to travel while I was able and had the energy. I'll just keep going until I stop!

I have done many solo trips to WDW and I agree that you can be seated as one much easier if you are willing to go where they put you!. I think your ADR's sound great and I completely understand your touring plan, which sounds perfect!!

Amtrak sounds like an exciting way to travel! I think you've made the right decision for you regarding ADRs and also not going to MK. As much as I love MK, I can understand how hard it would be to have to navigate the crowds.

Great ADR choices! You have to do what you can do! I don't blame you for wanting to stay in the Epcot area one bit!

In the "olden days" of WDW, ADRs were not necessary at all unless you were traveling at the very busiest times. There were no Fast Passes, either, so things were definitely done in a free-form way. I enjoyed that, although you could be disappointed and not ride your favorites without getting there early and waiting in lines. This will be sort of a return to that kind of "do what you want to do when you want to to it" kind of touring!

I'm looking forward to that one as well. It's funny that this location has had so many changes and I hope they've found one that will stay a while.

Thanks, Kathy! Once I took MK completely off the radar, this trip began to seem like something I could handle.

The Epcot area is perfect for me. I love being able to scoot around and not be dependent on bus or boat or monorail.
