Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Everything does look beautiful but what a bummer to be on the wrong side of the bus! That has happened to me more than once! The excursion sounds like it would have been perfect with more stops!

This tour does seem dependent on being on the right side of the bus. The scenery you captured is beautiful again.

I too have found that on my trips to Europe. Sort of hit or miss at times!

I think these were the only cows we saw. Apparently in the area we were, cows weren't particularly prevalent. Saw lots of sheep and goats though.

If they could only have condensed all that beauty into a smaller area just for us!

It was a good trip, and DH discovered at lunchtime that our bus had wifi, so a quick pop onto the internet helped make the time pass a bit.

It is a beautiful country, and although we got quite chilly, it was nice to see all the snow.

Well, we still got to see the beauty. It just didn't make for great pictures.

We had about an hour to relax a bit and get ready for dinner in Animator's Palate. Tonight was the show night and it was really fun. I can safely say we are not artists!!

Tonight is also the Frozen deck party and the menu reflected the Frozen theme. We were all given light up snowflakes.

When we returned to our stateroom after dinner, we had a towel Anna (or Elsa). I'm not sure which, but the TV was turned on with the Frozen music playing. The party starts at 10:15. Hope I can stay up that late.

A short video of what our room was like.

We also stopped by the future cruise desk to book Alaska for next summer. We already have one booked through Royal Caribbean, but Wade (the non Disney member of the family) wants to do it on Disney instead! When we get home to look at all the details, we will make a final decision and cancel one of them. The Internet on the ship has been down for 2 days now. Yesterday, we thought perhaps it was due to the fjord, but it was supposed to be up by midnight, hours after we left the fjords. It was up then, as well as this morning, but is down again. The CM at the Future Cruise Desk commented that it had been down all day. Their job is being made quite difficult, to say he least. Fortunately we had gotten a quote the other day, so they just took that and will email the details to us when possible.

We made it to the Freezing the Night Away Party and it was cute. Let me tell you, we didn't need Queen Elsa to freeze the night! It was cold up there and we purposely stayed on Deck 9 and not the windy Deck 10. (Most of my photos were of the video board rather than the actual stage, as we didn't have a great view, and I wasn't going to leave the comforts of my chair and blanket. )

Another little video of the finale of the show.

It lasted about 40 min., with an after party for adults in Fathoms. As we were heading toward the forward stairwell, I spied Coves and immediately thought, I need hot chocolate! That helped thaw us out a bit!

I'm so glad tomorrow is an at sea day. I'm exhausted and ready to sleep in. The poor room stewards are going to have a tough time tomorrow getting their rooms done! We told Pa to skip us one night and we just may say the same tomorrow morning! It's not like we can't throw the covers up ourselves and we have plenty of towels!

That menu is really cool!!. The party looks fun and I'm glad you guys were able to enjoy it!! We also love RCCL, Pris, and are Diamond members with them. We would love to go on another Disney Cruise but it is just too expensive comparatively. It's nice to see that Wade is coming around!!

The Freezing the Night Away Party does look cute. And Disney really get into with the Anna/Elsa towel critter.

We loved the Frozen Party, and thought it was a nice change from Pirates.
But we never got an Elsa (or Anna) towel.

Looked like a good meal at AP. Love all the detail and originality that goes into the menus and design of them! Too bad it was so cold for the Frozen party.

You will love it and hopefully it won't be quite so frozen on deck for you.

I thoroughly understand the cost issue on the cruises. Also, with DCL only having 4 ships, their itineraries and availability are naturally limited.

As we know, Disney never does anything half way.

But we never got an Elsa (or Anna) towel.
The towel "person" was really cute.

Well, the cold weather just made it all seem more realistic I guess.

June 12

On this beautiful At Sea day, the temps are in the mid 60's and the sun is brilliant. There are people in the pools and many lounging in the sun. It is still chilly in the shade, but much better. We slept in until around 10 and then leisurely headed to Cabanas for a small breakfast. After that we roamed a bit around the ship killing time so our poor hostess would have time to do the room. It's a tough day to be a host or hostess!

When we returned we watched the debarkation spiel and then prepared our tip envelopes. We had a voice mail from Port Adventures. They had called the other night after we turned in our comment form, but had not heard back from the tour company due to the Internet issues we have had. They now had a proper response from the company who assured them that they were investigating the issue and the guide and were properly training the guides concerning the itinerary. Disney then compensated us with a 20% credit to our account for the cost of the excursion. We weren't concerned about a credit, but I do appreciate it and believe it was appropriate, especially since Wade ended up sick that night due to the food/diabetes meds intolerance. (After that day we always put a banana in the bag to carry with us, just in case.)

For the past few days there was a Frozen scavenger hunt going on with clues in the Navigator. You were to fill in the questionnaire and leave it on your bed. If completed the room steward would leave you a reward. We just never seemed to find the time to participate, although our tablemates all did. We had been discussing whether or not everyone would get the prize or not. Well, this morning we discovered that, indeed, everyone was rewarded. We found this waiting for us on our return to our room—yummy Frozen rice krispie treats.

We enjoyed a lazy few hours in the room reading and watching TV, before lunch and then packing. On one of our strolls around the ship, I just had to try out the window seat that I kept seeing people in. They really are quite comfortable.

Our farewell dinner was at Carioca's tonight. Our tablemates were all present and sadly discussing the end of the cruise as well as the booking of our next cruises. After all, you have to have something to look forward to. One of our tablemates had been craving a Mickey bar for dessert and she was rewarded tonight. Before you knew it, we all had one!

We returned to our cabin to find our final towel creature, put the last few things in the bags (playing with weight), put them in the hall and settled in for an early evening. We had breakfast at 7:15 in the morning.

June 13

The alarm rang at 6:15 and I got up and started getting ready. After I got out of the shower, Wade jumped in and we ended up ready 30 min. before breakfast. I checked my email and watched out the window as we docked. We then headed down to breakfast, where the doors still weren't open. Soon we were all together for one last time. Gabriel and Allissia had done a great job of feeding us this week and it was sad saying good-by.

After breakfast we headed out to find out if our Tinkerbell section was cleared to leave the ship. I asked a cast member and was told we could head off anytime. This is the first time we sailed where that was the way. Once the ship cleared, everyone was clear to leave, with all luggage sections waiting on the dock. We gathered our bags and followed the signs to our bus to the airport. Our bus driver took us on a small city tour pointing out the sights along the way.

Once arriving at the Copenhagen airport, we grabbed a kiosk and tried to check in. The machine didn't like us, so we had to go to the counter. KLM had a huge line with 1 person working! It was taking forever, bless her heart! Finally they got smart and got some more people working, so we made it through and on to security. It was moving quite fast and I remembered my liquid bag, which I had to dig out. I then asked and discovered we needed to pull out our iPads and my kindle. We're not used to that at all. But all was soon accomplished and we got on our way again. Copenhagen is a beautiful, HUGE, airport, but we finally made it to the gate with about 40 minutes to wait for boarding.

Our first leg to Amsterdam went well, and we arrived in Amsterdam with about a 3-hour layover. On our long trek to our new gate, we decided to stop for lunch. I had a salad and Wade got a burger. We were able to spend most of our remaining Euros. We then took the hike to find our gate and wait for boarding. The next flight was run by KLM. Their food is tons better than the stuff Delta served us on our flight over!! We were in the next to last row with an aisle and middle seat (of 3). The guy in the 3rd seat spent a lot of time standing in the back with his buddy so that was nice for me. I think they were flirting with the flight attendants, but really don’t care. I was more comfortable. The only complaint I have about the KLM seats is that they recline too much. It’s nice for the person reclining, but really gets into the personal space of the person in the back. Oh, well, this 9-hour flight finally ended and landed in Atlanta a little early.

This was the transfer I was most worried about, as we had to clear customs. We had exactly 2 hours. I had no need to worry. Customs moved quite well, and we ended up at our new gate in about an hour. That included stopping to pick up a muffin and drink for Wade, as his diabetes was telling him to eat, and a restroom break for me. We soon boarded our final flight home. We had the aisle and middle seats, but the window seat was open, so I scooted over. We arrived a little early!

The only real snafu was finding our car! We had parked it in the economy garage at the airport (a great deal at $6/night), but I had remembered and written down the wrong level! We were searching level 5 and it wasn’t there. I assure you that is a sick feeling, especially when you are as exhausted as we were. Finally, I told Wade, let’s check level 6, as I remembered that we had considered that level when we parked. We went up, and there she was! Thank heavens. We pulled into our driveway almost exactly 24 hours after our alarm had gone off that morning.

AHHHHH, BED!!

FINAL THOUGHTS

This was a wonderful trip and you can’t beat Disney Cruise Lines for service. Wade seems to be convinced that we should continue sailing Disney on all our future cruises. I don’t have a problem with that, however, they just don’t always go where we want to go when we can go. And, there is no question about the expense.

Would we go back to Norway? Probably not. It was a beautiful country and I am immensely glad we went. That being said, I am satisfied with “been there, done that.” We both much prefer Alaska as a destination. I spoke with several people on the cruise, all of whom seemed to feel the same way. I, personally, think the landscape is prettier in Alaska. The big comment we all seemed to share, though, is that there is no wildlife to be seen in Norway. I’m sure there is wildlife there, but all we saw were seagulls, and a few other birds.

And that is why we are booked to return to Alaska next summer. We currently actually have 2 cruises booked, Disney and Royal Caribbean, at the same time. We’ve got to do some research and talking to decide which to keep and which to cancel. I suspect we will be keeping the Disney cruise. (We did end up cancelling Royal Caribbean.)
