As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I'll bet that guy next to you had some great stories to tell about the crazy woman hammering in tent stakes with a skillet. I can't begin to imagine what all you are going through with this move. I admire your dedication. Uh, oh, the next posting sounds ominous.
I do not like mosquitoes one bit, so I could imagine your dance as I'm pretty sure I would have been doing the same. Nice of the guy to loan you a hammer. I kept thinking of Rapunzel in Tangled wielding her skillet.

Rapunzel popped into my mind also! What a picture that conjures up of you trying to set up the tent in the dark with a skillet! It's a wonder you didn't smack yourself in the head with the skillet going after a mosquito.

I didn't think about Rapunzel as I was doing it but it fits. I was worried I was making too much noise with my fry pan so the guy loaning me his hammer was great.

I'm glad I didn't or I could have added a headache on top of everything else. I'm glad DD didn't video me or I never would have lived this episode down.

Setting up camp at dark is no fun! And adding mosquito's to the mix is even worse....

Being so high up (on top of the world) it was dim light would have been brighter except was overcast. If you look at pictures in the tent-the light is all natural and it's about 10pm. Mosquito's were not fun.
DD (Beth) was relieved to find our campground had 'real' bathrooms rather than outhouses and made use of them right quick and I was happy to hear they had showers and was looking forward to getting some of the hot & sweaty dirt off of me. I headed over after DD returned from bathroom only to find the shower was co-op and I had no quarters and the office was of course closed. Instead, I locked myself in the restroom and washed up (sponge bath) it wasn't as good as a shower but helped. and I felt better. Back to the tent to finish journal for today, while DD watched a video on laptop and we were entertained by silly cats.

I checked map for the next day then off to sleep.
Once nice thing about weather being cloudy it was cool and while I was in bathroom DD killed all mosquitos while I burned a coil so no buzzing like the night before. I did sleep better - only woke up twice, once to grab an extra blanket because I was cold and the second time because I heard the tent zipper and it woke me out of a dead sleep. DD was coming back from the bathroom, I said "cats!" I heard her say no! (to the cats) then I went back to sleep.
In the morning I sat up to turn off the alarm and put on my glasses. I saw beauty but no patches. I woke up Beth and asked her if patches got out last night. We looked all around the tent but didn't see her so I grabbed my coat and shoes and walked the campground calling for her. I figured that if she got out at 3AM she wouldn't be around and I would have to tell DH. By the time I got back to our site I was in tears. I paused for a moment to wipe my face and heard DD call to me. I walked over to the tent and DD said look, so I unzipped the tent door enough to stick my head in and she was holding patches! I asked where she was and DD who sleeps with 3-4 pillows said Patches crawled out from between her pillows, she was trying to stay warm. I was very happy to see her.
I took Patches on her leash and she enjoyed walking around in the bushes then put cats in cab and DD helped me pack up and load gear in trailer. I asked DD how she liked camping since it was her first time and she said she would like it better with more comforts of home, like heat! Well it was on the cool side last night.

So glad that Patches was safe and sound. Sorry you had the stress of thinking she was lost. I am definitely not a camper and would not have enjoyed the cool air at all. If I get cold, I can't sleep.
Great report so far! It must have been so difficult to make this move, but I'm sure that being close to your grandchildren is wonderful! So much beautiful scenery along the way! I'm impressed with how well your cats are doing. Mine hate being in the car. I'm so glad that Patches wasn't lost.
