Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Thumbs down Sad Update: BIG Signature Letdown

Scoring for overall experience, 1-10:

Rose & Crown Dining Room = 10
Artist Point = 3

What a disappointment after the raves we'd heard for AP. Honestly, the all-around worst-managed Disney TS ever in our experience. Appallingly bad for a signature.

Details forthcoming in full review.

Thanks for correcting my mental block on Osborne Lights!

Sorry to hear about your experience at AP as I've ate there probably 3-4 times now and has always been good. I would have thought the 3 and 10 reviews would have been reversed. Never have ate at R&C, but plan too eventually. I've heard mixed reviews from that. Quite surprised with your experience at AP! Was it the food, service or a bit of both that made this quite unpleasant dining for the two of you? I'm actually quite shocked to hear about this and looking forward to the details of this in the TR!

So sorry to hear about your rating of Artist Point. We've never eaten but had it in our plans for our next visit to WL.

So sorry to hear about Artist Point. We haven't eaten there in some time, but we've always had good meals there in the past.

Update: Artist Point Epic Fail (condensed)

Admittedly, SuperD and all, I probably ought to have rated Artist Point slightly higher overall for pretty good, not fabulous, food.

However, the management was simply atrocious. We waited and waited, etc. at several points for things we needed to be noticed, not to mention be done for us. As a result, we were very much at liberty to observe how many staff appeared to have nothing to do or were uninformed about what they ought to be doing. Meanwhile, our water glasses were never topped off much less refilled. Servers were clearing their own tables when they definitely needed to be attending to diners' needs.

For example, there was a receptionist at the podium located at the bottom of the entry ramp who verified our ADR and sent us up the ramp to a station of THREE women standing around busily chatting. One showed us to our table. Did that require three CM's? Hardly. No wonder they were merrily conversing among themselves; they obviously had nothing else to do.

To put our experience in a timeframe, we arrived slightly before 7:00 for our 7:10 ADR, early primetime.

More--sadly, much more--to follow in detailed review.

Very sorry to hear this. On my last visit we had excellent service and saw none of the staff behavior you saw. In the past, though, I've experienced terrible service there. I agree with you that this should never happen at a signature. I always enjoy the food, though, and think it's a beautifully designed room.

I just got caught up on your trip report. You hit upon my Disney pet peeve-child friendly does not mean let you child run wild. I have raised three kids (well I might add, they are all very sucessful, responsible, kind, caring adults). I love kids and work with kids on a regular basis. BUt kids need to learn how to behave.

When my children were young and they were in a restaurant ( don't care of it's Friendly's or even McDonald's), they were expected to sit nicely and behave well. If they couldn't, then one of us would take him/her out and get a doggy bag.

I love kids, but I also love a nice quiet dinner. I could also go on about over tired children at Disney, but I need to get off my soap box.

Hope you have better dining to come. My food intake is very limited so I need to live vicariously through others

[QUOTE=Her Dotness;4395967]Can't honestly say I've ever thought of myself as such, but I suppose a person qualifies who has 7-8 teapots and half a dozen teaballs, those little paper disk drip catchers for the teapot spout, 3 strainers--two utilitarian, one silverplated. LOL I guess I'd better admit to that status, huh? We won't talk about how many books I have on tea history, lore and recipes.

Don't sell yourself short; that's a good deal more than most Americans know. [QUOTE]

I know! That's why I bragged about it

Quote:
If you want a very interesting tea experience, try a Lapsang Souchong. It's a quite smoky-tasting tea, a peculiar flavor but one that goes beautifully with pizza or other strongly-flavored foods. Our local tea room run by an Englishwoman does a fabulous blend of black teas called November 5 (Guy Fawkes' Day when lighting bonfires is traditional). It tastes like smoke from a bonfire smells. An acquired taste, but quite exciting for the adventurous sorts like me. Terrific paired with one of their Cornish pasties.
Sounds very interesting! Will be on the lookout for it.

Update: Twooo Wuuuv, Italian Style

Ahhhhhhhhh...Tutto Italia does NOT disappoint. Oh, how it does not! I may soon count the myriad ways.

I hate olives, truly detest them. Ummmm, maybe not entirely. These fat green olives are fruity-tasting and scarcely salty. Can olives be al dente? I say these are--smooth yielding skin with a delicately toothsome meat. I nearly sucked the pits! [pic to follow. These are glorioso ovals of yumminess]

:::::: Dot blissing out ::::::

And my salmone arrives...

Dot, I love olives (good ones, I am Italian) so plese suck at some for me. I can nolonger eat them and I need to use all the restraint I can muster not to buy them when I pass the olice bar at Whole Foods or the local "gourmet" food shop.

Then, you will doubtless "enjoy" the full Artist Point review which includes "Booster Seat Bronco Boy" as well as "Kneeling With Feet Propped Upright On Backrest PRE-TEEN Boy." Luckily, I missed the first as the unrestrained little imp was behind me. Not that lucky on the latter who was squirming like a three-year-old off and on during the admittedly much too lengthy wait between courses.

We have had and shall have more, I'm sure. Just hilighting the most distinctive, positive or negative, here in real-time.

You'll drool through the Tutto Italia review, I expect. It was just heavenly with spectacular service.

Edit 2 hrs. later to add: Still drooling over the bite of Drew's cannoli and my magnificent chocolate panna cotta with dark cherries. Not your typical American sugary and mushy dark cherries. These were pitted unnoticeably and about the size of a dime. A bit chewy, delightfully so, and intensely flavorful. These danced across the Ponte Vecchio singing operatically, "We are the Ultimate Cherries solely for your delight."
