Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I try to get out for at least one outdoor run (usually my long run) just for some variety, and to make sure I don't forget how to run outside I was actually talking to my wife about how much I use the treadmill, while it is still decent running weather outside (still no snow/ice here yet!!!) Guess I feel guilty that, after spending all this cash on the treadmill, to just leave it sitting in the basement unused. I KNOW that won't be a problem in January and February...but it still feels like something that should be used whenever possible right now. Maybe once that new treadmill smell starts to wear off??

I use the treadmill mainly for my form runs that my coach has me do. Even in the summer. However, since it's freezing cold here the tready is for all my runs right now.

I spent 2 hours and 40 minutes looking at the bottom of the pool today. That was 6,800 meters which was really only 1 hour and 58 minutes swim time. By the time I finished I couldn't remember where I parked and I was too hungry to eat. Tonight I got to spend 1:20 on the trainer. I think I may go to bed now.

I just keep buying pants to run outside in. I'm up to 5 pairs now just praying that the polar vortex doesn't come back to visit. Otherwise it's over to the dreadmill.

Since I've spent years in freezing ice rinks, I've kind of built a tolerance to cold. I won't run outside when the weather is under 15, so Wednesday will be out with a high of 5. I guess I'm a die hard, and try to avoid the dreadmill at all costs.

So, I spent my morning downhill skiing instead of my original plan to run 7 mi. It was in the teens here and snowing so skiing seemed more appropriate than running. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 50 so I will run then. NY weather is so crazy lately!

Robin - sometimes I get exhausted just reading your posts about your workouts. I am so impressed.

It's snowing here again so my hour run in the morning will be on the treadmill. I also have a shorter run in the afternoon so if it clears a little I might do it outside. I do hate the treadmill, but running in the cold makes me cough for hours. I also don't want to chance slipping and falling on the icy sidewalks and paths.

Amy, I'm kind of jealous of you guys because you get to run more than I do. Running is my weak link and I want to get faster. However, I know that if I run too much too soon that my left limb will not be happy by August 2.

The most exhausting part of training for this Ironman is figuring out how to get rid of my permanent chlorine smell from the pool....

Boston training started last week...in week 2 of the training program. Signed up for some coaching for this year, so we will see how that helps with Boston and NYC Marathon completion. I actually keep forgetting my next race is actually a 30km race in my local city that's the oldest Road Race in North America...pre-dates Boston by 2 years

Thanks to my lack of vision, all I get to look at while I run is the "True" name on my treadmill....for 1:20 this morning....fun....

Tim

Coaching makes a world of difference. I was (still am) grateful for the coaching I received through team in training. I'm thinking of signing up again to do another race with them..

Even though it has been a week, I'd have to agree that I'm already noticing the benefits that coaching is going to give my progress. I've got a proven training plan I'm working on, and the thing I love is that it is all laid out for me online, there's no thinking I have to do other than open my app and see what is in store for me today

Also pretty excited to try a new race fuelling product that I've never heard of on the suggestion of my coach...after reading reviews, I'm thinking the stuff might not only correct my GI/stomach issues I've had in my marathons, but also give me a better energy curve and more sustained energy as well.

Tim, what is the new race fueling product? I would like to try it because I don't want any stomach issues for the Ironman.

Tim, I had GI issues during the full. I was good till mile 6 when I had my first baby food fuel (sweet potato and applesauce) and noticed I was feeling off. At mile 9.5 I had my Clif Bloks which usually go down fine. Not this time. I needed a port o potty! But there wasn't one for nearly 2 miles as I had just passed some! It was brutal.

And then every time I tried to run, I'd last 30 seconds and then - pain. UGH!!! So I just kept trying and trying. And if I wasn't in pain - I just ran. Ran like the wind because I didn't know how long my tummy would cooperate. I think I ran 3 straight miles at one point, which I never do. No intervals, just run until I couldn't run anymore!! I broke all the rules! I had no more fuel along the way except powerade. Yep, only powerade for 17 miles. I didn't dare put anything in my tummy for fear of revolt. And I managed to PR by 3 minutes. CRAZY!!!!

Ha! Sorry....can't believe I forgot to mention what I'm trying....

Stuff is called Generation UCAN. It is a corn-based "super starch" (what the company calls it). It is different than pretty much any other sport fuel in that it is a slow-release carb, so rather than getting the quick spike and harsh drop in energy (at times) it elevates your fuel and keeps it there for a prolonged time.

The company claims that one to two servings about a half our to 45 minutes before exercise is all you need for 2-4 hours of prolonged exercise. No additional fuelling during the run needed....just water is all you need. Side benefit is because it has no sugar in it, it also allows you to better tap your fat for better energy use.

I've looked into a BUNCH of reviews, and all of them were positive...most overly so. Many were ultra-marathon type athletes who spoke about how they didn't need the multiple gels, sport drinks etc during exercise...the UCAN was all they needed.

Neat thing you can do as well is either re-fuel mid-run with a bottle of UCAN to drink while on the go....or if you want to keep it light you can even make a gel out of it by adding it to less water.

Seems almost too good to be true, but I searched and only found people saying good things about it, so figured I'd give it a shot. It certainly isn't cheap.... but the way I rationalize it, never mind if it works, but the fact that one serving (about two to three bucks depending on how strong) equates to about $2-3...which is way less than I'd spend on gels for my run...so while it seems pricy, I'll actually spend LESS on fuel, and possibly have improved performance.

I've got some on the way, so I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. Actually thought of you and your fuelling issues when I was reading/learning about it

Tim
