Sep 26-Oct 3: MNSSHP + Food & Wine + More: The PTR - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like the package could be fun, will be interested to hear your review.
Let's hope it's fun

Lisa - I was told each person got all the goodies, including the wine, glass, etc. There has been some confusion about this early on, but it seems to be the case now. I have read it is selling out for some of the busier times.
I was planning to update ADRs, but they seem to be changing regularly, so will let that settle down a bit. Am also working on plans for our February trip - as I am counting on getting BOG for that one
Love the title of that last post! Seems like Disney is hard at work to find more and more ways to make us spend our money I'll be interested to hear your review of it when you get back. It is pricey, but sounds like you get a lot for your money.
Just signed into your TR! Your plans sound wonderful so far We haven't eaten at The Liberty Tree Tavern in many years but it used to be a favorite of ours. It's going to be so nice staying in an Epcot resort during the F&W! Your pictures look almost like water color paintings, they're so beautiful!

You are right, Jenn! As a shareholder, I am all for Disney making money. I am, however, still conflicted about the proliferation of Premium events.

Thank you, Linda. Glad you like the photos. I sometimes go out of my way to achieve a painterly look.
Mini- update: I asked Lou (DH):
Me: "Any dining requests for the September Disney trip?"
Him: "Whatever you pick is fine. Just make sure we eat at Wilderness Lodge at least once."
I should just have Laurie make my ADRs, since she got it right. So, goodbye California Grill, hello Artist Point.
I also went over the planned itinerary with him, and he is okay with everything so far. Even the Halloween Party (of which he has no idea what it is), and the early morning CP breakfast.
He wants to get some photos of the trains - fortunately they don't stop for refurbishment until the 3rd day of our trip!
I'm sure you'd have had a wonderful meal whichever you chose, and it would have been nice not to have to leave the Contemporary for dinner, but AP is always fabulous. Something tells me Lou won't be in costume for the Halloween party, but you could wear your orange wig.

Still trying to play catch up. About running to kiosks for dine res. Back in those days as on site guest you could make ressies a whole 3 days in advance and we thought that was great

Muhahahah ... the orange wig, the blue one, or maybe just go with the Uncle Fester Look???
Lou in costume is probably a longshot.

I know, Mike - 3 whole days in advance! Look at us now

Thanks, Cam. It's good to get a little input from the other half, since he leaves the planning to me.
Before I start my update, just want to say congrats to those who are leaving very soon for the August trips - I think we have quite a few PassPorter Travelers ready to hit the road or the skies. Travel safely and have fun!
More ADRs & Plans - Part Two
9/28 Sunday: We left off with Sunday morning breakfast at Crystal Palace. We will hang out at the Magic Kingdom for a while, then drive over to The Boardwalk, where we will be checking in for a 5 night stay. I doubt our room will be ready, so we will either head over to Epcot or maybe Downtown Disney. There is a chance Lou won't want to get up for early breakfast, but I don't mind going by myself. I just like to take the opportunity to get into the park early.
I am concerned about the impact of the construction around the hub on photo opportunities
Dinner tonight is at the Rose & Crown, followed by Illuminations. Rose & Crown is one of two sentimental favorite restaurants for us at Epcot. Any guesses on what the other is? We are not, in general, the sentimental type, so it's nice to have a few favorites. I'm going to try to get a photo of the Scotch Egg that is actually in focus this time I also need to get more photos of the buildings in this area at night, since I have very few.
9/29 Monday: No breakfast or lunch ADRs for today. We may grab something at either the Boardwalk Bakery or the Boulangerie, but I want to ride Test Track in the morning, then start sampling the Festival Food Booths at 11am. I've heard the best time to minimize waiting in line is to visit the booths early in the day, and avoid weekends.
As discussed in a previous post, I signed us up for the F&W Festival Premium Event. This includes VIP areas around World Showcase (seating still not confirmed), where runners can pick up food from some of the kiosks. These areas are available Mon-Thursday from noon until 8pm. This is new, so no one knows quite what to expect.
I have no photos from the F&W Festival, so here are a few random food photos from the World Showcase:
Monday evening, we have an ADR at Bluezoo in The Dolphin. This is a first. I'm still not sure if we will be doing a big sit down dinner each evening of the F&W Festival, but it's booked just in case.

Just joining in. All the plans sound wonderful so far. I don't mind the extra package things as long as it doesn't interfere with the "regular" guest's experience.
