As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I know, isn't their medal super cute? If only I could shrink down a foot....

Has anyone received their ToT email re waivers and corrals? Don't we usually get them 30 days prior to race? I'm so excited for this race to get here! How is everyone doing with training? So far so good for me.
Finally looked over the final race info. Pretty standard!
And my magic band came last week. Opened it over the weekend. (crazy week. ) Sooooo ready for a weekend away. Oh yeah, and that 10 miles too!!

No MB's for us yet. That's ok though as I still have the ones from our summer trip that are perfectly fine that I wish I could just use. Seems like such a waste for them to send me more. I won't lie - I will be super excited when I see them in my mailbox as I am so excited for this trip!
My oldest (and grown) daughter decided to do the 10 miler last year and I got a wild hair and signed DH and myself up for the 5k. I had been trying to come back from a badly sprained ankle from May 2012 and in August 2013 found out it had been broken the whole time, it just didn't show on the X-ray . So I got to watch the 5k and the 10 miler and go around with a knee walker, what a great substitute for crutches!
So we are trying it again this year and the three of us are going in the 5K and the 10 miler. Last month I hurt my other leg training, but today was a great workout. DH and I are walking and will be far back, but we are looking forward to all of the fun and excitement.
Happy to hear your ankle is all healed and you can run in both races this year! That's great! I am getting super excited too. I have wanted to run this race for a long time and can't believe it is now only 2 weeks away!
Whoa - a broken ankle that wasn't even identified? Sounds painful to me. Yikes! Glad it's healed up now though. You will have a fun race, for sure. It'll be too hot to run much anyway. I'm leaning more and more towards walking a bunch of it myself!
As far as excitement - I get sooooo stoked when I think about this trip! But reality keeps dumbing it down. After missing two weeks of training while my son was ill, I ran the other day and flared up my sore back again. So I can't just jump right back in apparently! It'll be interesting to see how my Half goes this Saturday. I'm pacing as the balloon ladies - 16 min/mile, back of the pack. So it'll be strictly walking, but for 3 1/2 hours!
And then I still have the kids crazy schedule of cross country practices and meets and gymnastics and Girl Scouts and birthday parties and sleepovers and aaahhhhh!! Really can't wait for this trip.

Thanks Amy. It is rapidly approaching and I am soooo excited
Thanks Tanya, You are right about the heat. I'm in Alaska and we have had a cool rainy summer and now fall is here. I'm sure that I will notice it, but it will still be so much fun. Missing training makes it hard. I keep telling myself not to overdo as I don't want to hurt myself. I really want to finish the race. I don't think my ankle will ever be like it was, but if I don't get swept up I will be extatic

Oh no Tanya - so sorry to hear about your back!! for fast healing. Please make sure you rest it as much as you can. Remember RICE. Also, I really like those ThermaCare heat wrap thingies. You can stick one right on your back and go about your day or use it to get a good night's sleep - 8 hours of soothing heat. Good luck with all that walking this weekend. What a fun change to be a balloon pacer.
I hear you on the excitement of this race and all that needs to get done beforehand. We have a similar schedule around here, but instead of cross country meets and girl scouts we have Irish Dancing with an out of town Feis and tons of Boy Scout popcorn to sell.

Hi there, I've been thinking of you and wondering how you are feeling. I'm hoping your back is better. How did the half go?
Hey!
It went surprisingly well. It wasn't very well organized though. I mean, as a runner it's very well organized. But for us - the "back of the pack" crew - there weren't clear rules on what to do with those who couldn't keep up the 16 min/mile pace. I guess I'm used to Disney races with checkpoints. You reach those checkpoints and if you're behind pace, you're swept. End of story. But they didn't do that here. They didn't force anyone on the bus. It was voluntary. These ladies admitted that they didn't train and wholeheartedly expected to be bused to the finish line. I mean, they still gave an effort, but their pace was like a 20 min/mile.
I was thinking we were strictly going to walk a 16 min/mile and anyone that lagged behind would be forced on the bus. But that didn't happen. So that was frustrating. The true "runners" that trained and were seriously maintaining their 15 or 16 min/mile pace are the ones who truly could have used our support and encouragement. And they were always at least 1 mile ahead of us. Frustrating indeed.
But the upside to all of this is it was very easy on my back! I managed to walk the 13.1 miles (with 2 little bouts on the bus which equaled about 1 mile, maybe - so I guess we walked 12.1) and had no pains whatsoever. Silver lining, I suppose.
Now I will slowly get back to actual running again over the next 2 weeks. ToT is coming up fast! Thanks for thinking of me and asking!
