As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I was just reading about the Wilderness Explore badge this afternoon, so I'm interested to see how much Tyler liked exploring. Stella was definitely fascinated by the book. FotLK is my favorite show and thankfully it was Stefanie's, too, so I never had trouble getting to see this one. Luke loves it, too.

DW, DGD (14) and I did it in July. It put us in several places that we had been walking by. It is a lot of fun even for us seniors. We did complete the books well almost. DGD quite on hers after a few badges but her Granny asked her to finish hers since she was not going to the parks especially AK in the heat. Reluctantly she did it.

It was definitely a big hit with both kids (and Allen actually .) Funny about FotLK because the first time we saw it, Tyler cried almost the whole time (it was our very first trip and our first time at AK- we did Dinosaur first, not realizing how scary it could be, and basically that set the tone for the rest of the day!) I'll never forget my MIL, who has more patience than almost anyone I know, finally had enough and told Tyler enough was enough. We had been back to see it since that first debacle of a day at AK but I don't know it's been so long? I got a bit teary during "Can You Feel The Love Tonight." No idea why, it just got to me! We will definitely be making a stop there more often.

Allen got into it too so I definitely think it appeals to "kids" of all ages And I totally agree, we stopped and learned some things in places that we have just passed through for years without taking the time to appreciate. We only did about 10 or so badges but we will take them back when we head over there again and let the kids keep going. It's nice to have something different to "try".

This kid and her stroller- for the last year or so she hasn't wanted to ride in her stroller at WDW and in fact we have had a couple of meltdowns here and there because we made her ride. Now in the last 2 months or so- she is all about riding in the stroller (but only at WDW.) Kids!
After leaving FotLK and getting our stroller, our FP's were good for KS so we headed over that way. Tyler also wanted to get several badges for his Wilderness Explorer book which were in that area.
When you pick up your Wilderness Explorer book, you are given a sticker for your shirt that looks like the WE badge (and CMs can identify you are participating.) As we were walking towards Africa, all the sudden a CM stopped Tyler and said "The wilderness must be explored." Then Tyler, without missing a beat, did the hand gestures and said "Caw caw rawr" right along with the CM. Allen and I gave each other looks- Tyler had to inform me that it was from Up! (which we haven't seen all the way through yet) but he knew exactly what to so. It was pretty funny!
The standby time for KS was only about 20 minutes, but our handy FPs allows us to make it all the way through in roughly 5 minutes or so. And soon we were on our way:
It was about 11:15am and was already quite warm so I figured we might not see a ton of animals...which seemed to be ok with these 2 as they were totally consumed with their activity books:
The ride was pretty quite until we got to the savannah. And then we could see that there were several giraffes out! Yay!
We saw baby Gordon!
And we saw Mosi!!!

There were zebras running around near the lion rocks and the lioness was staring them down!
Once we excited KS, it was time to tackle some Wilderness Explorer badges. I was so shocked to see how friendly Stella was with the strangers but I think a lot of it had to do with her brother being safely be her side:
For this badge, there was a page that had to be filled out about the safari:
Next we headed to the Pangani Trail to earn some more badges. I think along the trail we must have earned about 5 badges, including near the gorillas- which was a huge hit with my crew.
After collecting several badges, we decided we wanted to have lunch and settled on Restaurantosaurus. We walked towards Asia and cut across the bridge, but not before stopping for a Yak Attack (because it was hoooooot!)
Once we got to Dinoland, Allen grabbed Primeval Whirl FP's and then we headed in to eat. Allen got the bacon burger, Tyler got chicken nuggets, Stella got a hamburger and I had the black bean burger. None of us really cared for our meals though- I don't know if it was just the heat or the food itself. We picked here and there but a good portion of our food was left uneaten.
Allen and Tyler then headed to Primeval Whirl and I gave Stella the choice of seeing Goofy and Pluto or riding Triceratops Spin- she picked Triceratops Spin. She loved it and would have happily rode again but Allen asked the kids instead if they wanted to play the games- which was of course responded to with a rousing YES!!!
Stella threw 3 of the 4 balls and didn't even make it to the containers, but Allen threw one and it landed in a white hole, which was a large prize! So she ended up getting a rather large Pascal!
Tyler ended up getting one his balls in a blue container, which was a small prize. He was excited because he had won the same level prize in February and now he could get the same prize but the other color.
They played another 2 games and acquired yet a few more prizes before we decided to move on. Allen was going to take Tyler to do single rider for EE but with the heat, we decided we needed to start making our way towards the front of the park. But we had to first make a stop to see Mickey:

When we left Mickey, Stella was feeling the need to see more fluffy's after not wanting to see them all day- she kept asking to see Goofy but we didn't want to trek all the way back to Dinoland so we made a quick stop to see Pooh and Tiger before leaving for the day:
This cracks me up- she's waiting patiently for Pooh to finish hugging Tyler so she can get a hug too:
And then Tiger! And Stella showed him how she can jump too!
After finishing these greets, we decided to call it a day. It was HOT and we had to get home to get ready for the week.
Tonight we are planning to head to MK to meet Lisa (lfredsbo) and Em for a little fun before the start of the week!
Two of my favorite things: KS and Pangani! I can't wait to see all my animal friends again in October, but getting to see some of them via your pictures is great, especially Gordon and Mosi.
