Down the Rabbit Hole--Moving to Orlando Complete 7/28 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Heather, Good luck with the interview and I am sure having the questions beforehand will definately give you a hand up. At least you will know what they are looking for so you can get to the next level. With all your experience once you can get to the next step you should be a shoe in!
Heather and many for a safe travel and move to Orlando and for the job interview, keeping my fingers crossed that you get the job. Looking forward to hearing about your new adventure in Florida.

Good luck Heather! Looking forward to hearing about your new adventure!
I so understand your statement...too much heartache for too little pay. I left teaching for pretty much the same reasons...I miss the kids, but not the head and heart aches.

Heather, hope your interview went well today. Said a little prayer for you as you embark on this new career path! I am so inspired by your positive attitude and putting your plans into action.
Hope to get to see you when DH and I are there in November. Will contact when it gets closer.

Well here it is today, and I hope everything's going well for you.
It may have been said before, but I think you are incredibly brave. I wish when I was "younger", I'd had the courage to branch out and do something out of my comfort zone (not that I'm not happy with where I am, but I was always held back by my fears). You have the courage to go out there and do it. My hat's off to you and I hope you find everything you're looking for and then some!
And I look forward to reading more about your new adventures as they happen.
I dropped off two of the kittens to their new Mommy on the Westbank and then I did some shopping.
I ordered a Mattress to be delivered on 6/1. I went into the store on Monday just to test drive some mattresses. Then I found about that they were willing to extend the Memorial Day sale that hadn't started yet for me. They must not have made their sale quota for the week. It also turns out Mattress Firm has locations everywhere and you can order from one store and have a delivery made to another area. I got a great Memorial Day sale deal on a Queen size Serta Memory Foam. I think the original list price was $1500 for the set and it was on clearance, plus $200 off for the Memorial Day sale--so I spent just about $600 plus free delivery!
Since I was in the area, I decided to check out World Market and Pier One for inspiration for my interior decorating project. My bedroom is currently loosely themed after Alice in Wonderland and Disney Princesses. I have Snow White and Sleeping Beauty Lithos on the wall. My bedspread is the old Alice in Wonderland spread FROM the Grand Floridian, and the Mad Hatter is prominently featured around the room--from the Johnny Depp Version poster to a Disney prop designer's version of his hat.
I decided that I wanted my Orlando Bedroom to be slightly less Disney forward. I'd rather have it be inspired. My favorite ride is Expedition Everest, my favorite restaurant is Sanaa. So I'm going to go with an Indian/Tibetan theme. I'm thinking lots of bold colors/patterns in a what you would think of when looking at saris and such. I found two great pieces to start from.
I normally wouldn't be shopping before moving but there was only one of each at each store--so I was worried I wouldn't be able to find them after my move. They are safely wrapped up and already packed in the front seat of the car.
I think I'll be doing a lot of shopping at World Market and Overstock.com. I'd really like all of the pieces to come from India, but the reality is that my bookcases and dresser will likely be unfinished pieces from Ikea--which I'll paint to fit the theme.
I came home from my little shoppind excursion and got to work. I completely emptied Brandon's room--including his full size bed set and the rest of the trash.
Then I got working on my kitchen cabinets. I was taking out the trash and started talking to some of my neighbors and gave away my microwave and my rice cooker as well as my olive oil, two bottles of organic balsamic vinegar and some sea salt. It felt good to give my neighbors things I was just going to toss.
Tuesday morning I had my interview and I feel pretty good about it. Several things helped me make a personal connection with the woman interviewing me. She had worked for and eventually replaced one of my former bosses at a different Marriott property here in town and she was from New Jersey. We also talked about how crazy it was in Orlando during the NBA All Star Weekend. I think I impressed her by knowing that the Princess 1/2 marathon and the Daytona 500 were the same weekend and that I had checked in at WDW right after those events ended this year. I should hear from her by Friday!
After my interview I putzed around on the computer for awhile, but I was really tired from the previous day--I basically crawled back into bed and stayed there.
I got up early this morning and started cleaning/ packing my room and moving some things that I thought might be snapped up by my neighbors out to the street. I didn't pay close attention when I came home, but I think they are all gone.
When I got to work today the Banquet Chef told me he had a buyer for my fridge if I was willing to take $350 for it--somehow $350 is better than the $0 I was going to get leaving it behind in the apartment--so of course I said yes. He's going to pick it up on Friday.
I still have a lot of things to move out to the street--hopefully I'll be able to get that done in the next few days!
More updates will come in the following days!
Lots of Love coming everyone's way--thanks for being so supportive guys!
