The Good, The Bad and The Buggy - Nov 2011 TR - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Coop just found this report and I've been looking for it ever since you gave the title.
KUDO's for Chuck and his surprises Bet the EWP was icing on the cake.
Wasn't WAT a blast. Too bad AJ wasn't with Jason for your trek They gave each other a hard time that hasd our group in stiches when we did it. Glad the hippos and Crocs cooperated for you Hippo just stayed there for us and crocs were getting check ups. Bridges were fun and safety hook up reminded me of static line
A quick note on the Africa Trek. As I look at the pictures that we received in the mail,I realize that there was no need to bring a camera. I'm wishing I would have enjoyed the moment more, and not concentrating on capturing the moment. They have a photographer with you,and others asked him to take certain pictures. They were more than happy to make this experience special for you.I think at times I was more worried that Coop would have a great time, and conquer her fear of high things, than I was on having a great time myself. I had a ball, and next time I will relax a whole lot more.BTW to be honest,it wasn't Coop who was the only one a little tentative, I was concentrating on every step across those rope bridges. The views were breathtaking, and when you realized there were REAL crocodiles, and man-eating hippos you are really cautious. The lunch was surprising. It was so good, even the pretty flower was edible! I tried it,tasted like chicken. NO seriously it was like a crunchy lettuce,no strong taste at all.
I was one of the highlights of the trip.I'd do it again in a few years(if they still have it) See you all later.
Ok, good! My girls are 10 & 11, but will be 12 & 13 on our next planned trip. You have me scared though, I am only 4'10" and my girls are tiny too. I guess we will see.
It's not that bad. Just some big steps and concentrate - you can do it! (If I did - anyone can!) Go for it!

Love the pictures of the WAT, definitely seems like it is worth the money, what a great experience.
He's a keeper! . It is so worth the $$$. And the pics that they take and give you the CD are just awesome. You almost don't need your own camera (but I'm glad I brought one and they fixed the strap)

Hi Mike! Glad you came by to join the party! Wasn't the trek just awesome?! I was worried about the bridges but it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. Maria with Jason was also a good combo. And yep - Chuck's a keeper.

You ate the flower - I wore it! I didn't know you were tentative on the bridges. You just gave me a hard time about going over crocs and hippos. But D and Amber told me that those crocs were just animatronic! LOL

He's going to get a big head. (but he is a sweetie)
After the WAT was over, we walked through AK trying to decide what to do next. We went up to Camp Minnie/Mickey to try to catch FOTLK. We were about 10 mins too late or 50 mins too early (which ever way you want to look at it) for the show. We didn’t want to hang around all that time so we had to re-group. Chuck didn’t feel like riding EE right then either so we just decided to head back to BLT.
We checked out the pool and hot tub for a bit
It was nice but this is where we started to notice them. The bugs. Little gnat type bugs that were all over the place. They were on the chairs by the pool (among other places). I chalked it up to being by the lake or maybe they didn’t spray that am. Were they going to be a fixture in this vacation? Stay tuned. After a brief swim, including a trip down the slide (Chuck thought I would scream and even had a side bet with the lifeguard - hahaha) we showered and changed and went to the Contempo Café for a snack (and yes- we did use snack credits!) and our refillable mugs.
WARNING : FOOD PICS COMING UP!!
Chuck got a Mickey ice cream bar - first of the trip and I had a red velvet cupcake.
I read somewhere that there is a cupcake around The World thing - that would so be much more my style than drinking around The World.
After dropping our mugs back off at the room, we caught a bus to DHS. (Anytime I say DHS - Chuck thinks I’m talking about the kids old high school -- same initials - lol). We didn’t have a real plan of action, but Chuck wanted to ride TOT. I took the chicken exit. I had my adventure for the day and I can’t stand elevators! It was a short wait, maybe about 10 mins max? After TOT, Chuck went on RnRC SRL as I don’t do rollercoasters. I waited for him the gift shop and I got a tee shirt and he found a pair of fuzzy dice for my Mini Coop. I was all about the shopping in DHS. I was specifically looking for the OPI Muppet nail polish and thought they may have it somewhere in DHS but nope. Not even in the Muppet gift shop! Go figure. We left the Studios early because I had to take out my contacts and change shoes before our dinner ressies at Artist Point. My feet and my eyes were hurting. Ah the blessings of annual passes. You can visit a park for an hour or two and not have to worry about "wasting a day".
So back to BLT it was and after a quick change of shoes and eyewear, we went to the dock to catch the boat to WL for our 6:30 dinner. We got to Artist Point with a few mins to spare and we were taken right to our table. No pager, no wait. I had the camera on the table and did I remember pics - NO. hahaha. I got the apps and the dessert. Missed the steak and Chuck had swordfish which was yummy. Chuck made me try it. Now, I’m not a seafood person but it was yummy. Chuck had fun making me try bites of things I would never normally eat. (and I will point these out along the way) Chuck had the crab cake app while I had this wonderful mixed green salad with shaved asian pear. Entrées were the swordfish and I had the beef tenderloin and a very nice cabernet to go with it. Dessert for me was berry cobbler with homemade berry icecream and Chuck had the crème brulee and coffee. He wanted to try this chocolate dessert because it had salted chocolate ice cream but he also really wanted the crème brulee, so he got the crème brulee. BUT our waiter snuck out a scoop of the salted chocolate ice cream for us to try anyway! SCORE!
Mixed green salad with shaved asian pear.
Crab cake
Salted chocolate ice cream
Creme Brulee
Berry cobbler
After we had taken care of the bill, we went to the lobby of WL since this was our first visit there. Very nice! We checked out the lobby and the gift shop then made our way to the bus stop. We took the bus to MK and walked back to BLT. We were in bed before 11 pm.
Next: Saturday at F&WF - what were we thinking?!?!?!
