Spooky Foodie Fun - TR from Adventurous Stranger!! - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! So sorry the candy was skimpy! When we went in October 2009, we brought home 3 gallon size Ziploc bags full of candy. How awesome that you could totally fool Jack Sparrow himself. Great Hallowishes pictures!
Great fun so far!!
I'm thinking I'd like to spend a night in those beds they way you talked about them.
Do you know how long SWSA is supposed to be open? We're leaving a week from tomorrow and I'd love to ride it one last time.
The walls...I'm not going to like them, I just know it. I'm not big into change. Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to the new Fantasyland, but I'm not going to like the in between time. (spoiled, I know )
Great fireworks shots, and good for you sticking up for yourself and the little ones around you.
They were honestly the most amazing beds EVER!! We actually made time for afternoon naps they were that good! Yes, prepare yourself for the walls it's quite alarming. SWSA is not scheduled to close until early in the year (so I've heard). It was amazing how many people were clueless as to others around them; stopping short and doing an about face was quite common along with walking in front of pictures, cutting in line and general rudeness. I was also shocked at the amount of trash dropped on the ground!

I was very proud of my costume when he said that! I was like a little kid on Christmas when we recieved the swag, dare I say I felt like a celebrity??

It is so cool to be in Magic Kingdom and dressed like a character, especially when folks ask to take pics with you!

Ha ha ha. Wondering if we shared the same garbage can. In Jack's defense, it was rather dark and the lights were behind her. It was also pretty funny!

It was a great first day! I would recommend going to a party the first night, it made it an extra special arrival. The blisters became unbareable throughout the stay, luckily I always pack moleskin and mini scissors - this was the first time I've ever had to use it!

Can’t wait to hear about your PftS experience! But how come we didn’t get a swag bag?!
The scent was gone after the first wash. I actually slept in the shirt once and it was nice having that sweet scent to fall asleep with. You didn't get a bag? Were you in Wine View Lounge? Maybe they only pass them out there.

We did! Couldn't stop laughing at the looks we got especially when we were together on the Speedway and Dumbo. There were some really great costumes as well. I fell in love with the Grand Poobaas from the Flintsones.

I overheard a few people commenting on how they cut back this year. Honestly, we averaged three pieces at each stop. Um, I give out more at Halloween!! I was impressed with myself after recieving he complement!

Despite the late night, I was up at 8:30am. Must have been those incredible beds that gave us a great night's sleep! Em was still snoozing so I brewed a cup of STARBUCK'S decaf (I am very sensitive to caffeine but trust me I miss it!) and took my exchange voucher for my Annual Pass downstairs to Guest Services. It was early so I was able to walk right up and chat with the CMs behind the desk. We were all former Yankees and we talked about how much we loved Florida's warm weather and despite the rain it was still better than snow! Oh yeah, how are my Northeast PPers today? How 'bout that snowfall huh?
Donald Duck AP in hand, walked around the lobby, past the Mandara Spa (never did get there but that's A-OK), checked out the shop windows just enjoying the morning and the fact I wasn't racing to work! I LOVE VACATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back up in the room, I woke Em up and we got geared up for our first trip to a Disney waterpark! Amazingly light packing when going to TL. Let's see.... bathing suits, cover ups, watershoes, PP pouches with AP, ID, CC and chapstick. I had brought an underwater camera with me but I forgot it in the room, boy did I regret that!
We reached the bus stop just at the bus was pulling up. We arrived at TL within 10 minutes, purchased our tix (AP discount $4 each), picked up some towels ($2 each which was a steal if you figure out how much space a beach towel takes up in a suitcase) and rented a small locker AND still had to wait 5 minutes for the 10am rope drop.
We decided to experience Shark Reef first thing so we wouldn't be too rushed thru the tank. We donned our masks, snorkels and lifejackets and slid into the salt water. The water was a little cool but not bone chilling. I was glad I wore my Land's End water shoes because Em said the bottom was a wee bit slimy! There is a small area in the water that allows you to stand while putting your face in the water and get used to the snorkel before shoving off into the deep water.
Once we were floating, I immediately started to hyperventilate! It was really deep and LOADED with fish! Small and big fish! Then there are the stingrays and sharks swimming freely below you! The water is clean but it's still creepy especially with the "sunken" upside down tanker in the middle! About halfway across, I began to breathe normally and take it all in. I WAS SWIMMING WITH SHARKS! Granted, they are bonnet sharks (small, about 3-4 feet) and fed 5x daily so they won't snack on your toes but still... It was wild! As soon as I reached the far side and made it up the steps I was ready to go again! Em agreed and we asked if we could just walk back thru the queue and go once more. No problem, so we practically ran around and entered the water again. This time was much easier and I allowed myself to just float and look around more. A large fish that was multicolored swam up to me and kinda freaked me out. There are so many stingrays (stingers are clipped over at Rafiki's Conservation Station so they can't whack you) and the sharks were breathtaking - literally! If you ever do this, I recommend the lifejacket so you are bouyant and don't have to tread or swim and able to really take it all in. VERY COOL!
After Shark Reef, we walked over to the Storm Slides which are body slides, FAST body slides. Em and I each chose one and after being told to keep feet and arms crossed, we shoved off. WOW! was that fast! Total Fun! Just fair warning... suit bottoms don't stand a chance as you exit the slide and enter the pool at the bottom! Hope there aren't underwater cameras if so, they got a full view of our heineys!! A quick wardrobe adjustment before exiting the pool was required!
After that fiasco, we opted out of Humunga Kowabunga. No wedgies for us thank you!
We took the mountain trail up near Mt. Mayday to get a spectacular view of the park. It's a beautiful walk with waterfalls and cool themeing. Again wished I had remembered the camera!! Once over the "mountain" we stopped by Gang Plank Falls which is a huge round raft that can accomodate several people. The raft spins around and goes under some pretty big waterfalls, the only attraction were got wetter on was the wave pool!
After that, we grabbed a two person tube at Castaway Creek and used it as our main mode of transportation throughout the day. We got out by the entrance and made our way over to the Crush n Gusher water rollercoaster. There are three different options here. We first did the Pineapple Plunger in a two person raft that we hauled up three flights of stairs. Em sat in front while I, the heavier of the two as they put it, sat behind. Then off we went. Down hills, around turns, up hills, more turns - all propelled by water. Then it shoots you out over the exit pool. We were laughing so hard that we had difficulty getting off the raft! We immediately got back in line, grabbed another two person raft and back up the stairs we went to try out the Coconut Crusher. WooHoo! I haven't experienced a ride like that at a park in a long time. So neat to be in a raft and racing around like you're on a coaster! As soon as we exited the pool, yep, we ran around again! Just as we were about to grab our raft, the water on the rides stopped and the announcement was made that a storm was moving in and all guests had to exit the water until it passed.
Since it looked like it had been threatening to rain all morning, we figured the waterpark was our best bet. We'd be wet anyway right? At that point it wasn't even noon yet and we'd already done half the park! As it began to rain, we figured it was time for an AB! Turns out, finding an AB at TL while it's raining is no easy feat. All the outdoor vending areas are closed during storms - silly safety thing. We finally asked a CM coordinating the closures where one would happen to find an AB and were directed to the Leaning Palms counter service area. As folks were running for cover, we were running for the beer! Em got a Bud Lite while I tried the Hurricane Reef Amber. It was ok but once we camped out under a palm tree across from wave pool to ride out the rain, the beer started tasting better! The rain let up for bit so we sat on the beach with our beer to wait until they announced it was safe to back in the water. Suddenly, the skies opened up and had us running back to the palm tree. It lasted about half an hour and we walked around the beach and decided to kick it Ariel style on the rocks near the water.
After about an hour we were given the go ahead to return to the water and we decided to give the world's largest wave pool a try.
We waded out past the wave break area and treaded water until we heard the WHOOSH! of the wave being generated and the yells went out as everyone prepared for the wave. We attemped to body surf but got wiped out instead! We're not quitters so we swam out a little further and waited for the next wave. Again, we were taken out! Determined or stupid, we tried again only to get smashed by the wave again. Ok, ok, we got the idea and we got out exhausted!
Back to Castaway Creek and towards Mayday Falls. Mayday Falls is a solo tube ride that was way too fast and way too bumpy. I even jammed my foot as it slammed into the wall, spun my tube around and sent me flying down the slide backwards. Not my cup of tea! What was my cup of tea? The slide next door, Keelhaul Falls. It was much slower and controlled.
We returned to Castaway Creek to take us over to the Crush n Gusher one last time. We had to finish the trifecta of slides. We saved the best one for last because the Banana Blaster was a riot!! Faster and with more hills than the other two, you really get to fly up the sides of the tubes. Fantastic!!
By this point is was after 2pm and we had experienced all of the park (except the kiddie area). We emptied out the locker, returned the key and towels and took the bus back to the hotel for showers and vino!
Final thoughts on Typhoon Lagoon: Why had I waited so long to make it over there??? The theme of the aftermath of a hurricane was perfect. There were tons of chairs for relaxing and several places to snack or have a full meal (no table service available) Crush n Gusher was simply amazing and a whole lot of fun. Shark Reef was my favorite and wish we had gone one more time and I really wish I had remembered the underwater camera. I don't think I'd visit during the summer months for fear it would be too crowded. We didn't wait for any attractions other than the Crush n Gusher and that was just a few minutes wait to pick up your raft. The weather really didn't bother us and it was a good idea to ride it out. Our only negative experience was on Castaway Creek which would seem like a place to relax and just float around the park, unfortunately it was inhabited by folks that felt the need to push their tubes into yours, yell at each other and make it a not very relaxing experience. I'll definitely be back to TL rather than try out BB since TL seems to have calmer rides rather than the big dog slides at BB.
I apologize for the lack of photos, my idiot self forgot the waterproof camera, oh well, next time!
Next up: The Swan & Dolphin Food & Wine Classic and the Monsoon begins!
Glad to hear you had a great day at TL Good thinking about consequences of Humanga Kowabunga. At least you got in a full day Shark Reef is a blast and I"ll do it again next time we go didn't want to push my luck too far tis trip and we only spent a half day there.
As for Trash can in hub As you face the castle it was on left about mid way around the hub not far fro entrance to Frontier Land

Haha, our trash can was on the left as well. Think between 10 & 11 o'clock if the castle is 12.

Ugh, snow here before Halloween, it's crazy I tell ya! Atleast I have warmer weather to look forward to next week in WDW!!
Typhoon Lagoon sounds fun! I haven't been there since 1994. I don't think Shark Reef was there back then, but I wish it was. Sounds amazing! I do remember that wave pool though, I got crushed by a few waves myself. One actually slammed me down on the bottom of the pool, giving me a nice scrape on the side of my foot. Ouch! Lucky for me a cute lifeguard was nearby to save the day and escort me to first aid
We love Typhoon Lagoon - especially Crushin Gusher! I was expecting the Aquaduck on the Dream to be more like it.
We do also like Blizzard Beach, but not as much as TL.
Yeah, the weather up here is great...thanks for asking.
TL is the water park that I would choose to visit, if we ever get there. I think when Jason is just a little bigger and a little more competent in the water. I haven't been there since my senior trip in HS in 1986!!
I am finally caught up and made it over!! I said this to you in my TR but you live like 20 minutes from me So hello neighbor!!! I went to cheddars two weeks ago for lunch and I'm going friday for a work lunch I love that place...we had them when I lived in TN. Anyway, wow your jack costume is amazing! I'm so glad you stayed in the Dolphin because Eric nagged me with questions the whole time we were at Kouzzinas and I have no idea about those two properties! I love the MNSSHP...I'm sorry you had a not so great time. I did get tons and tons of candy when I went three years ago. It was amazing the amount we brought home! But, like you said it was very crowded there! I love TL and BB...I tried to talk Eric into going to one this time around but we passed. I usually go to one when I visit my best friend down there! Glad I'm caught up! cant wait to read more!
