The trip with an ulterior motive (Spet 3-10)- PTR - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

A tip on evening pool time. Pack yourselves some plastic wine glasses and tote a bottle with you. If wine's not your thing, bring something else. There are lots of places to relax in the evening (especially LATE evening) and it is so nice to enjoy the pool to yourselves.

I am definitely a wine person! That is an awesome idea

Target has awesome plastic wine glasses that you could use for this evening! I'm sad that you've bailed on Victoria and Albert's as it is an amazing meal!

Now that my computer is fixed, its time to get back into this PTR! As promised in my last long post, its time to achieve some goals! Our 3rd full day at Disney finally brings us to MK for a dedicated full day of exploring and enjoying all of the rides. As mentioned in an earlier post, DS was about 2 inches too short for many rides on our last trip. Well as is usually the case, in 2 years, he has managed to grow those 2 inches and then some. His entire goal for the next Disney trip was to be able to ride the following rides on his next trip: Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mtn, Space Mtn. It appears this trip he is going to be tall enough to achieve his goal for all 3
My initial plan is to get to MK in time for Rope Drop. On our last trip, a delay in buses made us 5 minutes late for the rope drop ceremony Not this time! We are going to allow plenty of time in the morning to ensure we are there in time.
The rest of the day will be spent bee-bopping around the park riding whatever rides have the shortest lines. I am hoping that since we are just past Labor Day weekend and most schools are in session that lines will be very small if not non-existent on most rides. For lunch we are just doing CS as I am not a huge fan of most of the TS in MK (the kiddos don’t want to do CP because Pooh and Friends just aren’t their thing). Last trip we did Pecos Bills, but I am not sure if that is where we will eat this time. Most likely it will be determined based on where we are in the park when we get hungry.
We do have an evening reservation at Kouzzina that I am extremely excited for! Greek is one of my favorite types of food and Cat Cora is one of my favorite Food Network chefs! Our reservation is for 6:50 and MK closes at 9pm that night so we will most likely make it an early night after dinner and try and get some sleep (by this point in the trip we will need it).
Up next…..a bit of mania mixed with saving the universe from the evil empire!

Sounds like a great day! I hope you get to make it to rope drop this time. We've never been able to make it there on time, its one of our goals for our next trip too! You're going to LOVE Kouzzina! We ate there last November and it was so yummy! It was my first experience with Greek food, but we were there with my aunt who has been to Greece many times and loves the food. She said it was some of the best she's had!
Great MK plans! I'm still wanting to try Kouzzina's so I'll be interested in what you have to say after you all eat here.
I love greek so it is definitely one of the meals that I am looking forward too on the trip

Good to know that someone who has been to Greece even loves it!

I agree, I'd rather go CS in MK (hello Caseys! / even like the veggie burger at Cosmic Rays). Tony's wasn't bad but I work at two Italian restaurants so the last thing I want is Italian!!
It amazes me how busy the “lazy days of summer” can get! Every week seems to go by without me accomplishing all that I need to. At this point we are just about 5 weeks out from our trip and to be honest I feel frantic for this trip. At this point in our last trip I had so much more organized and together as far as planning for packing. I really need to buckle down one of these days and get a lot more together that we need for our trip…..may require a day off work ……..not that I am complaining about that
So last week we had the whole debacle with our Kouzzina reservation….and evidently I wasn’t the only one. Unfortunately time has not allowed for me to be able to call and straighten things out while the reservation line was open. While I really want to eat at Kouzzina, it was a hard choice between it and Whispering Canyon way back in the beginning. Just to be safe, I ended up changing our reservation to WCC. I would rather eat there and be very happy (I have heard nothing but great things) than show up at Kouzzina with a reservation that really is messed up and no table for us that night. Not to mention, since that is a MK night for us, this allows us to stay in the park a few more minutes than we would have been able to in order to travel to Kouzzina. I am also very curious to check out WL as well
As for the next day in our trip, it will be our DHS day!! I have to admit that on our last trip we only had 1 day in each park and by the time we got to DHS we were exhausted and left at like 1pm that day and missed SO much!! This time around I have planned better and allowed for free time to relax throughout the week in order to be able to truly enjoy every park this time around.
For DHS we have a few must-dos on our list that I am hoping to accomplish. Jedi Academy and TSMM will be the first stops of the day. The plan is for DH and I to split up with one signing the kids up for Jedi Academy and the other booking it to TSMM for Fast Passes. Hopefully we can accomplish both of these tasks!
This trip the backlot tour will be shutdown for refurbishment so that ride has come off our list, but in its place is the Great Movie ride, which we missed last time around. With DS being 4, going to see Lightning and Mater are requirements as well DD has requested as many trips on ToT as possible….she wants to beat her record of 7 in one day on this trip…..I say DH can help with that one and I will just go shopping
In the evening we have reservations at 50s PT and I am really looking forward to it! The food sounds delicious and the atmosphere sounds even better. The best part of this day though is in the evening. Last trip we didn’t get to see Fantasmic, and it just so happens that it is showing this night….YIPPEE!!! So hopefully we can get good seats and end the night on a great night!
