"This is Not the Trip You're Looking For" TR May/June 2011 - COMPLETE - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm glad you're doing the TR, Cathy! I can understand how you felt after the trip; I felt the same way after our last family trip. But reliving the trip through the report will help you see that among the grumbles, you really did have a good time!
Tea at GF is something I have never gotten to do. Been taking my Dnephews last few years and they said no. But now that my Dgds are getting old enough to do things like that it looks very interesting. So glad your experience was a great one there after some of the stress. I have had to make lemonade from the lemons that I was handed while on a WDW trip, all the planning I did just couldn't take in account some of the stuff that came along.

Hey, I wanna have tea at the GF too!!! That looks perfect in just about every way. MUST DO GF TEA, note to self.
OK, so things seem to be going good so far, yes?
It looks like tea was very nice. Did the girls like the tea? My sister is taking my niece to Tea at GF in October so I'll have to direct her over to your trip report for your description.
i remember worrying about y'all on the day you left. i also remembering having the sense that something wasn't "right" when we finally met up at MK. now i think i might know why....
I had a feeling you all could sense that, too, Sheri. It worried me the rest of the trip!

I think we're going to have to plan to do that together in the future.

Beautiful photos of the GF lobby and tea. Your girls look like perfect little ladies! I always order exactly what you had for tea... wish I were there right now! (So funny to have Maleficent try to cut in line. Was she having tea solo?)
No - she was there with her husband. I actually looked through our photos to see if there was one with the two of them in the background, but unfortunately there isn't.

Oh - don't put it off! Make it a special occasion and go to tea. You will fall in love with GF for sure.

There's always next time...and you'll probably enjoy it even more when you're well rested.

More please.
The girls loved the tea experience. As for the actual tea, Cory loved hers as she is used to having a cup every once in awhile. Kelley, who had never had any, found it a bit different that she expected, but she sipped hers throughout the entire time. I think she would have liked our variety better, but I guess it's an acquired taste after all.
I am so glad you got to enjoy the tea, I know this has been on your list for awhile. You had the same tea I tried...something about the vanilla and strawberries just sounded so good (and it was pretty good, espeically since I am not a tea fan). My favorite though was the strawberries and cream and I see that it was your choice as well. I think I could come to the tea just for that
Glad that Kevin came for the experience and enjoyed as well - loved his cappacino.
I remembered all that from your TR...which is probably why I ordered what I did!

My DH and I had Tea there for the first time this past trip. I think I got what y'all got as the offerings looked the same and the descriptions sounded the same. It was delicious, especially those strawberries. YUMMY!!
I think the Grand Floridian is one of the most beautiful resorts anywhere! You could spend an entire day there doing a photo shoot and still not see it all.

I can just see your beautiful family having tea there.
Yes, so far, so good...But there's more to come. Guess it's like a book - you have to have some conflict in order for the story to have a beginning, middle and end.
I've been following along on this TR, but just had to comment. We had Afternoon Tea on our trip 7 years ago, and seeing the pictures of your strawberries and cream still makes my mouth water. They are soooo good. It was an enjoyable experience for us too.
As a fellow Star Wars fan, I can't wait to hear what's next. Hopefully you're starting to see more of the good and remember less of the bad. Btw, our wedding also featured Star Wars. Our wedding recessional song was the Throne Room song from A New Hope. The people who knew what it was from thought it was so cool we were using Star Wars music. And those who didn't, just thought it was a nice song.
I'm just catching up Cathy. I'm so sorry that your trip ended up less than magical. I've also had some less than perfect vacations and as you know with time the good memories are the ones you will remember most. I think that we have such high expectations with a Disney vacation that it is sometimes hard for the actual trip to live up to what we've been dreaming and planning about for so long. Especially when your previous trip was such a great one!
I'm so happy that you've decided to share your trip with us and so far aside from getting a bit behind schedule things are going well. Your tea sounded wonderful, I love all the pictures from the GF! We've never had a meal there, but it's on my wish list for the next trip (after this summer's.) I'm looking forward to more!!

I'm glad you decided to write your TR; I'm really enjoying reading it so far...
I hate that this trip did not live up to it's expectations; but it sounds like you had a safe drive there; despite the late start and your afternoon tea sounds great.
