The Great Procrastination PTR--Trip in Aug. 2011 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thanks for the encouragement and the good wishes for Jack. He's over it. He had a great day with his Dad and his cousin and their go-karts.
I've done nothing in regard to the trip in a few days. I haven't even been on the boards...This means that I still haven't called AAA.
I'm wondering if you can help me. I'll post this somewhere else, too, but here's what I'm looking for.
Does anyone know of a book for little kids about going to the airport and getting on a plane? I'd like to get one for the kids because they've never flown before.
Don't know how much this will help regard kids but STARBRIGHT had a post and mentioned a book "Flying Without Fear" by Duane Brown. She says it helped her immensely with her fear of flying It explains what is happenning with bird during flight and explains what you feel Hope it hels or maybe puts yoou on a track towards what you need

I got two books for the kids about flying on a plane: Going on a Plane by Anne Civardi and My First Trip on an Airplane by Vic Parker.
My cousin is a librarian and she did a little research for me and gave me a list of books that might be appropriate. I ordered the first two I could find on Amazon and it worked out really well. One of the books is more expository, which appeals to my son. The other is more narrative, which appeals to my daughter. I recommend both.
I've been away on a school field trip all week so there is no other planning to discuss. We bring our seventh graders to a summer camp for four days and three nights. It's an amazing experience for everyone involved, but it takes its toll on me. This week end will be all about relaxing for the 9 days of school I have left.
Jack had another run in with the neighbor boy. Jack was over there playing and when the kid's mom went inside, the boy began a sand fight. They had already been yelled at for throwing sand at one another. Jack didn't retaliate because that's really not his nature. Because he didn't retaliate, he got clobbered. The poor kid had so much sand thrown at him, he swallowed a fair bit, had it up his nose and in his eyes. I was in the front yard with Anna and I heard Jack crying. I didn't immediately jump up because he cries a little too much over little things sometimes. But he kept crying. So I called for him to come home. When I saw him I was angry. He was obviously in distress. He was wretching with sand.
I went and got him and brought him home. The dad was at the pool. He couldn't see the sand fight, but he could hear the boys and he was way closer than I was. The mom didn't come out of the house until I had opened the gate, pulled my son out, stopped to let him puke up more sand, and then was half way home.
Yeah. I know that Jack cries a bit much, but it was more than crying.
They never apologized. The dad has been over a couple of times to see my husband, but he has never apologized or even asked how Jack made out. My husband has been polite, but not friendly. The mom volunteers with the school's PTO and she was at Jack's school for field day. She offered him a high-five.
Jack doesn't want to play over there anymore, which is a good thing, too because he is not allowed to play over there. There is another little boy who lives at the end of our street and he's not allowed to play over there either.
Now I have to find something to do next weekend because it's the kid's birthday party and I don't want Jack to be around for that...Yikes
Thanks for all the support with our neighbor issues! I really hate that it's not working out, but it isn't. Maybe it will, again, in a little while. If it doesn't, I'm not sure any of us will be heart broken.
On the planning front, I did forget to mention something. Geri is going to take care of the prizes for the scavenger hunt. We decided that there should be prizes for the winners, but other prizes, too (runner up, Miss Congeniality, etc.). I'm excited that someone other than myself is excited about the scavenger hunt, too.
I have to call AAA this week. I should have time at work to get it done...We'll see.

LOVE that you have such a nice family trip planned! I hope to one day have a trip like that!
Sorry for the neighbors...I just wonder what some people are thinking! People like that make me want to be a hermit...maybe a hermit in the Disney bubble? lol
Good luck with the planning and I hope AAA gets their act together for you!
I finally got around to calling AAA today. I took the day off to go to dd's pre-school closing ceremony. Too cute for words. I had some time this afternoon.
Instead of dealing with the Boston office, I called the 800 number and was transferred to the voice mail of the original woman who took our original reservation. She called me back later this afternoon.
The only hiccup was on my behalf. I thought I had the Grand Gathering number my sister had given me, but when I reached into my Passporter to find it, it wasn't there! The flight confirmation and the paper work from AAA was there, but nothing regarding the grand gathering number.
I now have the woman's name, Josephine, and her email. This way when my sister calls me tonight with the number I just have to email her and it will be done.
She's arranging for Magical Express for us. When I told her about how crazy our flights were, she suggested I try Jet Blue. I then told her that we paid less than $700 for the four of us. She said that perhaps we could just live with the crazy.
I've been sending the little hints and facts to my family; although, I'm a bit behind. I'll catch up because I've only got four more days of school before vacation!
I feel good about the AAA exchange today. The next thing to do is to send her the Grand Gathering number and then link our dining reservations to our confirmation number.
That can wait until next week...or the week after.
