Patience, My Young Padawan PTR - UPDATED 5/25 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just took a look at your party ideas and I think you are extremely creative. Sounds like your son is going to have the coolest party ever.
You actually gave me an idea...we usually do several "Dinner and a Disney Movie" nights to help countdown 'til we leave. I'll have trivia or games for us to get everyone excited about the trip. Now I think I will be planning a 'JediTraining Academy' night before our trip and use some of the ideas in your thread.

Do you that we'll miss each other by a few weeks?
Grrrrrr!!!! I can't believe it....(I may have to start looking at your trip schedules before I plan ours.) Or maybe I'm just going to have to start running the Marathons...

I'm glad to hear we're not the only crazy couple to have done something like that.
Plans look great! I'm crossing my fingers and sending and dust that you all get one more day!

Thanks everyone! Looks like all the pixies worked on one thing - Kevin agreed to add an extra park day to our tickets so we can go to the parks on our first afternoon there! Now I just need to convince him one more day at the end wouldn't hurt.
Another comment I forgot to add above...I am really looking forward to y our review of POR. For us to go during SWW in 2012 we will need to look at mods instead of deluxe. POR is the only choice for a family of 5, but I am a bit concerned about feeling squished and cramped in there.
Shelly, I can answer that question now.
On our very first trip, we stayed at POR Alligator Bayou as there was five of us (me, DH, oldest DD who was 17 and then the two little girls 9 and 7.) We did fine - although neither of the little girls would use the trundle bed and the 17 yr. old ended up sleeping there. It was a tight fit for her, but she said it was better than being kicked and pummeled by her little sisters all night!
We had planned on taking an air mattress last trip if Alexa came with us, so we'd all be more comfortable sleeping.
The room itself is small - but since we didn't spend a great deal of time there, it worked fine for us with five. Your kids are a lot younger, so it probably won't feel as crowded. For us, it was really 3 adults and 2 kids size-wise.
What a great title and theme for your trip report!
Your daughters are beautiful! The pictures of your wedding and your family are precious!
Your plans look great! I do hope you are able to get another day added on!
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Love your plans...I can understand your family's love of POR, it is definitely one of our favorites, and up until last year we never even really thought of trying another resort. My sister is staying at Coronado Springs when we meet up so I am excited to see that resort but I don't know if it will beat the atmosphere of POR for us.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get that extra day

Thanks for the feedback. I am sure it would be my son (then 10) on the trundle. He will NOT want to share a bed with either of his sisters! Our last trip was at BC and we still got cramped at the end of our stay. We may try to do a split stay with 6 days at POR and 3 or 4 at a deluxe if I can get the discounts we had last trip. Since we have to fly and cannot get to WDW often, longer trips are best for us--but not if we are all short on personal space middway through!

You could look into renting DVC points. I'm not sure what the price is compared to paying cash for a deluxe, but it might be something to look at and compare.

I have complex comparison charts with all my options! LOL! I am not comfortable taking my chances with private rentals or lacking the ability to speak directly to a CM about my ressie. Going with an "official" point rental site (with a higher cost but more security), I would not come out much better than directly though WDW with a discount. And reserving through disney would get me mousekeeping and control over my ressie.

Celebrations! We’ve got a lot of them this trip. First and foremost, it’s obviously about the 15th wedding anniversary. That means Kevin and I will be wearing our ‘Anniversary’ buttons for the entire trip. Matching Mouse Ears would be nice but I may be pushing it if I buy us a pair!
Our past trips in September, we’ve always celebrated Cory’s birthdays at WDW (her birthday is Oct 3) and I’ve always felt Kelley was left out. Although she said she didn’t mind and doesn’t want to wear The Birthday Button, I can tell she is a bit envious of all the special attention Cory garners while we’re there. So since Kelley’s birthday is in April, I thought we could let her share in some of the attention. Unbeknownst to her, I have scheduled a couple ADRs with her as the Guest of Honor.
Corinne, however, who loves to be the center of attention, was feeling left out - so I have promised that she can be the Birthday Girl for one day.
I also tried to schedule a few extra-special things for each of us.
So…on with the food!
Our arrival day begins with a special treat – Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Lounge! This is something the girls have wanted to do ever since we first heard about it. I’m not certain if we’ll treat this as a light tea of go for something more substantial for an early dinner. Kevin has asked a couple times, “Is this tea-thing for all of us?” so I’m not sure if he may decide to skip it and do his own thing.
The next morning starts with another special activity. For our anniversary gift, I scheduled Kevin for the Around the World at Epcot Segway Tour. World Showcase is Kevin’s absolutely favorite place at WDW. He’ll talk about it all the time :”I’d love to be walking around World Showcase right now…sigh.” So I thought it would be the perfect gift for him. Plus, it gives Kelley, Corinne and I two hours of girl-time to do whatever we want! Dinner this evening is Chefs de France. Here’s we’ll be surprising Kelley by honoring her as the birthday girl. (She has dreams of being a chef and owning her own restaurant someday.)
Sunday is all about one thing – SWW! Well, two things really. It is also our do-or-die opportunity to finally see Fantasmic! With that in mind, we have the F! Dining Package at Mama Melrose’s. Again, this is all about Kelley as Italian is her favorite food group (!) and we’ll do another birthday for her here.
Monday we’ll be dining at Liberty Tree Tavern once again, our only repeat dining of this trip. Kevin and the girls requested this one, even though I really wanted to do CP. I think maybe it was the atmosphere and the comfort of familiar Thanksgiving food that makes this a favorite. I believe Corinne will celebrate her ‘half-birthday’ here.
Next evening is Yak & Yeti. This is another restaurant we’ve all been dying to try – yet at the same time, I’m torn between this or Sanaa. Since we didn’t have the best of experiences at Boma last trip, I am anxious to get back over to AKL and give it another shot. We talked about it though, and know we just NEED to do Y&Y this trip; it’s been ‘calling’ us since we first saw it.
June 1 – the Big Day – we’ll have an anniversary dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse. This one is really for Kevin, as I know how much he looks forward to a great steak. We’re really excited to go here – and I’m hoping we don’t fill up too much so we could sneak in some Beaches & Cream for a very late dessert.
Finally, we’ll be back to Ohana for our Farewell breakfast the following morning. Oh, I guess this is another repeat dining experience as we all loved our meal here, loved the characters and LOVED the Poly!
And, we are hoping to be meeting up with some wonderful PPers at various times this trip. No set plans yet, but we’ll be working on it!
