Dairy Farmers wife is getting a "Dream" trip! - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great plans so far!! I'm so glad to see a trip report for the Disney Cruise and I can't wait to read all you posts!
We have done 2 Disney cruises and I'll share a few tips.
1) check the daily Navigator for show times and character meet times. The characters meet all over the ship and on Castaway Cay too! And in different outfits too so you could have Sailor Mickey, Pirate Mickey, Tuxedo Mickey, and Bathing Suit Mickey!
2) Pirate night is a blast! Don't forget to get up on the pool deck after your second seating dinner to see the show and fireworks!
3)Nassau is pretty dirty. I wouldn't get off the boat unless you have an excursion planned. If Claire likes the dolphins, we found the Dolphin Encounter to be a good value. The price wasn't too bad and you got in the water and interacted with the dolphins. It wasn't actually swimming with the dolphins but all in all a very good value - I'd do it again.
4) Water and soda is all free on board and on CC so I wouldn't worry too much about bringing water on. The beer, however, would be good to bring along. We brought in a suitcase of Bud and kept some on ice in one of the sinks. My daughter is older than Claire, but she had a blast going up to the pool deck and getting ice to refill the sink.
5) How old is Claire? My daughter was 8 on our first cruise and she LOVED the kids club!! She stayed until closing every night! It was a nice break for my husband and I. We went to the clubs each night and enjoyed some alone time.
I hope you have a great trip and I look forward to reading all about it!!
Thanks so much for the tips. My Claire is 6. She is very excited.
I just know 3 nights isn;t going to be nearly enough time, but we wil lmake do with what we got.
I have been to Nassua once, and it was just OK. We do have an excursion booked at this point and time, but am keeping it a surprise for the TR. I can't give away all my plans!
We still have 15 days till we leave. I am pretty much packed now, with a few more things to throw in and a few things I need to do also, but for the most part we are ready! Well I am at least!

April 3rd will be the day we have to leave the ship. Boo Hoo. I already know that we will not have nearly enough time on the boat. I am really hoping Skip likes it enough to want to go back in the future.
We will have late seating for breakfast (which I'm not exactly sure what time it is, but I know it's pretty early) and then have to leave. I have heard that disembarking for a few of the early voyages has been long. So if we see a line, I am going to stroll around rather than stand and wait.
After we get through customs, we will head to the shuttle pick up and back to the Residence Inn to pick up our car.
We are then off to Pop Century....for one night.
I'm not sure how fast we will get there or if our room will be ready.
So we will kind of play it by ear. I am hoping...knock on wood...that Claire falls back to sleep in the way over from the Port. She will need all the extra sleep she can get.
I'm not going to make any definite plans, but we might go for a quick Swim, maybe eat lunch...just all up in the air. But hopefully by early afternoon we will be heading over to MK.
It is probably going to be extremely packed. I know the week we are going is Spring break for a lot of schools. But we'll manage. I want to try a dole whip, or something along those lines from that place since I have yet to. We also want to try and meet a few characters. AND get lots of photopass pictures.
Here's where I kind of goofed up.
I booked CRT for 9:30 that night.
That is fine for us, we'll eat snacks beforehand. But I didn't look at the MSEP schedule or Wishes schedule. I beleive the parade starts at 9 and wishes at 10...which means we will miss both. I am not sure about the parade anyways, but I still would've like to maybe give it a try. I really love Spectro and the videos of this parade kind of irritate me. I hate the music dor one, I will keep checking to see if I can move the dinner up earlier, but I'm sure the chances are very slim.
Claire will be wearing her Cinderella dress to dinner.
After dinner we will have the chance to stay as late as 2 AM. We'll play it by ear, but that is usually when you can get on the rides fairly easy. And since this will be our only shot at MK, I want to try and do as much has possible. Skip loves the EMH at Mk, which is why we are staying at Pop this night. (We do love Pop too though)
After MK, we head back to Pop and drift off to dream land.
Things just can't ever go as planned...at least in the past 2 years at our house!
Skips brother broke his leg about 3 weeks ago. He and Skip are partners on the Dairy farm, so one of them has to be able to work at all times. When it happened, Skip said, he "may" not be able to go on the trip, but he was sure his brother would be on the mend by the time we left. After all, Skip had his hip replaced...twice...and got to back to work in less time.
On Wed., Skip came in for lunch and said he saw his brother that day, and he was still in bad shape. He told me to call my oldest DD and aks her if she would like to take his place. I was upset, but what can we do. So I called Paige and she thought about it. She REALLY wants to come, but over the last 2 weeks she has started 2 new jobs (working 60 plus hours a week) and she is going to school. She made a responsible decision, and said she couldn't go. (I was proud she was able to make that decision, but I don't think I could've done it .
So I asked my mom. ...I told her that Skip was still a little iffy, but if he couldn't go, would her or my dad like to come. She said she would try to clear it with work if it came down to it. (she just went to Las Vegas for a week and got back last Sat.)
Yesterday Skip gave me the offical no, he won't be going. His brother went to the Drs and cannot even apply pressure to the foot till another 3 weeks. I am very sad that this wonderful trip we have planned won't be shared with my DH. I also worried how Claire will take it. She is a Daddy's girl and loves to go on vacation with him.
I went to dinner with my parents last night at a local diner and I told my mom that if she could clear it, she's welcome to come. She said she is going to do that this AM. Then she said, Dad would like to come as well. I told her I would have to see if they would allow him to be added to our room as the cruise is sold out. And of course what the cost is.
After dinner we went back to their house, looked up flights to be sure he could get to FL, and then I called DCL. They said he couldn't be added. The room "may" hold 4 people (she couldn't seem to tell for sure), but the ship was at capacity for safety regulations (like lifeboats, etc) so unless someone else canceled their trip, he couldn't be added. Mom and him were bummed....dad even pouted a bit. ... But there is nothing I can do about that. DCL did say I could keep calling and see if anything opens up.
So...... then we decided that if Dad could fly down on Sunday, he could then meet up with us for the remaining days of the trip. We checked one way out of Detroit flying in on Sunday (Allegiant ddoesn't fly out of Toledo on Sunday) The flights were out rageous for one way AND didn't even get him into Orlando till early evening. at best. We also checked flying out of Fort Wayne, Indiana...which is about 2 hours away. The price wasn't a killer, and we can probably have my Aunt drive him there. So nothing was made yet till we are sure mom can go. But most likely Dad will meet up with us. (Dad is worried about going to an airport by himself. He says he doesn't know how to check in, and won't be able to handle luggage. I assured him that he could just go to a desk and check in with a person {not computer} and we would have a carry on prepacked for him so he wouldn't have to check luggage)
So if it goes the way we think,.... mom will be replacing Skip on the cruise portion of the trip. When we disembark on the 3rd, we will head over to Pop Century to check in. Claire and I may swim or relax or head over to Mk. (or all of the above). Mom will drive over to Sanford airport and pick dad up around 1:15 (I think). {Unless we get off the ship later than I think, then we will swing over there first and pick him up} We all will eventually meet up and go as planned. I have told my parents that we tour hard, so they are welcome to seperate or head back to the room when needed.
I also have a couple of ADRs for 3. I have been told that most likely they will allow the 4th person to join us. The only problem I see is CRT, since it is prepaid, but it sounds like if they have room, it should be no problem. I have again forewarned my parents that one may have to sit out of the meal, and they are OK with that too.
So that is my update. It will now be a little bit different of a trip than what I thought, but it will still be fun. (I may come back insane though! )
And Claire was fine with the switch...thank goodness!

Thanks. I wish he could come. I was upset...but I did have to make decsions fast and I am happy with how they are. Not the perfect way I wanted to travel, but this will work. We do plan to do something soon too togheter wehn it all works out. (he now has the cruising bug, so maybe I can get him on some sort of cruise in the next year)
Mom is officially on my reservations now. It just cost $50 to change her to the cruise and $50 to change her to the flights. She said it was one of the cheapest trips she's ever going to be on. LOL! She is going to talk to Dad tonight and see if he wants to fly out on Sunday for sure and meet up, or just stay home. My guess is he'll want to come.

Such a shame your DH has to stay home! That's the rough part of owning your own business--and it's even more responsibility when it's a farm. I hope you can take a cruise with him when his brother recovers.

I know the farm requires a lot of work but sometimes it gets to be a pain. But there is nothing I can do about it.

Me too. I know he'll probably be grumpy the day before we leave, and I can understand that. I will miss him too.
Sorry that your DH won't be able to go, but glad that it's all working out for you and Claire to still enjoy the trip!
Claire is very excited with the fact that my mom is coming. So thats good. I know she will miss Skip once we are gone though. She has never been apart from him for more than a few days.
