The “”I Don’t Have to Cook for 10 Days" TR - Aug 17-27, 2010 - COMPLETED 11/2! - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Since I have finished packing, I now spend my time obsessively checking various weather forecasts for Orlando. Why? I don't know!! You'd *think* I would just realize that it's going to be hot and disgusting and that it will rain every day. But no, I keep checking - perhaps I am hoping for an unheard of cooling off to 70 degree temps for the days we are there I know - keep dreaming! Today was really humid and gross here. I brought the kids to a park and they were drenched after 20 minutes - when I reminded them that it will be hotter than this in Disney, they groaned. Then they perked up when they remembered their mister fans Good thing I packed lots of batteries for those things!
I have a few things left to do before we go:
* clean the house
* get any outstanding laundry done, so I don't have any extra on top of our vacation laundry!
* drop some books off at school
* get DS a haircut
* go to the chiropractor - get my back airplane ready!
* pack up my toiletries and keep them together to throw in the luggage on Monday
* go to the bank and get some American money
* stuff our Mousekeeping envelopes - the kids just finished decorating these
* charge the camera batteries
* give DD and myself pedicures
I think that's about it! Not much longer!!!

I do the same thing with the weather. I check about 3 different sources and if one is just the slightest bit off (or worse than the others) I panic for awhile. It's part of vacation planning though
Good luck finishing the last little bit! I'm looking into going to a chiropractor. I've never been to one before, but my back just feels like it needs a good crack. You know how sometimes right before a bone cracks it hurts for a second? My back feels like that constantly. It's as if it's just about ready to crack but never does, and I've tried all the little tricks but it just won't go.
Nothing new on the trip front. The kids and I are completely packed - this is the earliest I think I have ever been done! Although, to be fair, we often go as soon as school lets out, so I usually don't have that much time to pack in advance with all the year end stuff I get busy with. This trip, I've been waiting all summer vacation to be able to pack I only have my cosmetic bag to throw in on the day we leave - our outfits for travel day are already out and just need to be ironed.
I spent the day today in my classroom - what a sauna! My air broke in June and it was sweltering in there - good practice for Disney I suppose!! Despite the heat, I did get all my bulletin boards done, kids desks arranged and my desk set up, so I'm feeling better about that. I still have a week before I go back when we get home, but I wanted to be able to go and relax in WDW, not worry about what I had to do for work! I'll be busy enough the weekend we get home - on that Saturday, we have my niece and nephew's birthday party and my future sister-in-law's wedding shower is on Sunday. I'm going to be exhausted!
I feel like I have been waiting all summer to pack as well! But I did put it off until yesterday...I just did not want to have the clothes hang onto their "pack" lines.
I go back to school the day after we return. Yesterday I put out clothes for the first week for me and the kids. I do not want to be any more stressed out than I already will be!

Wow! You don't have long at all! Congrats on your wonderful plans!
I love that you planned a downtime day for the pool and DTD! We really wished we had planned one of those in the middle of our trip! I hope you have a truly magical time!

Glad I'm not the only one checking weather Hope you find a good chiro to fix up that back! I love mine - they do some physio stuff too (heat/ice, ultrasound, etc.), not just the traditional cracking, so it's actually relaxing for me to go.

Thanks! I am actually looking forward to that day as much as our park days. We've never had a down day, so it'll be a nice change. The kids are looking forward to the pool opening ceremony that CSR does

I didn't get much done off the list today, but there's still time. Here's what I did accomplish:
* went to the bank and got some traveling money
* DH called the car service we use to take us to the airport and confirmed our 4:30 a.m. pick up time.
* made DS's haircut appointment and my chiropractor appointment for Monday morning
* rearranged things in the luggage a little, added some more last minute items that I can pack now
I'll work on laundry tomorrow....
The kids keep looking at their countdown calendar and freaking out because there are so few days left to cross out - not sure how I am going to keep them sane for the next few days! For that matter, not sure how I am going to stay sane!!! LOL!
