left with 2 good ones came back with one-trip report-forgot something 5/8 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Okay.. we're still at Day Three right after MIL arrives...
We all woke up around 5pm & headed over to Epcot. we were meeting our friends, Donna & Darrel for drinks. If you recall, Donna was the one who got the boys to the school on time so that they could make it to WDW, I owed her a drink!!
On our way to WS we ran into Brendan who told us Jamie was in Electric Umbrella. Headed toward there so MIL could say Hi. I ran into Jamies ex GF dad & he & I had a small confrontation that left me in tears.. ( too hard to even write about.. I considered him & his wife friends but I guess we aren't!)
I was still in shock when we reached WS.. found Donna & Darrel & burst into tears!! Told her what was going on & she really helped me to calm down. We both wanted to try the Grand Mariner Orange slush in France so we headed over there. the line was very long but we wanted what we wanted so we got into line,. While in line a lady started screaming at the CM working the counter.. she was out of control & obviously drunk.. She wanted a frozen drink & either the machine wasn't ready or the CM refused to serve her due to being inebriated. She was using such profanity & the gal working at the parasol stand ran & got a manager. The poor CM at this point was in tears while the drunk lady continued to scream obscenities. When the manager approached the lady was calm & reserved.. they spoke for a few minutes & the manager then went behind the counter & got the lady her drink.. The drunk then proceeded to cut through the line acting all into herself & said "Ha! I got my drink!!" To which Donna replied "& made a jerk of yourself!" I really wish I had said something to the manager at how the lady was treating the CM.. the poor girl was shaking & crying.. They did let her leave the stand for a few minutes to compose herself. Again, I wish I would have spoken up. No one deserves to be treated that way & the lady CLEARLY shouldn't have been served any more alcohol.
We got our drinks then just chit chatted with each other, Donna & Darrel were going to walk around WS & Brendan had texted me that he had 4 FP's for Soarin' did I want them? We told him yes & we'd meet him in the Land.
MIL had never been on Soarin & she was asking what type of ride it was & Jim told her she'd be hang-gliding.. She looked panic stricken until I told her it was cool..
She LOVED it! She kept commenting on all of the different scenes..
After Soarin we got FP's for Test Track. THen decided to walk back to WS ( can you tell we have no real tour plan) for our much anticipated dinner at Le Cellier.
We had an awesome meal.. MIL got the Lump Crab & sweet corn custard appetizer, Shelby got Steakhouse Caesar salad ( this was her go to meal the entire trip), & Jim & I both got the Cheese soup.
We ate 2 helpings of the pretzel bread.
MIL & I got the Mushroom Filet Mignon, Shelby & Jim got the New York Strip Steak. WE knew Shelby wouldn't eat the entire meal so Jim got something he'd like & put in our fridge in the room for later.
I couldn't finish my meal but HAD to get dessert.
Shelby got the Smores, MIL got the Chocolate on Chocolate whiskey cake I got the Maple Creme Brulee ( & licked the bowl clean!) & Jim got the Chocolate moose.
It was an awesome meal. After dinner MIL & Shelby were the only ones who wanted to go on Test track & Shelby thinking she knows WDW took off with MIL without asking us for directions. Jim & I told them we'd meet them at Test Track. Well, we waited & waited & finally Shelby texted us that they were lost.. they kept going round WS.. MIL was laughing saying "Shelby, there's Canada again!" so, they didn't get a chance to ride TT as the park was closing.
Everyone was pretty tired so we went back to the resort, got our refillable mugs & had some drinks..
I think I was asleep within seconds of my head hitting the pillow..
We had breakfast ADR at 1900 Park Fare & I was seriously considering canceling after our experience a few days before but then couldn't find another good breakfast place so late so we decided to give it another go
COMING UP: The big day!!! the Parade!! Watching the boys march on Main Street.
I can't believe that you had to witness that drunken woman @ WS-I'm afraid I would have had to say something because I can't stand it seeing young adults & adults get verbally abused and chastised by idiots. That reminded me of an incident we had on our January 08 trip-we were waiting to be called @ 50's PTC when a man & his son walked in & straight to the bar. He looked a little wobbly but somehow clambored up to the bar. The bartender made him a drink (was something on the rocks) which he inhaled. He then picked up his son and tried to walk out of the lobby-crashed into the TV though beforehand. I jumped up and grabbed the manager as I was afraid if this man was driving and his little boy being with him-just wasn't a great scenario. The manager kept him out front of the restaurant until the cops came but I really felt bad for the little kid. His only memory of Disney may be seeing his dad taken to jail for drinking too much!!
And then to have a run-in with your son's ex's dad? Not cool at all-I never understand why people have to be so mean!!
I do hope with the sun rising in the morning that a fresh, new day ensued for youns....and that it was a great Disney day!!
I ran into Jamies ex GF dad & he & I had a small confrontation that left me in tears.. ( too hard to even write about.. I considered him & his wife friends but I guess we aren't!)
You know, I've been thinking about this line a LOT, the past couple days.
This is going to be difficult to express clearly, without leaving lots of room for misunderstandings ... so I'm going to ask everyone who reads it to bear with me a bit, and try not to err on teh side of "leaping to conclusions", please.
Anyway ... I think, when a teenager encounters a relationship failure / collapse, IOW "breaks up with their boyfriend/girlfriend" ... then speaking in general terms, the parents shouldn't get directly involved.
It's one thing - and entirely fine - to be supportive within the home and family, to console the heartbroken, etc. It's also fine to step up to the defense of your teen, if "the other side" decides to behave unpleasantly, either in public or in private.
But, in public, for the parents of Teenager A, to be unpleasant to the parents of Teenager B ... just because A & B's relationship ended unhappily ...? No, that's not kosher. And, it makes me wonder what kind of parents they are in other, more important ways ... and thus, what kind of teenager they're raising, anyway.
So ... Disneyknut, were I you, I'd be glad your older son did break up with their daughter. In the long run, he may have saved you ALL a boatload of heartache. I mean, seriously ... if his ex-GF's father is this bad over a pair of highschool teenagers breaking up ... what would he have been like in 5 or 10 years as an In-Law? As "the other grandfather" ...??
Sorry that the day started off so unsettling with the confrontation with Jamie's ex's parents and then the drunk woman in the WS...feel so bad for the CM I am hoping the other CM told the manager everything and that they served the woman in order to get her away from the booth and that the CM was not reprimanded.
Your dinner at LC sounds delicious, glad MIL got to enjoy Soarin. Can't wait to hear all about the boys marching.
Day Three: Today was the day my MIL was joining us .. She flies stand by so she really had no idea what time she would be joining us. We had plans to go to Typhoon Lagoon & told her to call us when she got to POFQ & we'd see her after our water adventure.
We had no breakfast scheduled either as we wanted to sleep in a little. We got up had some coffee & then headed over to Typhoon Lagoon.
We had previously visited Blizzard Beach but had never been to Typhoon Lagoon. It wasn't very busy when we arrived & we were able to secure some beach loungers right by the wave pool.
The first thing we did was head to the wave pool. Now, my sister-in-law runs the concession at our local county wave pool & Jamie, Brendan & I work there over the Summer so I figured the wave pool at TL was similar.
We jumped in & swam out to the 5foot area (which is our normal at 'our' wave pool) we heard the horn go off to signal the waves & when we saw that massive MONSTER heading towards us poor Shelby looked as if she had seen a ghost.. she & I took off swimming & running toward the shallow end while the monster wave kept pounding on us.. I alternated between laughing hysterically & being frightened. Finally I got to a point where I was able to stand & the waves were still knocking me over. Shelby reached me & said she had lost her sunglasses in the wave hit.. we proceeded back & were able to find them undamaged.
At this point, Jim reached us & he too was laughing. We took a video & photos & sent them to Jamie, Brendan & my SIL.. showing them these were 'real' waves not those sissy waves at the wave pool back home.
Jim & Shelby then meandered off to ride Crush & Gusher,, I was going to ride but chickened out. We've got some cool photo pass photos of them on Crush & Gusher. i'll share once I get my CD back from WDW. There was virtually no line for Crush & Gusher so Jim & Shelby rode it several times.
They went off & did all of the other slides at the park, again with virtually no lines. We decided to relax by the pool ...
Of course, Shelby was still texting her friends back home..
Even Jim couldn't put his Droid down to relax....
finally...
but notice her cell phone is still in her hand!!
Around noon we had seen & done everything at TL. Jim's mom called & told us she was in Orlando & was heading to DME.
WE left Typhoon Lagoon & the bus was empty except for a family of 4. I wasn't really paying attention to what they were saying but Jim bent over & whispered that he thought the girl was a PassPorter member as when she saw my Passholder pouch she commented to her DH that she had to get her PassPorter off her friend.
She did strike up a conversation as she was getting DME in 20 minutes & was worried about making it, I told her that the bus was dropping off at POR first & she'd have plenty of time to make it to DME.
HA!! the bus driver stopped at all of the stops at POR then was heading back to DTD.. The family looked panicked when I told them he wasn't stopping at POFQ. The Dad asked the bus driver if the bus doesn't stop at POFQ & the driver said "Oh darn!! I forgot" The family was starting to panic & I told them to ask the bus driver to please contact the front desk & ask them to hold DME for them. The bus driver said he couldn't because his microphone wasn't working. Instead of turning around & taking us to POFQ, he drove all the way back to DTD & stopped at the West Side.. he got out of the bus & told his replacement that he had to take "these people back to FQ".. he seemed 'put out' at this. Now I wasn't on a time crunch so it didn't matter to me but the family was frantic & the bus drivers attitude didn't help any.. He was very unconcerned & seemed angry at US. THe Mom finally called someone & asked them to please hold DME for them.
He took us back to POFQ & did drop the family off at DME ( which was waiting). I looked out the window & the family must have been traveling with another family (or meeting them there) b/c they were hugging & saying goodbye.
He dropped us off at the bus depot & before we got off he stood up & said "I'm sorry but if you want to complain, this is bus #49" I was taken aback at his attitude.
We stopped off at our room.. Have I mentioned how I loved our room location??close to the bus and the food court! WE got our refillable mugs then went to the food court for a bite to eat.
Shelby got a chicken caesar salad, I got a muffleta sandwich & Jim got chicken parmesan. The one thing I didn't like about the food court is they had no bottles of diet soda.. I had intended to buy sodas for the room on our dining plan & use the refillable mugs to eat with, I guess we could have gone over to the general store & got the pops but didn't feel like it.
While we were eating I told Shelby to go check in the lobby if MIL was there yet. She came back & told us Yes Grandma was in line.. Shelby went to wait with MIL & then she came & she too got a chicken caesar salad... (She was also on the deluxe dining plan)
she was tired as she had been up at 3am to get to the airport so she headed to her room (I think it was 4319) & we all took a nap before going to Epcot for the evening.
I LOVED hearing about TL!! I could just imagine you two screaming and laughing your way out of that wave pool!! Keep that great report coming!
Okay.. we're still at Day Three right after MIL arrives...
