Trip Report - Jan 14-22 Cruise/WDW: A Disney Trip Full of Hope! COMPLETED!! 7/15 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hope looks so cute napping and I love the picture you took of her in the port hole. Too cute! What did your parents think of the Atlantis and were they glad they got off the ship to explore it?

Great updates Melissa and I love your pictures. Sorry dinner didn't go smoothly for you with Hope( and yes eventhough Skyler is almost 3 he still gets passed around too). I love Hopes pictures in the porthole, and the ones with the characters, her napping on you(way too precious) andin the splash zone. Sounds like it's been a great couple of days. Looking foward to more please.
What fun realxing in the sun with your family! That picture od Hope napping on you is just precious!! I miss those days!
I think about that all of the time. Soon she'll be too big and it's one of my favorite things to do with her

Hoping dinner went better than the last time!
Thanks! My parents just explored the free portion of the hotel, but we've all been there before a couple of times, and let me just say that it is very nice! They were happy to get off the ship for a little bit this time, but they weren't gone for very long if you ask me.

Yes, even with swim diapers they still make you go in the splash zone. I thought it was a little strange but maybe it has something to do with the cleaning of the pools on a cruise ship

She is usually pretty well behaved at dinner and sitting at a table, but for some reason this cruise was a little bit different Thank goodness we had other laps to put her on

Friday, January 15th - Part Two: A Pirates Life For Me!
When we got back to our room Hope started rubbing her eyes, so we thought we would try to put her down for a quick nap. Unfortunately she just wouldn’t go down. We fed her dinner at her normal time and we were out the door by 5pm so we could go get some pictures and see Captain Jack. It was Pirates on the Caribbean night, and I was a little worried about the no nap issue, but I decided I wasn’t going to worry about it until I had too.
We went down to the lobby atrium where they said Jack…I mean Captain Jack …was suppose to be, but he was no where to be found. I asked a girl that was getting ready to get her picture taken with Daisy Duck and she said she didn’t think he was supposed to be greeting guests. But it was right there in the Navigator? Nope…just a shrug and she was on her way. I don’t know what made me go up one level towards the theater, but I’m glad I did because there was Captain Jack ALL BY HIMSELF! I guess they had moved him to a new location and no one knew where he was.
Captain Jack does not like babies at all. He just didn’t know what to make of her. He kept backing away and giving her this look of disgust…it was priceless.
We got a few pictures with him and then decided to try to get a couple family photos done. She is such a good baby when it comes to getting pictures taken, but not this time. The photographer was wonderful though, I cannot stress that enough. He gave her so much attention and even let her try to make the flash go off on her camera. She just would not pay attention enough to even smile at him. We did end up buying one photo, but that was it.
By then it was time for dinner, and this evening we were in Triton’s, a beautiful restaurant themed to The Little Mermaid. Once we were seated it started. She did not want to sit by herself and she kept rubbing her eyes. Please give me one good evening to enjoy a meal...nope, not going to happen. I stood up and told everyone that I was going to take her back to the cabin and I would just get something to eat later, but my father told me he wasn’t even hungry and he would take her. At first I thought he was just telling me that so I wouldn’t miss dinner, but my mom said that he told her he wasn’t hungry before they even left the room.
I decided to let him take her out, and he said he was going to sit somewhere quiet so she could sleep. I tried to not let this ruin my dinner since I’m the type of person who wants everything to work out for the better, and in my mind this did not work out for my father.
This time I took pictures of our meals, since there were no little distractions to make me forget. All of us ordered the same appetizer, the Chilled Jumbo Shrimp. This was delicious, and the dipping sauce was amazing.
For the second course, I ordered the Tomato & Basil Soup, which I could have easily had seconds of.
My mom ordered the Green Market Salad which she said was your basic garden salad. but with goat cheese, and she didn't didn't like that very much.
For the main course, I ordered the Three-Cheese Lobster Macaroni. I was so disappointed with this dish. First of all, I don’t eat lobster that much…don’t ask, it’s a weird animal thing with me, so I was hoping this would be really good. It was extremely dry and didn’t have much taste to it.
Both Chad and my mom ordered the Grilled Beef Tenderloin, and they both gave it a thumb’s up.
For dessert I broke away from the pack again, and ordered the Chocolate Mousse. It was pure melt-in-your-mouth chocolate heaven!!!
Again, Chad and my mom decided to order the same thing, and went with Triton’s Sweet Temptations (Crème Brulee, Chocolate Mousse, and some Praline thingy). They ate it all without blinking, so I’m thinking they enjoyed it.
I must admit that even though I was upset about my father leaving with Hope, I did have a very enjoyable dinner without worrying that she was going to start crying at any moment. After we finished our meal we set off to find out where he was hiding with her. We found them sitting on the 6th level overlooking the atrium lobby with her fast asleep in his lap.
When she heard our voices she woke up and was once again happy and refreshed.
Mom and I decided that we were going to go see the new Toy Story musical while Chad and my father enjoyed a cigar on the top deck. I wasn’t sure how she was going to act in the theater since this would be our first live show together, but how are you going to know until you try it out?
She was surprisingly good, and was fascinated with all of the lights and colors. About halfway through the show she started getting tired again and fell in my arms. Even with the loud noises and music she stayed asleep. I have to say that we were both a little disappointed with this production. The costumes were great, but it didn’t hold our interest very well, and the songs weren’t didn’t seem that good either.
Before we went up on the top deck for the Pirate party we decided to stop back at the room so I could put her in her pjs. She was still passed out at this point…
…but I had to wake her in order to get her all comfy again. We were also greeted by another towel animal...a monkey
We headed up to meet the guys and by this time she was wide awake again!
We had so much fun that night. She loved dancing and watching the characters, and she was totally mesmerized by the fireworks. Her mouth was hanging open the whole time. I wish I would have gotten a picture of that, but I was so busy enjoying it with her that I forgot to snap a photo.
After the party was over, we snatched up a couple of lounge chairs, grabbed some dessert and settled in to watch Pirates in the Caribbean...and for me to swoon over Orlando Bloom again! We only lasted through about an hour into the movie because she finally fell asleep again, and I thought it would be best if we put her down for the night.
Even though dinner didn’t go so well, this was the perfect ending to a wonderful day!
