Recruiting Fans for PassPorter Street Teams! - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi Guys,
I would love to help. I have used Passporter on my last four trips to Disney World. I won my last copy by submitting a tip and was very excited. I have since made PassPorter converts out of everyone I know and it is the first book I tell people to pick up when planning their trips. I always check the travel section to see what Disney books the book stores and libraries have wherever I am. I really like the pass pockets to keep and record data in for each trip, and the listing of phone numbers really saved us on one trip when my son realized at the airport that he forgot his medic alert bracelet. We were able to phone ahead to the pharmacy and have it delivered to the front desk of our resort where it was waiting for us when we arrived. I would not plan a trip or go on a trip without it.

Jen,
When I purchase a new Passporter, I donate the old one; I have donated 2 older versions to the local library already. I travel for my job (within a hour drive) but to many different communities. I work in marketing & advertising & visit over 75 stores each month. I have planned 5 trips for my family, 3 for my mom, 1 each for 2 of my brothers & 3 for friends. All using the passporter, (& other online resources allears, mouseforless) except for the first in 1992, 10 yrs later I got my first passporter (& innernet access) & never looked back. Friends I've let them look through my passporter & explain how helpful it is in keeping everything together before, during & after the trip. Great for storing recpt, small items as napkins, drink stirs, park maps, ect; try to personalize it to their needs/wants. I just came back over Christmas & now that the holidays are over I am getting ready to start the scrapbook from this trip. so In the past I have kept items in the passporter & friends have seen them while in the process, with items stored by days in the pockets of the passporter. Thanks for considering me for your new Street team. Shelley
I would love, LOVE, LOVE to be a member of your street team! Our family of four is pretty new to the Disney life -- our second trip is only TEN MONTHS away -- but we were fortunate enough to find a copy of the Passporter the first trip we planned in 2008. For this trip I ordered four copies -- one for us, and one for each family going with us!
I have told people time and again, this is THE book to have, THE site to use and THE message board to refer to for all things planning their WDW trip whether they're newly-minted Mickey maniacs like us or lifelong fans of "the World". My friends in my writers group even teased me because they said I should write a guidebook of my own and I told them there's just no way to write a better one. The Passporter has EVERYTHING needed to plan that perfect trip, plus more.
I had the privilege of writing several articles this last year for the Passporter Newsletter and still enjoy getting the emails forwarded from Sara passing on comments from readers..."The Reluctant Mouseketeer" was definitely the favorite, according to the comments.
I hope you consider me as a street team member, Jennifer -- but either way, you and Dave have a pack of fans out here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Thank you for the wonderful newsletter, the awesome site and the chance to share the "Mouse Magic"!

We've been doing a lot of these things since we got our first Passporter so things won't change much for us however to be an "official" part of the team would be a great honor. Thanks for the oppoptunity.
I would like to give this a try! I just bought my first passporter book (leather bound 2010 wdw edition) and brag about it all the time. i wouldn't mind getting some perks for doing what i am already doing
I live about 20 north of boston and am about 10 minutes from the NH border. I have two small kids and we love to vacation!
I would love to get involved in spreading the word about passporter. I didn't get to visit Disney for the first time until I was 31. It was such a magical experience. Our family ended up purchasing a DVC membership on that trip and plan a park or cruise trip every year. We wouldn't have successful trips without your books and newsletters Sign me up to spread the word.......

I would be happy to raise the awareness of Passporter to the Canadian population. I too am a great fan already do may things naturaly promoting the book and web site. Talking with all those who will listen to my rabblings regularly can be seen on the public transit with book in hand planning / dreaming about my next trip.
I see you have a poster from Toronto, Canada that would cover the east I'm in the west so you would have both ends of Canada covers
PS We have West Edmonton Mall one of the largest malls.
Good luck Tena

I, too, spread the word about PassPorter every chance I get. Last year, I bought extra copies just to give away to friends and co-workers. I looked for the 2010 edition last weekend at my local Barnes & Noble but didn't see a copy -- now, thanks to this thread, I realize I should go back and REQUEST that the store start stocking the PP. I love the idea of pulling out the book so the cover faces out, too. You can count on me! I am SO READY to get started! Pick me! Pick me! (Pretty please with sugar on top???)
Pst, Pst, Pst (That is short for Passporter Street Team). Another applicant reporting for duty. I'm already a member of the Pst, Pst, Pst team, along with many other members of your boards. We have been so happy to advertise for you. A good product sells itself and once our friends and family have been exposed to Passporter, they are hooked. Passporter is the best guidebook I have seen. Our family has been to Walt Disney World over a dozen times and we are known as the "Disney Experts" around here. All of our children are huge Disney fans and they are no longer the traditional "Disney" target ages - 24, 21, 18, and 13. Even our 21 year old, the least "Disney" of them all, was talking in the "Genie" voice to his girlfriend the other night "I have such a crook in my neck", and decided they needed to watch the movie. (So, even though he doesn't admit it, he is a Disney fan as well.) When anyone in the neighborhood is heading to "The World", we seem to get a call from a friend of a friend of a friend. I love sharing Passporters, web sites, and hints and tips we have gleaned from our trips. I love to make up little goodie bags to get them excited for their trip and then treat bags for the trip. I love to know a year in advance, so I can send them little packages each month to help them plan and get the most from their trip. The kids love the "Mickey soap and shampoo package"(stashed from our trips) telling them to get all spiffed up because everyone at Disney World is getting ready for their visit. My favorite treat bags are the state line bags, for the driving families. They contain some info about the state they are going to travel through, some things they will see out their car window, a few puzzle pages and some goodies relating to their state - Ohio is usually a page on how to fold a paper airplane to fly at a rest stop (Wright Brothers), a moon pie (First man to walk on the moon) a pack of gum ( W.F. Semple of Mount Vernon patented chewing gum in 1869), etc. Georgia has a small can of Coke, some kind of peach flavored gummie, (you get the idea.) But, as we all know, not everyone is as organized as we are and they do those spur of the moment trips. We like to help them as well. We have a special tree at Christmas full of the ornaments we have received as thank yous, as well as a scrapbook full of pictures, notes and postcards from our "friends" who have enjoyed their trips to Walt Disney World. But nothing is as meaningful to us as talking to the children after (sometimes via phone during) their trips. Just to know that Walt's intention of parents enjoying time spent with their children, is satisfaction enough. Children grow up so quickly, and their childhood passes in the blink of an eye. As one of my "Princesses" on a choir trip to Walt Disney World said, "Every child should get to come here once in their lifetime. It is just . . . Magical." Another chimed in with, "The time we have spent here has made us feel like we were little girls again." (That trip was one of my favorites!) I had 8 high school girls in my group and they visited every park, saw all three nightime shows, and had the time of their life in just three short days. They were up and at the turnstiles before the parks opened every morning and were among the last people out each night. Our last morning, they were joking with the cast member at the turnstile that they wanted to be the first in the park. He accommodated them a few minutes before the rest of the turnstiles were opened. That evening, they just couldn't leave the Magic Kingdom. As we were walking up the deserted Main Street, we were met by a cast member from the Marina. He asked where we were headed. When we said "All Star Music", he radioed the boat captains to head in for the night. I asked if we were the last people leaving the park and he said "Yes, Maam, you sure are." We apologized for keeping them. And in true Disney fashion, he said we were not keeping them at all, they were still on the clock for a half hour. He was just so happy to see girls that age still smiling and soaking in the magic, especially at that time of night. He was happy they enjoyed their trip. I was the luckiest chaperone to have such a great group of "Princesses". Without the "Passporter Family", I wouldn't have learned tips and hints for making our trips all they can be. (My first two trips - prior to Passporter - I hated. I swore I would never go there again. Never say never. . .)
I also have a little game I play at the book stores during my visits. "Can you get the customer to buy a Passporter?" When we are in a bookstore (which is ofen, our children are all avid readers - except the "Non Disney" one.) I spend my time checking out the Disney guidebooks. When someone comes along, I ever so subtley recommend Passporter. Nine times out of ten, I win.
So official member of the Pst team or not, I will still be promoting all things Disney, including Passporter. Thanks for a great product!
I would LOVE to help out! Everyone I meet knows how mush I love everything about Disney and I have helped several friends and family members plan there vacations to Disney and I always lend them my Passporter. I even stock up on your old ones when you sell them so I can give them away. I love the Passporter I am on your website quite often and refer everyone I know who is looking for a Disney vacation here. Please pick me to help spread the Magic and make Dreams Come True
I would love to pass the word for Passporter. We travel alot. We have 350,000 on our truck alone and it is a 2003! That is not counted the two cars...
We sell railroad books and travel to trade shows. Along the way we stop at alot of bookstores. I would be glad to present the booksotres with your information and show them a sample of the books.
I would be happy to post any flyers you might have on public bulletin boards, too.
Love this idea !
I am only one of a huge group of fans that will be responding to this, I'm sure, but here's a little about me:
My husband and I live across the St Lawrence River from New York and have a bed and breakfast in Prescott, Ontario. We have been huge Passporter supporters since we began taking our kids to WDW in 2007 (4 trips in 3 years!) and bought our first one. Like most of your loyal fans, we have recomended the book and the boards to everyone we've encountered since who even hints at going.
Last year, we had a guest at the B&B from way up in Northern Ontario who was working in the area and he spent his evenings reading our Passporter and planning a trip with his family. We even got emails from him after he had finished his work here and returned home about their trip (it was great, of course, because he had all the information he needed to plan a great trip for his family) That, in a nutshell, is why I always recommend Passporter. I know first-hand and from countless of my friends who bought one how it changed their Disney experience for the best.
I, too, am known know as the Disney "go-to" person in my area and even have travel agents asking me for tips. I've contacted our nearest Costco to find out why I couldn't find Passporters on their book tables but never thought to go to local bookstores - I'll get on it!
Along with the B&B, I am the program director for an adult recreation centre with hundreds of members in my home town and my dearest wish is to take a busload of our members down to share in the magic. I would be delighted to be the Canadian on the Passporter Street Team - I get goosebumps! What missionary wonders could I accomplish with the support you are offering??
My fingers are crossed and I wish you good luck with this Jennifer and Dave,
Susie-Q

I would happily do this! I am constantly getting questions from friends and family who consider me the Disney expert around here! They often wonder how I know so much, and that knowledge has come mostly from this forum and the Passporter Guides!
I've helped many friends plan trips to Disney World and I always point them in your direction. Unfortunatley, I find that most of the people I talk to about Disney are sadly uninformed. I hate the idea of them wasting time and money simply because they lack a proper guide.
I would love the opportunity to officially point people in the right informational direction and do it with the zeal that I already have for all things Disney! I need this outlet!
I live in central Oklahoma, and I visit north Texas quite a bit too. I'd love to get the word out all over a town I've lived in all my life! I know everyone it seems.
Please consider me for this opportunity. It's just the thing I've been looking for!
Thanks for all the information you provide. You guys are the best!
-Naomi

Count me IN!
I already pass on the word to anyone who will listen, and some who are just too polite to not. I have the passion - or as DH says "obsession". I would love to do more. I'm relative new to the passporter family, but my old book has already been loaned out more times than I can count. I am always checking out the local book store to see what passporter books they have in, and facing them outwards so more people can see what a wonderful book it is. I have been proudly showing off my new 2010 version, with my a few of my pictures in it.
I am just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Hi Jennifer! I would love to be part of the Passporter Street Team. I am always telling my friends (and strangers) about Passporter and how helpful it is. I have often taken my copy with me to appointments or work because someone has mentioned wanting to plan a trip to WDW and I want to show them all the wonderful features that Passporter books have. I have also talked it up on the internet to my friends that live to far away for me to see. My parents commented that they were going to purchase a new one for me since I will be planning our trip for 2011, but I already had the new one. LOL I am pretty active on the boards (although not as much lately since my laptop died and I am borrowing a computer) and always refer people here also when I tell them about the book. Actually, I often refer them here and tell them to buy the book directly from your site.
While we were at WDW, I proudly wore my Passporter pouch and whenever anyone asked me about it, I told them what a wonderful community you have here. Thanks to all the knowledge about WDW that I have gathered from your community, I was able to spread some magic of my own during our vacation, which made our stay much more magical in turn.
I live in a tiny town, but I am often in larger cities to visit their bookstores. With me you get a minimum of 3 cities worth of street talk. I go to many small businesses around town and then work in the next town over. There I am always visiting other stores that we do not have here. Then a few times a week I am in a larger town for school. I have already talked up your Cruise line book to a classmate. I have unlimited opportunities to tell the world about your wonderful efforts in creating the Passporter books and community. OK, let's face it, even if I am not picked I will continue to tell everyone about your books and community. I truly believe that they are that terrific. Good luck choosing your first Street Team.
