The Stone Family's Magical Adventure including food photos - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

November 30th continued......
After lunch at Y&Y we moved on through Asia. I knew Jeff wanted to ride Expedition Everest and the girls wanted to go to the Boneyard, and the incessant "when can we go back to the hotel and swim" was coming out of Gelsey's mouth. I do like to let them do what they want....if they want to swim, sure , lets go, but I knew I had only budgeted one day for AK and wanted to see SOME of it! The line for EE said 20 minutes so Jeff took MIL and got in line. The girls and I set up camp in front of the drop to try and catch a glimpse at them...which we did. MIL looked a little terrified. Once off she needed a moment. But at least she can say she rode it.....once.
After EE we headed over to DinoLand and it was finally starting to get a little hot...yeah, now that my butt finally dried from Kali River. The girls played some games at Chester & Hester's and you know we had to play until both girls won something . Then Gelsey rode Triceratops Spin with MIL & Jeff. Remy wouldn't ride it as it does go up in the air so I took her into a gift shop and got her a new charm for her braclet. I also found some cute Princess sunglasses and they needed them now. It was SUNNY and creeping up into the 80's and you know how AK is....always hotter there! After we met back up with the gang the girls played in the Boneyard for over an hour. Afterwards we got some drinks and some popcorn, (snack credits!) and wandered over to the Tree of Life. We marveled for a while at the animal carvings and I took some pictures and we looked in a few shops. Then we wandered out through the Oasis...leisurely checking out the animals housed there.
We caught the bus back to PO and actually got seats for all of us....though by the time we got to our hotel Jeff and I had both stood up and Gelsey was sitting on MIL's lap. We had enough time to freshen up and head over to Jiko for dinner. Once again the cab debate ensued. But after Jeff realized that we'd have to bus back to AK THEN get on another bus to the Lodge he changed his tune. Our reservation for Jiko was 6:15 and we were a little early for it. This is unheard of in our family. We are always late and so far this trip we had been early for everything....you gotta thank the scheduler for that!. This was the first time we had ever been over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was pretty...I think. It was dark I really couldn't make much out. I definately want to get over there in the daylight next time. It was VERY crowded in there and we weren't sure exactly where Jiko was so after fumbling around a bit we got checked in. I apologized for being early and we were asked to have a seat in the lounge, which was good since it was right near the bathrooms. I took the girls for their first of what was like, 20 bathroom trips, (at Lunch, they went 3 times!!!!). Jeff felt bad because there were never family bathrooms in the restaurants...at least not that we saw. (CRT did have one!). No sooner did I return that we were being seated. sweet hostess too, very nice. Our server was Shellie. She was great. She got down on her knees to be eye level with the girls and taked to them all about the kids menus and asked them what they liked. She walked us though all the choices on the adult menu as well. She was very engaging and enjoyable.

Gelsey and Remy sort through tough choices with Shellie.
To be honest Jiko surprised me! I really was not sure about this. I had looked at the menu online and knew I would at least be able to get a filet. But as it turned out EVERYTHING was wonderful.
Appetizers:
Both girls got Carrots, Celery, apples with Peanut Butter
My appetizer. Barbecue Chicken Flatbread- with apple-jicama slaw, African barbecue sauce and four cheeses. I wasn't sure about this but had seen pictures of it on the food thread so I figured I take a chance. It just seemed like a really odd mixture of ingrediants. It was really incredible. If I could eat this everyday it would still probably take me a month to get sick of it. I shared SMALL bites with my family -I wanted it all to myself!!!
MIL's appetizer: Crispy Savanna Rolls- with sweet corn, bitter greens, goat cheese and curry vinaigrette. This was fantastic...next time we go I think we'll order appetizers only...but ALL of them!
Jeff's appetizer: Seared Ostrich Filet. Literally melted in your mouth but with a nice crust. The sauce though, a yogurty style I could do without...no need to cover up the great taste of the meat!
Gelsey's kids pizza. More like a flatbread or a pizzetta. I would order this!
My entree Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon- with macaroni & cheese and a red wine sauce. Superb...and they did bring it moo-ing just like I like! The macaroni was really tasty too! Jeff had the same entree.
MIL's entree: Barbecue Beef Short Ribs- with roasted Yukon Gold potatoes, and onion garlic sauce. Had a small taste and they were good but I had plenty of my own to handle!
Great updates to your TR! I'm so glad you've gotten your pictures up, too! I've been wondering about trying Jiko's and now that I've seen everything you all had, I'm convinced we need to try this one, maybe next time we stay at AKV.
Remy's kids Grilled chicken breast with mashed potatoes and veggies. Pretty good for a kid's meal , huh?
Desserts! House made Meyer Lemon Curd with pomegranate and blueberry compote...yum!
MIL's no added sugar dessert- Allspice-Flavored Cake
Jeff had this chocolate tasting dessert that I can't remember exactly what it was called. There was a mousse like cake, a pudding and a pot that was like creamy chocolate sauce!
Kid's dessert: fun do assorted treat with chocolate-carmel fondue
This was a fantastic dinner!!!! The only bad thing was it was 2 1/2 hours. The last 30 minuted involved us waiting for our check. Our server kinda of got hit hard towards the end of our meal and I should have just gone up to the desk and asked for our check instead of trying to wait for her.....it's what I did in the end. But, other than that it was a fantastic meal.
