The Trip that Almost had No Memories! Nov. at WL! - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am so sorry you lost your camera. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in MK nonetheless, and that you got yourself a new camera from Wal Mart. I'd say that was money well spent.
I agree about Christmases in TX. Phew! This was my first, and it was a warm one. I didn't like it one bit.
I'm so tickled that your DD enjoys the rides. That is so awesome! My DD was always a daredevil and has always ridden ANY ride thrown at her. We love it because we are ride freaks.
It sounds like you had a great day at Epcot and AK. Hurry back with more!
We from there went on to get FPs for Kilimanjaro Safari’s. We found out that the last safari left at 4:30 so we knew that we had to be back before that. By now we were starting to get hungry and decided to go find Flame Tree Barbeque to see if it was as good as everyone said it was. As we were waiting to order, one of the CMs was just chatting with us about how our day was going. We exclaimed that everything had been great except losing our beers at the Lion King show. I apparently seemed a little more than bummed about that. We then got up to order. My DH ordered the barbeque sandwich and I ordered the rib plate to try it. Kylie got a hot dog I think which she fed most of it to the birds .
After we got our food, the CM that we had been chatting with reappeared. She asked us what our name was and explained that while she couldn’t replace our beers that were thrown away, she could give us a Fast Pass to any ride of our choosing for our day at Animal Kingdom! Awesome, I took a picture of our golden family fast pass . After we ate our food (it was good, but we have better BBQ in TX) we headed back into Asia to ride Expedition Everest. On our way there we saw a little t-shirt stand that had the “Tigger, is that you?” t-shirt in Kylie’s size so we bought that.
We made our 2nd big mistake of the day (after leaving our beers under the stroller) was that we didn’t spell out some very clear rules about where to meet after our child swap . We also misjudged the amount of time to get through the FP line, ride the ride and to come out. I went first, camera in hand the whole time and got some great pics of where the track ends and of the image of th e Yeti . I came out to find DH and DD5 waiting in the gift shop. Terry then takes his turn on the ride. Kylie and I scoot out to try to get a picture of him coming down the big hill. I wait for a couple of trains to go through and never really could tell which one he was on. We decided it was time to go back in and wait for him to come out. We waited and waited. I didn’t know what could’ve happened . We were standing right by the door where they come through after looking at their pictures. After about 30 or so minutes I asked one of the CMs what to do about my lost DH, that I feared the Yeti might have eaten him . She had no idea what to do so I went back to waiting by the door. Apparently DH called my cell phone that was buried in the bottom of the backpack. Although I didn’t hear it ring or answer it, we were still charged full roaming rates as if I had answered it , on both my husband’s phone and mine (we have a state plan)!
I went ahead and gave Kylie the surprise baby Marie Kitty to entertain her that I had bought at a stand earlier and had planned to give her at Christmas. She had seen one and wasn’t going to stop begging until she got it, I knew. Plus she was being so good, waiting patiently for her daddy to come. Finally I decided (after about 45 min.) to leave my spot and take a peek and see if the stroller was still outside. Right as we went through the door to the outside there was DH coming in. Both of us were like “where have you been?”, half angry and half worried. We must have still been outside in the time that he went right through and came right off the ride. He claimed he came into the gift shop multiple times looking for us (?) and finally gave up to wait by the stroller. He had worried that something bad had happened for us to leave without the stroller. Nope, we were just inside waiting for him. We still go round and round about the sequence of events that transpired while visiting the Yeti! This called for another beer.

OMG such a great trip. I am loving every bit. Do you only have access at work or are you able to upload things from home? We would love to see your pictures hopefully. I am interested to hear more of your take on WL as we are thinking of doing that when we next get to stay at WDW.
We got another Safari Amber and tried to get a spot to watch the parade that was starting to pass by. No such luck on a spot. People were so thick that we couldn’t see and there wasn’t any getting through. Looking at the map, the only place to go was to Dinoland. This wasn’t originally on my plans since Kylie had seen previous footage and informed us “no way” on the Dinosaur ride. Primeval Whirl wasn’t on any of our agendas but since there was no other place to go we just sat down on a bench to drink our beers while we tried to watch the tops of the parade as it went by.
This proved boring so we went ahead to Dinoland where I let Terry have a turn on the kiddie ride with Kylie, TriceraTop Spin. I took pictures of them on this ride while I finished my beer (remember it is hard to push a stroller and drink a beverage at the same time). By the time they got off, the parade was over and we were getting real close to the last safari time of the day. We hurried over there as fast as we could and had a lovely time talking to a CM while waiting for our truck. Our safari had the same story as all the safaris but since this was our first time to hear it, we enjoyed it. There weren’t many animals out and the few that we did see, the truck was bouncing so hard that all my pictures were blurry. I definitely want to try this again next time.
After the safari, we weren’t quite ready to be done for the day, but we didn’t want to stay till 6 to try to catch the next Nemo musical. We did stop on the bridge and get our photo taken with the Photopass Photographers and ended up getting our best family photo yet that we put on our Christmas cards this year!
By now, we were a bit too tired and it was starting too get dark to go through the different walking trails or explore the Oasis and we still had our golden Fastpass. We didn’t want to use it on Expedition Everest since Kylie couldn’t go on it (too short) so I asked her how she felt about riding Dinosaur. I guess her success on all the rides thus far made her feel very brave and she decided that she thought she could handle it. Off we headed back to Dinoland and into the FP line for Dinosaur. We relinquished our golden FP about the same time we realized that the stand-by line was also a walk on. Oh well, I did get a picture of our golden FP to remember it by. As we boarded our time travel vehicle I checked DD5’s bravery level again and we were still good to go. Good thing I checked then, because there wasn’t anymore talking (that we could hear each other) or barely see each other (it was so dark in places) that I didn’t even know if she was okay till the very end . And she was better than okay, she was really excited about it! I think the fact that she conquered what she perceived as the scariest ride of all, gave her such a rush of power that elated her beyond everything she had known to this point. She had rode Dinosaur without getting scared! She was grinning ear to ear and was obviously very pleased with her new found, unsinkable bravery! (This lack of fear would come in real handy the next day at TOT).
After conquering the unconquerable, we decided to call it an early night and head back to WL for our ADRs at Whispering Canyon. We went straight to the restaurant upon entering WL and they couldn’t find our ADR anywhere. Granted we were late and as I discovered later, you drop off the screen after about an hour. I guess this CM didn’t know how to check back further. I wasn’t completely sure if we had the ADR for there that night or a different night so I decided maybe I had our nights mixed up . Rather than going upstairs to check for a confirmation number we decided to try Roaring Forks, counter service in WL, for the first time. Kylie got her favorite chicken nuggets, a flatbread pizza for me and a sandwich for DH. We were very happy with our dessert choices at Roaring Forks and burned up quite a few snack credits up here at the end of the trip. After we ate, we went and explored the Mercantile gift shop and did some shopping. I bought some gifts to take home: a dishtowel and shortbread cookies for mom; WL postcard, magnet, nightgown and little totem pole of the characters for me; a Christmas Tink doll for Kylie and some postcards from the parks.
The weather today: sunny, clear and beautiful.
The best things: Terry-the safari, Kylie and Laura-Festival of the Lion King show
Worst thing: Missing each other after the child swap at Expedition Everest
The funniest thing: The stinkbug tooting on the audience at It’s Tough to be a Bug
Today we tried: Child Swap
And the result was: a disaster! We need to set a meeting place
The most magical moment was: Getting the golden Fastpass as compensation for getting our beers thrown out

I made your picture bigger and I see that your little Kylie look like a strong will person and has a good head on her shoulder. I will have to how I can get over to WL just to see the area. I'm glad you had a good time at AK.
