A Marriage Proposal, a Little Gustav and a Whole Lot of Magic! TR - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Congratulations on your engagement. You are a beautiful couple and I can't imagine a more romantic way to propose than standing in the Magic Kingdom watching Wishes.
I'm glad I finally get to read the story of your trip and engagement! And I have to add that I HIGHLY recommend a WDW honeymoon, with a dinner at Victoria & Albert's. DH had told me that the only way he'd agree to go to such a high-end place for dinner was if I did a money dance at the wedding. I was originally opposed to a money dance (which, I understand, is much more of a tradition back east or with Italian families - into which I was marrying), but I so wanted to try V&A's that I said yes. We ended up both dancing, after explaining to everyone why we were, and I actually enjoyed it. And, we ended up being able to pay for the dinner with that money (thanks to new FIL who gave me $50 ). My fave picture of our honeymoon is from there (shoot, I've told this story before on PP, I just can't remember where - so apologies if you've heard it before).

No worries! I must have missed the post since I haven't read your before! What a great idea and a fun story! My parents went to V&A's when I was a younger and STILL remember how wonderful the experience was, I would certainly make it a must stop the next time we are in the area. DFia and I have been trying to figure out where we are going to go on our honeymoon. For a couple years now we were planning on Hawai'i, but now we both have Disney on the brain and since that is the place he proposed and it holds such special memories, we might be changing our minds. Plus we now know how much fun we can have as adults in Disney - and both of us want to return before we have kids. Another thought is doing a few days in Disney and then catching a cruise around the caribbean. We have awhile to plan (our wedding is going to be in June 2010) I'm sure we'll have all the kinks worked out by then!
Congratulations Karyn. That is so beautiful you brought tears to my eyes. You guys make a beautiful couple. Now when you have children and take them to WDW n the future, your DH can tell them the story about how he proposed to there. (my DH never lets them forget it. ) I can't wait to hear about your first day at Epcot. Love the ring also.
Hey it worked!!!!! Sorry about my excitement, but I just figured out how to get my photopass pics up and running! Anyway this is a shot from the proposal night just before we headed home....we had a few photopass pictures taken that night but unfortunately they were all out of focus. I'm going by the motto something is better than nothing!

Just catching up!! Amazing update!! Congratulations on the proposal!! Your ring is beautiful!!
What operating system are you using? XP or Vista?
Looking forward to more
Thanks Dyan! I'm using XP but I couldn't downsize the pictures enough (I usually use photoshop and downgrade the quality so they are a small enough file to fit) but I used Craig's photobucket account and that made the pictures small enough - see he's coming in handy already!
Before I start with my Epcot story, I have to change my cast of characters!
Me: Karyn - grad school student who needed to get away from any sort of school activity.
DFia: Craig - also a grad school student who also needed to get away from any sort of school activity.
Yay!
Ok....So back to day 2!
I was certain we were going to sleep in after the long night, but at 7:30 am we're up and ready to go! We caught the bus and were ready for an awesome day! Our first stop was Soarin'. After reading so many wonderful comments about this ride, I had to see for myself what all the talk was about. Honestly, I didn't think it would be that great, you know big screen movie theater, a few scents, dangling feet....eh I didn't really get it. But then we got on....WOW! Unbelievable....no it was not a thrill ride, but it is now far and away my favorite Disney ride. As soon as we exited we got fast passes for later, I couldn't wait to ride again! Next we headed to Spaceship Earth, my (prior to Soarin') favorite Epcot ride. Love love LOVED the changes. I thought it was great that they kept a lot of the integrity of the ride, while moderizing it. The end of the ride was so appropriate!
After riding Soarin' again, we headed to Mission Space, but the line was too long, so we grabbed a fast pass and rode Test Track. Test Track was much better than I remembered - I actually liked it this time around! We still had some time to kill, but it was around lunch time so we headed to grab a bite to eat. I was originally thinking we were going to eat at Morocco, but I didn't want to walk halfway around the showcase to get there, so we stopped at Krigla in Norway. What a great decision! We both had the best lunch of the vacation here! I had the chicken salad sandwich with the fruit tart and Craig had the roastbeef sandwich with the school bread - WOW (all of my days are filled withWOWS! Sorry if it gets annoying )! Seriously, if you haven't eaten here, give it a shot it was wonderful, so much to choose from for the deserts and everything is so fresh and wonderful.
So off my food rant, we rode the ride in Norway, which was cute. Then headed back to Mission Space. This was interesting......I have never ridden this ride before. Craig suggested we ride the green side first and build up to the orange, but me being me, I thought naa...lets do it! He's ridden before and loved it, I'm more of a thrill rider myself so I thought no problem! So orange side we went! Big mistake - so after stuffing myself with "Norwegian" food, I'm getting on the ride that spins you like crazy and is stocked with "sick-bags". Yeah.....as we're waiting to get on the ride, the guys partnered with us start talking about the people who rode with them before and got sick.....so now my stomach is churning. Craig kept saying we can just leave, but I was too stubborn. On we went.....I got through the ride, but not very well. When we got outside, I was shaking I thought I was going to be sick.....I was fine about a half hour later, but we never went back to this ride - which is really too bad since I'm sure had the circumstances been different I would have loved it.
To get myself back to normal, we headed to the showcase. I finally called my mom to let her know about the night before - she was so excited! She didn't know when he was planning on proposing, so it was a bit of a surprise for her as well. We ran into the best photopass photographer and he took a ton of pictures! Including this one:
After we had our picture session, we headed over to France and got the Grand Marnier - which was AWESOME! As soon as we got it, it started pouring out, but it was still sunny, Florida is so strange So we had to take a toasting picture...
After we finished walking, we rode Soarin' for the third time! I couldn't believe the waits were so short (around 20 minutes for the standby line)! At 6:00 we had a reservation at San Angel but it was 5:00 and we were starving so we went over and asked if we could have a river seat, which we got! I ordered a glass of wine, but our server told me that for a quarter more I could get a half-caraf, so I did.....hahaha way too much for me! But it was money well spent! I ordered the Mole Poblano - it was very good, pretty hot actually, but not hot enough where I couldn't enjoy it. Craig got the Plato Mexicano, which was ok, but I was surprised that there wasn't more food .
When we left San Angel, Epcot had completely cleared out. There were hardly any people anywhere! The roads were soaked, and although it was drizzling, it wasn't raining much at all. Apparently it was pouring when we were eating...great timing! I wanted to ride Spaceship Earth again, but when we got there a CM told us that it was shut down because of lightning strikes....he also said Test Track and most other rides were closed....hmmm......well, we headed back to Soarin' and it was up and running! After we got out, it was right around 8:30, we had Test Track fast passes that were good between 8-9, so we went over and it was also working. We got out with two minutes to spare for Illuminations. Because so many people left during the storm, we had a front row view, with zero wait time. Although the globe wasn't working, it was still so magical! We caught the first bus back to POFQ! And we were wicked excited about our next day at the MK!
