Passporter 2007 Scrapbooking Challenge February*Closed Winner announced* - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I was inspired by today being Valentine's Day and I finally completed my page for the challenge. This was harder for me than I thought it would be! I tried to do something outside of my normal style so I used only 1 picture (this was a HUGE step for me!). Also the picture is black and white which is also something I don't usually do. This is my DD and her fiancee at his sister's wedding.

kmurburg!!!! Love, love, love the black and white photo on the pink background paper!!!! The little hearts on the side are a perfect touch. Great page.
Your effort to try new things produced a wonderful layout.

After days of shoveling snow, chipping ice, and baking Valentine's treats, I'm taking time to reply.
Thanks to all for the wonderful feeback - I'm an isolated scrapper (i.e., no one around me has been effectively bitten by the bug) - so I really appreciate being able to share and learn from everyone.
To answer some questions, yes, I had to cut the papers for the bottom portion of the design. That part is divided from the top by using a fiber strip. I also used that same fiber to create the tag and book. The letters are "funky" stickers. I had found the package of pink & red glittery hearts and had no idea what I was going to do with them until I started this project! It's difficult to see on the photo, but I used smaller "funky" letter stickers and put the year for each photo on the attached heart. I had trouble deciding what paper I wanted as my background - found this really funky red glittery paper. Never before would I even put red & pink together. But the heart stickers pulled those two colors together for me. SO I used the funky red glittery paper to cut Mickey ears for the corners of each photo!
The photos I used on the bottom were rather weak. The one of me with Mickey had started to yellow with age - this was my first Disney trip in '73! The one of my husband (but before we knew one another) was taken in '91 and he was an ant standing next to the castle. Thank goodness for PhotoShop to help me correct things!

Feeback for everyone
Thanks to all for the inspirations and sharing your designs! I'm trying to catch up on comments - hopefully I haven't left anyone out!
Nala - I love the visual flow of your layout. The design draws you deeper into the layout...first we see your daughter, then the word "heart" - then the eye just travels and explores from there! That's what makes a great layout!
DawnDenise - I like those chipboard hearts too. I haven't done anything with chipboard letters or designs. Do you use them a lot? Any suggestions?
Angelridout - I agree with what many have already said - what a wonderful tribute to your mom! I love the Victorian elements too!
Marcie & Tigger22- Love the silk flowers. I haven't gotten brave enough to add those to my designs (although the owner of the small, local scrapbook store always is showing me the new flowers and trying to get me to buy them!) I might have to add them to my "to do" list.
Portagethe cat - I'm amazed with the stamping. I walk by the stamping sections in craft stores with great curiosity - but avoid the temptation for a new craft. Hmmm, combine it with scrapping, sounds like justification for me to try it!
Ripkensnana - Loved the use of the baby photo. I think you said in another posting that you have many baby pix and are starting to work on a family heritage kind of album. Me too - genealogy is another bad addiction and I have collected pix of ancestors back to the mid-1800s. I scan the originals and then have prints made to use for scrapping...plus in PhotoShop, I take out folds, scratches, etc. But, I love the sepia tones and might convert every single photo for it to sepia. I'd love to know more about your progress. AND - where did you get the Disney honeymoon kit - is it one they sell at WDW?
Chrissi - Neat idea for a pocket. I'm always looking for new twists and ways to use pockets in my designs. Thanks for sharing!
Kmurburg - One photo is a huge step for me too. I always design by DPS; to design one page and to use one photo is a stretch for me too. But you've inspired me to try it sometime!
The heart is woven paper (it's woven front and back from handkerchief patterned paper and denim patterned paper) and it's made from just two pieces. I got the idea from FamilyFun.com. It's actually a paper basket that I just wove together and stuck to the page with some mini dots. I'm a shameless scraplifter. The lettering is Coluzzle's Uppercase Leere. (A Christmas gift from DH. )
Carol: I the pages from your wedding. I would love to see more pics from your wedding as it looks very unique and special!! I really want to do more with all my pictures from when I was kid. They sit in those old photo albums just waiting for me to stop doing Disney books.
Chrissi: Love the pocket page and the font. VERY cool! Definitely has a manly feel to it.
Karen: Good job on your page. I really like the heart accents. I had a hard time doing a one photo layout too. I don't do them that often (pay no attention to the fact that both challenge layouts have been one photo ) but am finally getting a feel for them.

Okay, I'm being too show-offy, what with four pages already posted here, but here's a link to another Heart page - these pix are of my grandmother and my father....they're about 90 or so years old. The sticker on the bottom picture reads "Momma's Boy". Had to add this - I think it's the best of the bunch....
Ripkensnana - That is such a sweet page! I love the lacey baby cap and borders! I love that it is your grandmother and your father as a baby! I wish I had some of those kind of photos that I could do a heritage album.
