My solo trip to the World - Booked and back in a week! COMPLETE - finally! 4/24!! - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I spent quite a bit of time in the Maharajah Jungle Trek; I took my first photo at 1:14 and left the trail at 1:41! First I'll share with you the photos I took of the actual attraction:
Komodo dragon
Fruit bats
Cool fountain
There is a hidden Mickey here...can you find it? If not, I'll show you!
The star of the show!
I have no idea what this is; a yak of some sort?
I just thought this sign was really interesting; you really feel like you could be walking through ancient ruins in Asia! And there are actually water fountains here, which I thought was a nice touch!
I tried to take pictures of the many props and decorations that I usually rush right by!
There is an aviary at the end of this attraction, but we have a nice aviary at home and I was getting hungry, so I didn't spend much time there.
In the next post, I'll share the results of my very first Hidden Mickey hunt!
I was brand-new to the world of Hidden Mickeys, and I was excited to get started. If you have Steve Barrett's HM guide (3rd edition), I'll match the picture with the clue number in the book.

This is lovely, and despite the fact that for some reason I can't see your photos, I am really enjoying the trip report.
I went to WDW from the UK in December 2008 as a volunteer with a local charity for a week, and had one day off in the middle of my week, which I spent at both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot - ON MY OWN! I have been to the World lots of times with various family members, but this was my first 'solo' experience, and it was really wonderful. Don't get me wrong, I do love spending time at WDW with my sister or daughter or DB, but there is something really special about having just one day to yourself, to go wherever you want and do things at your own pace, without having to fit in with other people. Amazing.
I just love the way you were able to slow down & take in all the little extras! I always TRY to do that, but usually end up caught up in all the excitement. Thanks for sharing your pictures with us!
How great that you spent some of your time hunting Hidden Mickeys! Those are great shots and I really enjoyed picking them out of your photos! Can't wait to see what else you did with your solo trip!

This is the first TR I have read and it is wonderful!! I am so jealous that you were able to take a solo trip to the World. I try and do one solo trip a year to Disneyland. I would LOVE to take a solo trip to WDW. Maybe in the future. I don't have any hang-ups about being by myself. Like you have shown in your pics you are able to slow down and take in the things you normally don't. I can't wait for your next installation of report and photos. Thanks so much for sharing!!
Here are a few more Hidden Mickey pictures from MJT:
Clue 27 page 115
Clue 29 - This one was really hard to find. I took a photo of the wall - getting some strange looks, of course - and had to go back later to see if I'd actually photographed the Hidden Mickey! On Steve's website, it actually shows him with eyes and a waving hand, but apparently they have changed it to the traditional "classic" hidden Mickey.
Clue 30
It was time for lunch, so I had a decision to make. I'd been to Flame Tree several times in the past, and really didn't want to eat outside. I considered Pizzafari, because it was indoors, but thought I might try something new this time. Before the trip, I'd put Yak & Yeti on my list of things to try, but the seating for the counter service location is outside, as well, so I decided to try to get into the table service location and pay out of pocket. I approached the CM at the door and asked how long for a table for just me. She suggested I check the bar for a seat, and if there weren't any seats available there, then it would probably be about 15 - 20 minutes. I didn't really care how long it took; I was indoors, it was air conditioned, just get me a beverage and I'd be all set!
I considered the Yak Attack that I'd heard to much about (Mango Daiquiri, Bacardi Light Rum, and Wildberry Flavors) but I hadn't eaten anything since the flight that morning; that combined with the heat and the humidity would probably not have good results. So I decided to have a Berry Cherry Limeade - Cherry and lime juice with Sprite. It was so refreshing and just what I needed! For my entree, I went with an appetizer: Pork Pot Stickers - pan seared or steamed, soy lime dipping sauce. They were okay; just what I needed to give me energy for some more Hidden Mickey hunting!
Sounds like you're really enjoying yourself--Thanks for all the pictures from your Hidden Mickey Hunt (one of my families favorite past times at the park!)
