As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

When I was there-- like Cheryl, also in 2012, you could get in line for FP at early opening, but the FP distribution didn't start until regular park opening time. It just baffled me that people would spend the entire early entry time standing in a non-moving line!
Well, I got "A Bug's Life" from the library yesterday, as DS is down with a fever. We watched it yesterday, and while I'm glad he will have context for A Bug's Land, it wasn't too impressive on our 17 inch non-flat screen. I'm just not much of a movie person...and I wondered about the great reviews from the critics on rottentomatoes. I think folks were still pretty amazed at computer animation at this time, the whole thing kind of seemed like a Toy Story knock off...down to the closing song by the same artist, but lacking the psychological interest of Buzz's delusional self-image.
OK, this is a PTR, not a movie review blog.... I'm just not much for movies in the best of cases, and I strongly prefer the musicals to other Disney offerings. Oh, and technically, Disney releases the Miyazaki's in English, I like those too, with the exception of Totaro, wasn't crazy about that one.

On to more AM planning before the boys get up. I'm still planning on A Bug's Land. Not sure if DS would enjoy It's Tough...he still won't set foot on Pirates, he gets spooked easily, especially in the dark.
I can't say A Bug's Life is one of my favourite Disney movies - and as for It's Tough To Be A Bug, I'd say if Pirates is an issue, forget it. We always forget how scary it is for kids and every time we see it, parents have to take their kids out, they're so terrified...

Yup...This is what I have read. I'm not going to risk him freaking out and refusing to go to all shows and/or dark rides. Since movies aren't really my thing, I'm more of a "recreated environment" gal, we'll probably give this a miss.
As for A Bug's Life, though it didn't do much for me, yesterday DS told my parents that he loved it and even looked hurt when I said it wasn't my favorite. So, I'm still glad we watched it.
Speaking of movies, we saw Saving Mr. Banks last night. We had watched Mary Poppins about 2 weeks ago and will see the play put on by the local high school in 2 more weeks. I have the 1st book from the library. This is fun! In homeschooling we call this block learning aka unit studies.

I based this on avoiding Extra Magic Hours, since we are off-site guests. My DS has done better when he doesn't have many days in the parks in a row. He doesn't have the stamina or interest that his DMom has at this time! This is for the week beginnning Nov 30th.If you notice something I'm missing, please let me know! I'm including the park hours from last year as well, assuming they will be similar this year. As you will see, I'm now feeling set on 5 day passes!
Tue-CA (9am-8pm) Commando touring in AM, WOC at night
Wed-rest day
Th-CA (9am-8pm) Frozen Fun Focus! May move to DL in evening if desired.
Fr-rest day
Sa-DL (8am-12pm) May use Magic Morning at DL, but that's EARLY! When crowds get BAD, which they will, do TS Island, Disney Railroad, Innoventions, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Tiki Room, River Boat...You get the idea. May hop to CA (8am-11pm)
Sun-Rest day, Pre-pack
Mon-Last Day in Parks. Do whatever DS wants. (DL 9am-10pm; CA 9am-8pm)
Tue-Leave town before dawn for the LONG drive home
Wed-Back to the daily grind at home!
I spent all day yesterday planning this!!! I have more detailed plans for the first and second DCA days at this point too. Looking forward to seeing stuff we missed in 2013, when my sis lead us to the must-dos and then we hopped back to our home park.

Great plans! That time of year is so magical in the parks when it's decorated for Christmas!!!
I do like visiting at this time!!! That said, I just saw a picture of the castle with the Diamond Jubilee overlay. I hope that is still up for Christmas!!!!!! I, for one am not a fan of the Christmas overlay on the castle turrets. It's just a sheet with painted rocks on it during the day. Yes the lights are nice at night, but the fabric look during the day messes with my suspension of disbelief. The jubilee overlay allows you to see the actual shingles on the roof...so, here's hoping! My favorite Christmas decorations are in the Jungle Cruise queue area and iasw. Oh, and visiting the Jingle Jangle Jamboree and seeing Santa and favorite characters in their Christmas finery.
We bumped up with our tax return, and now I'm over 50% to my savings goal. This is especially significant because only 10% of my vacation savings is going to Disney. 90% is going to our SE Asia trip, planned for Summer 2016. So, yay for us!!!!
