Finding Walt: a DL TR: Update 2/23/12 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Check out the walk through in the castle, I read about it here (I think Cheryl's trip report) It's really cool, in all the trips I have made to Disneyland I had never seen it before, just sawit for the first time a few weeks ago.
Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough
Relive one of the most beloved Disney legends as you stroll through the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle. Wander the winding passageways where the timeless tale of Princess Aurora and the evil Maleficent has been brought to life in 3-dimensional displays. Inspired by the original Eyvind Earle artwork used in the film, the classic attraction has been enhanced with fantastical features and stunning special effects. Sleeping Beauty's Winter Castle
With snow-capped turrets, sparkling icicles and shimmering lights, the original Disney theme park castle is a crystallized citadel to behold during Holidays at the Disneyland Resort. For generations families have gathered below the steeples of Sleeping Beauty's Winter Castle to bask in its Holiday wonder. History
Sleeping Beauty Castle opened on July 17, 1955. The castle's design was based on the real Bavarian castle, Neuschwanstein. Guests could not actually walk through the castle until 1957. The famed drawbridge has only been used twice — once at the opening of the park in 1955 and again in 1983 at the rededication of Fantasyland.
Guest Policies
Supervise children at all times. Children under age 7 years must be accompanied by a person age 14 years or older.
This attraction requires Guests to negotiate narrow, winding stairs.
Guests in wheelchairs can experience a virtual version of the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough via high-definition screens in a magically themed room.

Love the Holiday Tour - definitely a great addition. I love your plans for finding Walt. I only made it to WDW once as a kid...but I remember Mr. Toad, was so upset when I came back as an adult and it was no longer there
Everything is coming together so perfectly...sounds like it is going to be such a great trip.
Heather, You should definately go to the Tam O'Shanter if your schedule allows. It is one of my parents favorites (they live near there). They have nothing but good things to say about it. I remember going there once 9 years ago. It was very yummy!

Me and the family Magic Kingdom New Years Eve December 29, 2009-January 9th, 2010
Oh boy! I'm stumped. The weather right now in Anaheim is super variable. It's warm during the day with highs in the mid to low 60s and lows in the low 40s to upper 30s. It's pretty much the same weather as in New Orleans right now and while I do spend about an hour outside each day--it isn't the same as being outside all day long. I know I need to pack layers, but I'm not sure what I'm going to pack as far as outerwear that's easy to take on and off. I've been wearing a turtleneck to work with a sweatshirt around my waist, but I don't know that if that's going to be enough at night. I guess I need to start looking for a hat and gloves and scarf. I have no idea what happened to the set I bought last year--things have a funny way of disappearing around here!
I'm usually a flip flop girl, but I don't want my toes to freeze so I've been breaking in a new pair of saucony jazz sneakers. I'm sure my flip flops will be fine during the day.
Here's the biggest problem, I'm flying Delta out--which means that I've either got to pay to check a bag or fit everything I need from home into my carry on and personal item. I'll be gone a whole week, but I'm not trying to spend a fortune because the week after I come back I'll have a teeny tiny paycheck and I need to keep that in mind. Not checking a bag almost pays for my hotel room on the first night! I'm flying Southwest on the way home so I can pack an extra bag in my carry on to check on the way home if I need to! A visit to the Cast Member store at the Disney Studios almost means I have to have that second bag!
I'm thinking that the solution is doing a load of laundry once I get checked in to the Grand Californian-there are free washers for DVC use right?
Packing light for that kind of weather is tough. The super-low temps will probably be around 2-3am, so maybe it'll still be in the 50's while you're out. Still cold to be outside all the time, though. I'd pack gloves and a hat or earmuffs and layers. There should be free laundry at the Grand. Good thing you're flying Southwest on your return! I'll be having similar packing problems when I do my trip next summer-- DL will be HOT and Alaska will be COLD!
That's the thing about SoCal, it may be warm in the daylight, but at night it can get chilly! Although we just heard they are supposed to have 85 mph Santa Ana winds. That could make it HOT! Hope that's done by the time you arrive!

True, true, but I think these Santa Anas are going to be the cold kind. It's HOWLING right now, and the wind woke me up in the middle of the night. This is probably the strongest the winds have been in quite some time It's a cold wind, though, so I would say layers are best. There's always a chance that it will suddenly (no joke) become 10 degrees warmer than forecast, but I think it's safe to say for the next few weeks it's going to be relatively cool but comfortable during the day, but cold at night.

2013 WDW trip here!
2011 trip to Hawaii here!
Yes, we are having crazy winds right now. Scheduled to end by Saturday, I hope as we fly out on Sunday moring. There have been issues at the airport due to power outages and some incoming flights were diverted to other airports. These are not our typical Santa Anas as the weather is cold, predicted to be 50s - 60s today and tomorrow. I'm about an hour from Anaheim, so don't know exactly how its affecting them as where I am is pretty calm this morning, but areas within 1/2 hour of me have closed schools for the day.
I think a scarf and gloves may be needed at night, as it does cool down quite a bit at night. And yes, you will have access to free washers at the Grand Californian DVC.
Have a great trip - looking forward to hearing about it upon your return.
I noticed when I was there in October the temps were in the 70's, but once you were standing in the sun, it was HOT!!! But once that sun went down, it was chilly. I had a hard time packing too.
