Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!

Saturday 22 April – part two: A sighting of Mickey!

We saw some of the stars on the Walk of Fame and in particular, there was one I just had to find.

Then we started walking back down Hollywood Boulevard.

We eventually got to our destination – Jane’s House, about four blocks down from the Hollywood and Highland, which is the last Victorian house from Hollywood Boulevard. Such a shame when you see how it used to look. You can’t help but wish they’d preserved a few more houses from that era.

We checked in with Starline tours, who we were taking the guided tour of Los Angeles with and we were so early that their ticket booth wasn’t even open yet, so we waited a few minutes and then checked in. They do get you there early. We thought the tour was leaving at 9.00, but no, it didn’t officially start until 9.30 and wouldn’t leave until 9.15 and my, it was cold. This was the first day that we’ve been cold this vacation and it was a damp cold, like we get at home as well, so we were desperate to get on the bus. This bit wasn’t very well organised. We waited at the bus that we knew would be taking us and then we were told to line up somewhere else behind other people.

Fortunately they were going on another tour (they do a total of nine!) and we were able to get the front seats, always a bonus for me, both for taking photos and because I sometimes get travel sick if I’m not in the front seat of a vehicle.

We were introduced to Dave or Pappy, as everyone calls him and he was quite a character, full of stories and history. A lot of people really got into it as well and there was some really good banter going on, especially when we said that we wanted to get a green card and come over here to work. He told Mark that he needed to marry an American girl and just sort it out with “mama” – meaning me! He really was a class act!

Our first stop was the Hollywood Bowl and I didn’t really know anything about this before our stop, so I was fascinated to learn all about it. We couldn’t believe how few people it seated. OK, so it’s a unique venue, but it only takes 18,000 and that’s not much compared to sports stadiums that seat between 40,000 – 60,000 for similar concerts by groups like the Rolling Stones. We were told that we could get a view of the famous Hollywood sign, if we climbed high enough, so off we all went. We must’ve been mad. Our legs were killing us by the time we could see the thing.

Our guide Pappy

Notice Mark climbing up at the bottom of the shot!

And the shot we did all the climbing for!

We drove back to Manns Chinese Theatre, which was our next stop. We didn’t bother with that, having done it all already and instead walked a bit further along Hollywood Boulevard and then we went for a quick shop to get our niece a birthday present, as she turned 16 today and I had promised her something from Los Angeles. We found her a nice pink Hollywood top – and I’m happy to report that she loved it.

Mark playing the fool along Hollywood Boulevard

We were then back on the bus for quite a chunk of time, which took us through the rest of Hollywood:

The monument to Hollywood women

Next: ooh, aah, Jimmy Choo!

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!

Great update! I love the pictures. I've never been to Hollywood twice, m and it really shows how Hollywood is more of a fantasy than a reality. Just like at MGM, it's the "Hollywood that never was, and always will be". It's just not as glamorous as most people think.

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!

Awe, the Hollywood Bowl, brings back lots of childhood memories. My mom use to take us to classic concerts there.

When my younger sister and I were little kids we use to run up to the top row just to see the Hollywood sign There's no way we would be able to do that no

Again another great update

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!

Saturday 22 April – part three: ooh, aah, Jimmy Choo!

It was all very bold and brash in Hollywood and when we drove into Beverley Hills, the difference was noticeable. All of a sudden, it was very classy and you could see where the money goes. We were soon into the Beverley Hills shopping area and all the names that you’ve heard about. Everyone so often, one of the women would sigh “Jimmy Choo” or “Chanel” as they saw the shop names. We didn’t get a chance to stop here, as the place they usually park was already taken and I think it’s probably just as well, as I doubt we would’ve got some of our lot back on the bus again once they hit those shops.

Beverley Hills Civic Center

See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil

You can’t go anywhere without seeing a film crew!

As we headed out of Beverley Hills, we saw a Ferrari dealership, one selling Jaguar cards and the biggest BMW dealership I have ever seen in my life that went on for a block! We also spotted various very nice cars out on the road. In particular, all the guys started oohing and aahing when they saw a yellow Lamborghini. It’s a different way of living out here, I can tell you. You can suddenly see how the movie stars spend their money.

Our next stop was La Brea Tar Pits, which were formed around 42,000 years ago by oil rising to the earth’s surface and gelling Models here show how animals became trapped in the tar and their remains were then fossilised. We only had time to jump off for a quick photo, which is a shame, as I would’ve loved a few more minutes here, as this is fascinating.

The oil still bubbling to the surface

Near here is the Miracle Mile, so called because it was a miracle that anyone could build anything on the tar pits. I dread to think what they had to go through to build here. They’re adding on a new part on the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and the work there to remove methane gas is amazing Needless to say, the whole project is going very slowly.

We had a short drive to our next stop, which was Farmers Market for lunch. I had heard about this place and that the food here was good, but I didn’t realise how good. When we got off the bus, we quickly found the food court and I was decided immediately when I saw a seafood place and a seafood salad with papaya – that’s sold!

This has to be some of the best fruit and vegetables I’ve ever tasted. The baby carrots were out of this world and the papaya was really tasty.

Mark had a lot more trouble deciding what to eat and I think he wandered around for quite a while before finally deciding on a chilli dog. As we sat out there, it was pretty cold. Again, I was convinced that we would get wet as we ate, but no, nothing. I’m not complaining!

Next: I think that woman’s with us and where have I seen that building before?
