As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wednesday 30 October – part two: well, this is an unusual sight…
I headed downstairs at one point to get some photos of the airport outside. Once again, there was building work going on here. Good grief, do they never stop?
I also checked out the food options, which were pretty good:
In fairness, I only got some cheese, as I wasn’t that hungry after our earlier breakfast, but you certainly could make a nice breakfast for yourself out of the choices on offer here.
We sat there for a while on our individual laptops (I know, sad right? ), before ordering some hot food. I got eggs Florentine, a poached egg on a bed of spinach, topped with Hollandaise sauce and served with malted brown bread, which was very nice, although I didn’t think the bread went with it, and I ended up leaving it.
Mark had the hot bacon roll served with lettuce, tomato and mayo, which he wasn’t that impressed with, as he said it was very dry.
Food is obviously not their forte, but fortunately we felt as if we’d already had our money’s worth, being able to enjoy a quiet atmosphere and work on our laptops.
I also took the opportunity to get a glass of Bailey’s which you can see in the photo of my food. Well, heck, it’s included – so why not? And I’m sure it’s five o’clock somewhere… perhaps Hawaii?
By the time it got to 10:00am, we knew the gate would be opening up fairly soon, so we really stopped doing anything, and waited for that. Anyone who’s read one of my trip reports before knows what usually happens at this point… and it did again. I headed off to the restrooms, and by the time I came out of there, the gate was open, so off we went.
For once, it wasn’t a mile away, and we were there in literally five minutes. While the line for Economy to get into the gate area was snaked around, there was no-one in line for the Upper Class, Premium Economy and Flying Club Gold line, so we walked straight up, headed inside and grabbed seats near the departure area.
About 15 minutes later, they called forward the first boarding group, which included us, and we were the second group to board. As we boarded, we were told we were upstairs, and I said to the stewardesses “you have no idea how tough it was getting this…” and boy I wasn’t kidding!
We quickly found our seats, and the one real downside of them was that they didn’t have much room for our hand luggage, as the storage areas to the side of our seats and above were really small, so we took out everything we needed, and then stashed the cases up at the back of the upstairs cabin. It is a bit weird now, as up here are also Economy passengers, which I’m not sure like, and I’m trying not to be a snob here, but each class has their own restrooms, yet we ended up with passengers consistently trekking up from Economy to use ours, which was a bit annoying..
We were treated to a very unusual sight once we were on board – this isn’t something you see very often, so I asked if it was Ok to take photos, and was told it was, so off we went!
It’s such a shame that there’s now a whole generation of children growing up who won’t get the chance to go up and see the cockpit during a flight, as both of us remember doing that when we were kids, and it was such a great experience.
Because we’d boarded quite early, we sat there for some time before we flew, but you know what, that’s Ok, because we’re in our seats, and ready to go. we took some photos of the view outside and inside to pass the time…
Then our complimentary glasses of Bucks Fizz arrived.
When we did set off, it was only about 10 minutes after our departure time, and although we stopped for a while, once we set off, we literally were straight on to the runway and off, which was a pleasant surprise.
It was about now we had the safety demonstration, but today it was a completely manual one with no video. I remember a stewardess telling us once that they have to do one of these every so often. Well, when it came to getting the oxygen mask over the head, the girl got it on fine, but then it got tangled up in her hair trying to get it off. She was trying to stay professional, but we all started laughing, and set her off, and after that she couldn’t keep a straight face. I have to say it was one of the most entertaining demonstrations I’ve had in some time as a result…
It was an absolutely beautiful day, and I was able to get some wonderful photos as we taxied out….
I know this one is blurred, but I just love the shadow of the plane in this shot
Great start!!! I agree with you about kids and the cockpits, having grown up traveling overseas quite a bit we always thought it was fun to check out the cockpit and meet the pilots!

The lounge looks lovely - what a relaxing way to start a vacay. Nothing like that around here, unfortunately.
Between the Bailey's and the Bucks, I'm guessing you were one relaxed girl ... is the Bucks Fizz like a Mimosa?

Now that's a relaxing way to start off a long flight. Since when is economy upstairs? Maybe they needed to add more "cheap" seats to make more money? It seems very odd to me. Even so, you had a hard time getting your seat assignments, so it seems Premium is still in high demand.

Great start!!! I agree with you about kids and the cockpits, having grown up traveling overseas quite a bit we always thought it was fun to check out the cockpit and meet the pilots!
I remember as well it was a good way for parents to ensure good behaviour, as they could also bribe you by saying "if you're good, you can go up to the cockpit..."

On the way home, the Premium seats were actually the first let off the plane, ahead of Upper Class, because of the way they configured it downstairs. The whole set-up on the new planes is all a bit odd really, as the idea always used to be Upper Class off first, then Premium, then Economy....

It is - if I was them, I'd add more Premium seats, as every time we fly Premium it's always full and heck, they get much money for those seats than Economy...
