Saving the Magic (with Cam and Luke plus Morgan) COMPLETED - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Great start! Happy that the flight went well for Morgan! She is so cute! Honestly, I felt a little emotional and teary myself reading your first installment of the trip. I will definitely miss the pictures of Stefanie and her smiling face during this report but that just shows what a wonderful impact she made on so many of us. So glad that Morgan is getting to share this trip with you!

Love Morgan's unbridled enthusiasm...glad it was a smooth flight and that the goodie bags were appreciated by the crew.
Danielle
The crew was awesome in their reception of the goodie bags. Just wait for more of their response to these little bags.

Tears and smiles will be the norm for this TR.

All my writing at the moment seems to be a big part of my healing process. Good thing I like to write!

Luke and I are still working our way through Dr. Peppers given to Stefanie while she was in the hospital. But every sip reminds me of her.

I seriously had to laugh at the Hawaii comment, though. No Morgan, Hawaii is the OTHER side of the country, LOL.
BJ
I've got that same happy and sad feeling and it accompanied me and Luke the entire trip.
Hang in there, Cam! I can't imagine how tough this all has been on your family. Glad Morgan has been a comfort to you both!
Stefanie touched so many lives of family, friends, and even strangers. We all feel a hole where our little buddy is supposed to be.

Sounds like ya'll are off to a great start...can't wait to read more!
I remember that same excitement and anxiety on my own first flight, so I was glad that once we were up in the air that she looked at me and said, "This isn't bad."

I've had folks ask me if it was a fun trip. My answer is that is not how I'd describe this trip. We did have fun, but it was also a hard trip.

Moving is probably a better descriptor of this trip report.

I wish it were that easy to get to Hawaii, too. Luke isn't sold on that long flight, but I'm working on him by suggesting that we fly to LA and stay at the Grand Californian for a few days and visit Disneyland. Then we could fly from there to Hawaii.

Glad Morgan enjoyed her first flight. Did you have any trouble getting seats together? We are flying with Southwest for the first time in November & I'm nervous about getting to sit together. We have only flown with airlines that we could chose seats when we booked.
We've never had any trouble getting seats together when we've flown SWA. We do the Early Bird Check In, so we get a good spot in line. Our seats this year were in Row 8.

(May 31-June 8th) Stefanie inspired us to make goodie bags for our flight crew on our trip. It was one of the highlights of my daughter's flight when she handed them to the flight crew. I thought of your sweetheart as I started the tradition with my daughter Lily. Looking forward to reading your trip report! You probably had the ponchos out as much as we did!
Edit: Here's a copy of the poem I included in the goodie bags. I hope that it makes you smile to know that Stefanie started a little pay it forward tradition in our family.
My name is Lily Kate and I’m so happy to be on this flight.
I’ll fasten my seatbelt and not leave my parents’ sight.
I have been begging and waiting for this exciting day.
I’ve never flown before and I want to get to Disney to play.
My mom promised me you would have peanuts and a drink.
I’ll be on my very best behavior and not cause a stink.
But mostly I want to give you a smile and this card
Because I know that sometimes your job can be a little hard.
So here are some sweet goodies for you, flight crew
A tiny token of thanks for the great job that you do!
Your poem is terrific! So glad you have started the goodie bags as a new tradition for Lily!

I'm glad Morgan did so well on the flight. It's always fun to see first experiences!
I'm sure this TR will be a difficult one to write. Thank you for sharing your trip memories with us.
My sister June couldn't believe how much Morgan grew while away for 2 weeks. She is in a growth spurt for sure.

It makes me feel like I'm a big baby because I'm nervous as I just booked our flight for September. (And I haven't flown since 1991 - so kinda nervous). And she had never been to BK? Wow! That's almost unheard of for an 11 year old anymore.
I should have mentioned why she hadn't been to BK before. My sister June is very much into healthy eating, and she's an awesome cook, so they very seldom have fast food.

She was amazed that she got a goodie bag, too. Stefanie had received several from the crew over the years.

I don't think Morgan had more than one bad moment on this trip and you'll get that one in graphic detail when I finally get to June 10.
So glad to see you have started your TR. I can't wait to follow along!
Thanks for joining in!

This trip was NOT what we had pictured or planned at all, but we learned a lot about ourselves and our future Disney trips by going ahead with it.

I am so glad you were able to start this trip report Cam. Sounds like you guys were honoring Stefanie very early in this trip. I have been away from the boards a bit but I will be checking in more often to keep up with your updates.
The only way I could go on this particular trip was to honor Stefanie, and that's what kept it from being unbearable.

I wouldn't say she was a willing participant in doing all the things Stefanie liked to do as you'll see further into the TR. She and Stefanie are two very different personalities, and I had to let go, at least for this trip, of some of the things that I had grown to love with Stefanie. Luke and I will get to do those things on future trips.

I hope that this Disney trip is a little healing to you & Luke as it was for my DH when he lost his Dad.
Now with my observations.. Morgan is only 11YO, she looks much older. Loved her enthusiasm on her plane ride
looking forward to more..
I was hesitant to write a TR as Stefanie is the charmer of the three of us. I think Luke and I are a bit boring without her. But our healing process is something worth sharing. Morgan does look much older than 11. I'm sure by next summer she'll be taller than me.

I'm hoping you were able to recall fond memories of Stefanie throughout the trip and that along with the tears there were smiles. The healing process is long and hard, but one day at a time. One memory at a time...
One day at a time is the only way to do it. for following along.

I'm so happy you started your TR, Cam and glad that the trip accomplished some healing for you and Luke. I look forward to reading about your trip, you've always captivated me with your writing, you do it so well.
Tell Luke that stopping in Disneyland on the way to Hawaii or the way back (both ways?) certainly breaks up the trip quite significantly. Especially if you do it on the way back, it's night when you leave Hawaii and you awaken in California and off to GC...sweet!
Great report so far. How cool that Morgan got to visit the cockpit. Glad the goodie bags were a success. OK how on earth did Morgan's parents get her to the age of 11 without one visit to Burger King????? What - how did they dod that - I must know.
Cam, I'm so happy to see you've started your trip report! I know it will be different, it already is in just one installment, but I'm really looking forward to hearing about your moving and healing journey. I hope that among the tears there were plenty of smiles as well!
Morgan seems like such a sweetie, I imagine she helped keep things a little happier for you both. I'm so glad she enjoyed her first flight!
Thank you for sharing yourselves with us once again!

I can only imagine what a heartfelt journey this must have been for you and Luke, thank you so much for sharing this with us and I hope this trip while bittersweet also allowed for some healing. I am so glad that Morgan was able to join you, her smile is contagious and I am sure that it brought smiles to both you and Luke during some very hard times.
Loved all the firsts that Morgan is experiencing already, first BK and the plane ride. Glad everyone enjoyed their goodie bags!!
