The trip of many changes... TRIP REPORT UPDATED 4/25 - Page 49 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I loved the outfits on the characters when they came out to do their dance in the atrium! Glad you enjoyed Coco so much. I saw the preview for it in One Man's Dream and thought it looked like a great movie. I'll have to watch it on one of the many movie subscriptions we have at home! Your breakfast did look like they had some great choices that morning! Glad you were able to at least get a bit of a swim in too. The rainbow was so pretty. I would have enjoyed the craft project too. Did they survive the flight home?
I can imagine how hard it was to swim in that water! A work out indeed. Breakfast well deserved!
The yoda and R2D2 are so cute! Was it a full room? Seems like it would be a popular activity!

What a nice way to start the day!! Those crafts are so cute but I'm afraid I would have found Yoda a bit of a challenge!! Let's just say that my scrapbooks are very homey!!
Those paper crafts are so cute! How did they fare on the trip home?
Well, they're still 3D... sort of. Yoda's head had to be re-fixed to his body, so not quite a bust. Mark did steal more of the papers, so I could make more if I wanted. Thus far, I haven't....

Nice shots of the rainbow from your deck and timing is everything as they can be gone so quickly! A lot of fun at the crafts class and you seemed to enjoy it! The end result was excellent and you did so well with R2-D2 and Yoda! They are keepers and should be displayed in your home in a place for you to admire and show off to all!

Saturday 20 January – part two: they’re forcing us in there…
We came back to the room to find a note from Julia and Mark, saying Cabana’s would be closed for dinner tonight. I couldn’t believe it. Talk about forcing you into the main restaurants. We checked and yes they were right. They’d suggested meeting at Triton’s for lunch instead, so I nipped up to their room and left them a return note, saying that we’d need to make a few minutes later, as we had the chocolate and liquor tasting. I was a bit annoyed with the timing of that, as Triton’s was only open from midday to 1:15pm and our tasting was at 12:15pm for an hour. Oh well, we’ll have to leave a few minutes early…
Still annoyed about being forced to go back to Animator’s Palate for the drawing show, which I really do not like, as I feel you get forced into drawing something, I had a look at the menu to see if that made me feel better. It didn’t. It had to be the most limited menu I’ve ever seen on a Disney ship. That did it for me. We went straight up to see Luca and begged for a table for dinner at Palo. It didn’t take much begging, as it turned out he had tables going whenever we want, so we opted for 6:30pm. Sorted!
We returned to the room for some down time and by now the ship was pitching quite a bit. At the appointed time, we headed down to the Cadillac Lounge for our chocolate and liquor tasting. We were there a bit early and the couple in front of us were taking their chances as walk-ups and they lucked out, as obviously someone didn’t make it.
I enjoyed this, but not as much as when we did it before. To me, they didn’t set it out properly. This is what we were greeted with:
The two on the left went together and the third ones along did, but the rest didn’t. It’s all a bit weird. The individual chocolate leaves were a bit pointless as well, as I think we only had two as part of the tasting and we ate the rest of them at the end. We weren’t going to let them go to waste.
The first one we tried was a Moet rose champagne and this was just plain nasty when you tried it at first. I was shocked, given Moet is not a cheap brand. We then tried it with the chocolate and honestly, I didn’t think it was much better.
Next up was a red wine. I don’t remember the name, but it came from John Lasseter’s vineyard and it was Ok. Here we had to try it with the chocolate on the extreme right, which was a bit bizarre. That did work quite well together.
The third one was, by far, my favourite. It was a tawny port and you had it with the parmigiana, although they did at one point get you to try it with that and the caramel chocolate, which didn’t work for me. I love port and cheese, having developed a taste for it, after our local French restaurant started to offer it as an option.
Finally, we had a whiskey and I dislike whiskey about as much as I remember. I tried it with the chocolate and it was a bit more palatable, but frankly, not much. It’s just not my thing. I ended up handing most of mine to Mark and he happily polished it off.
With that, we were done. We’d been opposite a couple from Missouri and he really wasn’t into his alcohol, but they both enjoyed the port and we both had a feeling they might be purchasing some in the future.
Does seem weird they would schedule the tasting smack in the middle of lunch. Great thinking to move to Polo for dinner, glad they had an opening for you.
