As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I hear you on being tired of shorts. I've been so excited to break out my long sleeve t-shirts and other fall clothes this week. Sounds like you're going to be busy the next few days-that should really make time fly!
I always love the approach of the colder weather and love switching to fall and winter clothing. I stop short at coats, boots and mittens, though.... those I wish I could do without! We've had highs in the 40s for the past two days, cold and rainy. You accomplished a lot this week! SO, SO close now!
Enjoy yourself at the wedding--and don't worry about packing, somehow we always seem to manage to get it done! But I am totally with you about cleaning the house before departure. There's something so nice about coming back to a tidy home, clean sheets, (and no funky trash smells,) with a casserole in the freezer that's ready to pop into the oven for that first evening back!

You sound like me! Today flew by, but I'm actually hoping that tomorrow slows down a little so I can not only get stuff done, but relax.

I wasn't actually ready for the cold weather the past two days with highs only in the 50s. I was thinking more like low 70s. Thankfully, tomorrow the high is supposed to be back up in the mid 70s.

I don't mind coats for a while, but only a while. I'm still wondering how I'm going to dress to walk outside in the winter. I've told Luke we may have to consider going back to our church's gym as arthritic joints do not like the cold.

Absolutely, except for the casserole in the freezer, but now you've gotten me thinking how nice that would be.

Jeans and long sleeves are one of my favorite outfits.
Tomorrow arrived with temperatures in the upper 40s. Brrr! A little colder than usual for early October in Kentucky. I prepared our usual Saturday breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes. We ate, and our usual routine would be to walk immediately afterwards, but the temperature how risen only one degree to 50. In fact the furnace came on while we were eating. Finally, around 10:00 we headed out to run errands first, hoping for a few more degrees of heat. Our first stop was Hallmark to pick up the last of the ornaments we had pre-ordered. Unfortunately, not enough of the Chip and Dale limited edition ornaments were sent to our store, so I couldn’t get that one. But all the others were pre-packaged for me. Then we ran to Kohl’s as I had some Kohl’s bucks that needed to be used by today or they’d be lost. Kohl’s had Cuddle Duds socks on sale and they are so soft and warm with colder weather coming. Luke and I both browsed the store, but with the trip coming up we didn’t want to spend more than the bucks we already had. From here, we were off to Target to pick up the wedding gift I’d pre-ordered. Since we’ve retired, we hardly ever shop on Saturdays, and we’d forgotten just how busy stores can be on that day. So each one of these stops took way longer than I expected as we waited in lines everywhere.
When we finished up at Target, we came outside to a light but steady rain in addition to the cold. Luke asked if I could manage walking in it or would I rather stop somewhere for lunch. I debated a moment and then decided with the windshield wipers swishing away that eating sounded good. It was 12:45 and the pancakes were long gone. We went to McDonalds as Luke was wanting an Egg McMuffin now that there is an all day breakfast menu. I got my usual grilled chicken snack wrap and small fries. As I was getting our drinks, a young man was waiting to refill his large drink. I moved to give him room so we could both get drinks. He seemed very sweet, but mentioned to me that he was on his work lunch break and was just drinking Dr. Pepper as he couldn’t buy any food here on food stamps. Luke wondered what was taking me so long, so I explained when we got to our table that the young man in the section behind us might be hungry. Luke had ordered two Egg McMuffins because it was only 11 cents more to get the second due to a special. He asked if I wanted to give the second to the young man. I grabbed it and quickly walked over to him. The surprise and gratitude in his face were rewarding. I also pretty sure he was a former student. So I think it was meant for us to be there and to buy an extra sandwich even though we knew we didn’t need it. By the way as we were walking in from the car, the rain picked up, so another reason eating was the best decision.
It was now nearly 1:30, but the rain was gone. We headed to our city greenbelt, parked, and headed off on our daily adventure. Soon after we started, Luke suggested that we only do a 5K today and save the 4+ mile/6K+ for tomorrow when our high is supposed to be 76 degrees. We felt a few more sprinkles, but stayed pretty much dry for the next 52 minutes. Back home I dealt with a load of laundry, wrapped the wedding present (no easy task at it was an awkward shape), and then it was time to get ready for the wedding. By 4:30 we were headed to the church. Beautiful wedding followed by a delicious and relaxing reception afterwards. A little before 7:00, we called it quits and as we got in the car Luke asked if we could go home now. Now we’re just relaxing, catching up on new TV shows and looking forward to not having plans tomorrow. I may finally get some clothes pulled out.
As far as that young man is concerned, you were certainly in the right place at the right time.
Get that packing started! It's almost time for Disneyland!

Now we’re just relaxing, catching up on new TV shows and looking forward to not having plans tomorrow. I may finally get some clothes pulled out.
