Florida flowers and Caribbean cruising - the trip report! THIS SECTION COMPLETED 4/12 - Page 48 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I really must try getting to Top of the World one day....looks like a great spot and your drink looked yummy!
You mean you haven't made it yet? Yes, you must - it's a lovely place to relax.

I also need to try CG - I've read so many good reviews, but figured it was a better option when it's just DH & I, no kids. Last trip we had the players right, but with F&WF, there was no way I could've done a dinner like that.
I hear you on that - and definitely it's a special place to enjoy when it's just adults. I don't suppose you'll be doing Food and Wine again next year? My plans have changed (the unexpected booking of a Baltic cruise in June 2016 may have had something to do with that... ) and now our Eastern Canada/WDW trip is likely to be October/November for Food and Wine again. Just mentioning...
California Grill is one of our Top 3 favorites. It's were we went for my 40th birthday dinner & it was superb. Your sushi choices were the ones we had as well & I had to fight Lottie for the California Roll & the tempura roll because she LOVED them LOL.
What a great start to the evening, Being on "Top of the World" and visting with new friends.
Dinner seemed realxed but I have had those experiences when you just get there and realize...."wait I am not that hungry"
Those Olive-oil potatoes....Angel had them on our past trip there and loved them. How great to hear about the service, definitely a big jump up but it sounds like she was made for her new role
The Top of the World lounge is such a comfortable and beautiful locale. You got some great sunset shots from there. Too bad you all were already too fully to totally enjoy CF. Still a nice dining experience.
Of course you should have a sunset cocktail to accompany that gorgeous sunset! The few times that we visited Top of the World, it was not busy at all...until about 20 minutes before Wishes! Then it's packed!

Yep. It was marathon weekend in january that I was there, and yes it was about 30-45 minutes prior to Wishes and it was pretty full already!

Finally all caught up (sometimes you just need an entire afternoon with no interruptions).
When I saw the British Isles itinerary, I wondered if you were going to be able to go. Sorry you won't be on Disney, and I agree that they really are pricing themselves so high that most people can't take them. We are in a Cat 11B - inside standard -(teeny tiny) stateroom, but it was the only way I could begin to justify it. I considered another cruiseline (we do have status on Princess), but my heart just wasn't in it. Now to start saving $$ to cover the cruise, RT airfare, excursions and all the other STUFF we do on board.

So you're on the British Isles cruise then? Good for you! We'd decided already that we wanted a veranda and the prices for those were just crazy, especially when I compare them to the likes of the Caribbean and Alaska. I even looked at using DVC points, but my goodness, that would've been more than two years' worth gone. Maybe one day, like Alaska, the prices will come down and we can do it then, but Disney have now lost us for the Baltics, as we'll have been there, done that. My heart was set on Disney, but when I saw the deal we could get with Celebrity, that sold me - so much already included when we're on board. One day, we'll make it to platinum on Disney, it's just going to take a bit longer now.
Saturday 21 February – part thirteen: I didn’t know I’d be able to see that from here!
We headed back to the room, and I got some night-time shots of the view outside…
Now I was not expecting to see much of the Celebrate the Magic show, figuring you’d need to be closer to the castle to see it, but not a bit of it, as these photos hopefully prove:
Then we waited for Wishes, figuring there’s no way we’d sleep through it, and I think we were right. Have they made the bangs louder in this? At times, it felt like the building was shaking!
Once that was done, we did head to bed, as we were shattered, and it would be an early start tomorrow to cheer on the runners.
The weather today was cooler in the morning, but warmer later on with sunshine and temperatures in the low 70s. The best thing today was how quiet it was in the Magic Kingdom first thing. The worst thing today was how full we were for the California Grill. The funniest thing today was the bacon incident with Piglet, who’s of course stuffed with fluff! Today we tried watching the Festival of Fantasy parade And the result was we absolutely loved it. The most magical moment today was Mark getting his photo done with Grumpy.

Celebrate the Magic is almost better from the room, free of crowds! I continue to not enjoy Wishes outside the park, as I really like it when the fireworks are centered over the castle. Fun to see it from the room, though!

I hadn't thought about watching Celebrate the Magic without the crowds, but now you say it, that's a good point. I know what you mean about Wishes above the castle though...
That zoom is incredible! But with the naked eye, could you really see Celebrate the Magic very well? I'm thinking that zoom helped you immensely. Did Mark watch it through the zoom on his camera?
There's something to be said about the castle being in the fireworks, for sure. But lately, I'll take a different angle to avoid the crowds.
