An Animal Kingdom State of Being with Cam and Fam COMPLETED 9/18 - Page 46 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Your room looks so beautiful! Your pictures are making me so impatient for my trip in October! I only have one night in Jambo House, but I plan to enjoy the baclony while I am there!!
Glad you finally got in. Hope the animals show up soon. And hope Luke's toe is better now. I know he must have abused it in the name of Disney Magic while you were there.

Great pics of the room and resort lobby makes think I may be looking in the right direction if I can get DW to go back next year as need club level at AK to do some of the SAFARI"S I think she would love
Our whole reason for staying Club Level at Jambo House was to take the Sunrise Safari Breakfast tour, which will be in my updates when I get to June 9. Definitely worth the club level stay!

The animals, if any, will be in the update later today.

I'm not sure if check in was an adventure or an ordeal! But it did add a new dimension to the trip.

The second CM may have figured I was close to a fit when I snidely asked if we'd have a bed to sleep in tonight as she was very sweet after that. But I'm still wishing I'd have been more assertive, not ugly, just clearly stated my displeasure with the whole situation. And if I'd have known other resorts were manually checking in folks, I would have been.

Hey! It looks very familiar! In fact, my pictures look just like yours!
Except....your savannah view was much better than ours. We were the corner room and
we had a very obstructed view. But, I am not complaining! I was right next to the lounge!
Poor Luke looks pooped out! I am glad he was able to rest!
all of the pictures of the hidden Mickeys and the hidden Cams!
I kept meaning to ask you all about your view. Sorry it was very obstructed, but you all were only like 5 steps from being in the lounge.

Too bad about the check in process. You sure do have lots more patience than I would have had!! But I guess it paid off with such a great room!
I feel really sad for Luke and his toe.
Can't wait for more.
I don't usually think of myself as a patient person, so I've wondered why I didn't push for service more. I think I was a bit intimidated by club level initially.

Finding that we had a savanna view did make me feel a bit better about the lengthy wait.

Very odd as I can still see them all!

The decor of AKL is one of the reasons I love it, too!

It was fairly spacious until the couch bed was pulled out.

I did feel a bit vindicated when I saw the view from the balcony!
Nice room. Sorry about all the problems trying to check in. You'd think that Disney would have a backup plan for when the computers are down. Sorry about Luke's feet. I hope they get better.

Awesome pics of the room, Cam! We are staying Club Level at AKL in November and I made sure to get DD and DBF to take a look at all your pics. You made us so much more excited about our trip.

Hope you enjoy your stay there as much as we did! And that the check in is a breeze!
I have been behind reading trip reports and being able to post. darn work and such Now I am all caught up. first ... sorry about Luke taking the stair tumble and breaking the Toes. He looked like he was in pain when he was resting on the couch. Your room and view look wonderful, but having to wait like that for club level..seems so wrong. you should have brought out your wand and performed some magic for them/on them. Your time at US and IOA looked like fun, though I would not have cared for the crowds . I hope to go to see the WWOHP sometime in the next year or so. I too have trouble stepping out of the Disney bubble. Can't wait to read more about your trip and some more Stefanie-isms... and she is right. if you close your eyes the spiders don't know you can't see them. I love that.

Sorry about all your check-in woes! That has never happened to us, but a friend of ours had a similar issue (including unhelpful CMs) at BLT last February. Glad that you've finally gotten settled in your room, which looks just wonderful!
Can't wait to see some animals out there on the savannah!
And I had to LOL about you snapping photos of the room. I do the same thing before anyone is allowed to unpack. Thankfully my DH is also very patient, like Luke!

I actually commented to Luke that if my wand wasn't presently in Bell Services, I'd pull it out and try to work some magic.

We'd never had a moments trouble with check in until this trip and then it was a doozy.

The room and view look wonderful. The photos of Luke on the sofa had me practically in tears, though. He looked like he was in so much pain he couldn't even really relax. He was probably worrying, too, about how the injury would affect the rest of the trip and your and Stefanie's enjoyment of it.
Will I see any wildlife? Or Will I give up to check out the lounge?
June 7 Part 3
I got comfy in the lounge chair, propping my feet up on the small table, just waiting for animals to appear. I could see a few off some distance and caught them with my telephoto lens.
But until some visited my little neck of the savannah, I simply took notes. The first to arrive were the ostriches who were being fed by the keepers.
They really were following the food trail!
The Keeper here will be our guide for the Sunrise Safari Breakfast tour a couple of days later, but I didn’t know that yet. When I was editing my pictures, I thought it looked like him and enlarged it to be sure. And it was.
When the ostriches were full, they wandered away. And you all probably have now seen more ostrich pictures in one sitting than you ever dreamed you’d see. I resumed note taking, but then something hopped into sight. A bunny had appeared on the African savannah.
Again, I restarted my writing. About 20 minutes later, something new caught my eye. I glanced up to see a giraffe and sighed “Ahhhhhhh!” He found the food set out for him and stayed with me quite awhile until a truck scared him off.
Isn’t he such a cutie?! I was definitely in my happy place now!
The truck that scared my giraffe buddy away!
The final guest was a Roan Antelope.
I was one very happy girl! :
A little after 5:00, I paused in my note taking, so Stefanie and I could get drinks from the lounge. One little problem – Luke had all our room keys in his short’s pocket, so I had to wake him. He smiled, handed me the key, and told me to bring back a drink for him. I picked up a Coke, Diet Coke, and Fanta Orange for later and chose a Tusker Lager for Luke and a glass of Chardonnay for me. Back at the room we sipped on our drinks and I checked Facebook on my laptop. At some point Stefanie called her Uncle Rob who wanted to talk to me about how to celebrate his 25th Anniversary this November at Disney World. We chatted quite a while conspiring a lovely experience for him and her. She is very conservative with money; he and I were not so much in our planning. He jokingly said before he hung up that I was not complicit to his murder. I can’t wait to hear how it all goes.
