Going north, south, east and west - UPDATED 12/18 - Page 46 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thursday 23 October – part six: teach your kid some manners!
Then it was over to Epcot to see IllumiNations. Just as we got through security, it started to rain more heavily. As I said to the security guard, this wasn’t supposed to happen. We stood in the shop at International Gateway, trying to decide whether we should get an umbrella or not. We saw one, but it was a golfing umbrella and it was $40. I didn’t really want to spend that much for a few minutes and, knowing Florida weather, it could stop in a few minutes’ time or it could carry on all night. What to do? Then we saw a $10 umbrella, one that was much smaller, but I could cope with spending that much, so we did.
For the first few minutes after we got out of there, the rain continued and we got a prime spot on the bridge between the United Kingdom and France just 15 minutes before IllumiNations was due to start. Just as well we didn’t go for the $40 umbrella, as wouldn’t you know it, the rain stopped a couple of minutes later, but it was just cold up there in the wind. I was very glad that I had a shawl over my dress.
We started chatting to the people next door to us, who turned out to be from Chicago. And then just a minute or two before IllumiNations was due to start, a kid pushed his way in between us. I did stare at him, but didn’t say anything, but the woman next to me did. Almost immediately, a woman piped up behind us and said “he’s just a six year old boy who wants to see the globe.” Sure and I think we can all understand that, but teach your kid some manners. Saying “excuse me” will always get a better response than just barging in. The woman next to me and I pretty said that to her, but she seemed very ignorant and didn’t bother to apologise to us. What a rude woman and no doubt her kid will also grow up to be just as rude, if that’s the behaviour he has an example.
IllumiNations was wonderful as always and I managed to get some better photos this time.

We were definitely in the firework fallout zone though, as the wind was blowing our way and we got debris heading our way. We knew what that meant, so made a very quick beeline for the exit and were back in the Beach Club a few minutes later.
Then it was into the Marketplace to use up the rest of our snack credits. It turned out what we had five left, so we got a coconut bar each for breakfast, two bags of pretzels and a rice krispie Mickey bar and that was those gone. We had succeeded in using up all our snack and table credits that we had on the Deluxe Dining Plan. I was impressed with that. We had played the Dining Plan game and had won. It had practically killed us on some days when we had three meals in a day, but we had done it and had definitely got our money’s worth. Would I use the Deluxe Dining Plan again? 100% In fact, if our plans work out and we come back in December 2009, I think we’ll go for it for at least part of the trip. I would go for more signature meals and dinner shows, as we preferred the days that we only had two meals. I know we can get the best out of it again. My advice to anyone who enjoys fine dining would be to give the Deluxe Dining Plan a go. It was such a pleasant change to know that all our signature meals, in particular, were already paid for and not to have to worry about how much the bill would come to. I found that very relaxing.
It was back to the room then to pack the last few bits and pieces and upload the photos and then it was time for bed. Tomorrow would see the third leg of our trip begin.
Deluxe Dining Plan:
Spoodles $45.00
Beaches and Cream $44.76
Flying Fish Cafe $127.00
Snacks $14.00
Total: $230.76
Amount saved on Deluxe Dining Plan: $90.78
Total saving: $258.17
Today we walked 3.89 miles The weather today was cloudy for most of the day, with temperatures in the 80’s, but more windy with some rain in the evening. The best thing today was dinner at the Flying Fish Café. The worst thing today was the rude woman at IllumiNations. Today we tried the Wave for breakfast And the result was it’s an unusual place, but nice. The most magical moment today was watching IllumiNations.
Next: proper deep dish pizza!
By the way, we're off to Disneyland Paris in the morning for the weekend (pre-trip report can be found here ), so there won't be another update until Sunday or Monday. When there is, this trip report will be returning to the Globetrotting forum, as the next leg of our trip takes us to Chicago...
Really sad about the little kid, but his mother's attitude really takes the cake. She will probably wonder someday why her kid gets in trouble at school. He learned his people skills at home

Checking in and enjoying the pics of Flying Fish - talk about feeling like I'd come home. Sounds like you had a fabulous meal with the service it's known for. Unfortunately, our server last time was a bit inexperienced. But we're going to have to go back...
What a great way to end the WDW portion of your trip, an amazing dinner, fireworks....your shots were great by the way. I love how you caught the reflections off the water. I really loved the shot of the BC - the empty beach with the swing, it just was so pretty.
Sorry about the rude kid...I don't know how people teach their children no manners, an excuse me or would you mind if he stands there would have been fine...I would always move for a child...but it is really sad as he will probably be just like him mom
Glad that the dining plan turned out to be a great savings...I am still playing back and forth as I know I would love to get to try some more signature places on our August trip...
Have a great birthday weekend in Paris....looking forward to hearing more of your adventures when you return.
Glad you enjoyed your dinner at FF! I don't blame you for being annoyed with the mother of the rude child. If it was so important for her child to see the Illuminations show then she should have gotten there early for him to have a good view. Looking forward to reading about the next leg of your journey. Have fun in Disneyland Paris.
