We're going to WDW! Adventures of a Mom & Toddler Trip, PTR - Page 45 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Have you gotten your Disney mail yet? I got mine on Monday and I was soooo excited. Since your right behind me you should have gotten it or will get it really soon!
Don't worry about not getting to the packing. I don't pack until at least 2 days before since I'm petrified of wrinkles. And once I get to the room I unpack like a crazy lady in order to get rid of them as quickly as possible!
It will be here before you know it and unfortunately be over as quickly...at least that's what I'm afraid of.
Thanks for all of the sweet comments everyone. We just got home from Skyler's Speech Evaluation, and now I can't stop crying. Erick & DMil came with me to the Evaluation. He is severely speech delayed, so now we have to take him to Speech Therapy 2-5 days a week. Not only that, he was showing a lot of signs of Autism. She wants us to take him to a Neurologist who will hopefully tell us he isn't Autistic. I really hope this isn't the case. I may not be on the boards much now that I have a lot of work to do with Skyler, and when I get him to sleep tonight I need to start searching our insurance company's website for a Neurologist that will take our insurance. I do however feel like our vacation now isn't going to feel like a vacation with homework for Skyler to do from his Speech Pathologist. All of these doctors appointments for him is probably driving me crazy at this point especially before a vacation, but I know he needs to do it and we need to do this for him. Sorry for my long ramble. Things like this make me sad.

Melissa, still no Disney Mail yet i hope it comes soon. Congrats on getting your's. I highly doubt our room will be ready when we check in, as we will probably arrive there at 7-7:30 am. I normally too am a very last minute packer, but that is my very unorganized brain for you. I am trying to keep myself from doing that this time though. I did make a little progress on that though, as I have a few laundry baskets of clean clothes to put away, as I did separate some of the clothes into a separate basket with all Disney Clothes to be packed, including Skyler's 2 new pair of short PJs(I need to bring in his pant pjs from our car to
pack) along with a brand new Toy Story outfit his Grammie bought him yesterday that she has insisted he wear prior to our trip. My mom thinks I'm od when it comes to removing wrinkles in my clothes. Either they're hung in the bathroom with the steam from thr shower to get them out, or tosse in the dryer. I haven't trusted myself with an iron in several years after burning my arm with one.
I do agree with you that as soon as the trip arrives, it ends all too soon as well.
Oh and Melissa & Danielle,we will probably be in the Rockville, MD area a few times a week for his Speech Therapy if either of you are able to meet up.

just a note from an autistic adult
as children we can be difficult so if ur mourning for u i understand however if ur mourning for him autism is a huge spectrum and these days there are a lot of services to help kids cope and understand the world around them autism isnt the end of the world its just a different way of viewing it it is thought that Einstein had autism(and failed 3rd grade math) would he have come up with the theory of relativity if he didnt see the world differently?
if any of this has come across as accusatory im sorry im trying to keep u from falling into the trap of "my child is defective" that so many parents fall into
best of luck to u whatever u decide

Liz, thank you for your reply? I didn't take it acqusatory at all. I'm just a tad overwhelmed, which is probably where my emotions are getting the bestof me. Believe me, both my DH and I (and his siblings and my own) allhave various learning disabilities, and believe it or not bot of us went to a college for students with learning disabilities, even some with Autism. I think I was more shocked to hear Autism come from his Evaluation since nobody else on either one of our families have ever been diagnosed with it. It does seem hard to believe, at least from my perspective since he is a very happy child, and maybe I just don't see it at all, and I'm home with him the most. We're certainly parents who woulddoanything tohelp him, and become more educated on how we can help him and let him succeed in life. I'm sorry if I came off as mourning. It probably just hit me the wrong way when I left his Evaluation. I think with our Family Physician making me scheduling all these apointments for him with various physicians beore our trip and having to go back to her just makes it all more overwhelming too. I know we want to try to make school not as difficult for him as it was for the both of us, an it did take me a long time to cope with my own ADHD and Executive Control Defecit over the past 13 years I've been diagnosed with it. I appreciate your input though! Thank you.
Marnie, thank you for the pixies. It certainly was a rough afternoon.
Well on a postive note, our DME Vouchers arrived in the mail today! . This trip is starting to feel even more official now! Not only that, but very much to my surprise, a check arrived in the mail from my former Doctor's Office in Boston (3-4 years later) that I had apparently overpaid a bill or Co-pay for them, so they sent a check that arrived today. It was only $20, but still $20 is better than nothing back from them. Erick & I had to run an erand today, and that money has been deposited into my other Checking Account as some spending money for Disney (which Erick thought I should put it toward). Erick actually finally had a Saturday entirely off of work, and he Skyler & I spent a very relaxing day out of the house. We took him to the big park near our home with his TS Bouncy Ball and his favorite soccer ball to kick & throw around, besides enjoying the two different playground set ups for children 2-5 years old (they have 2 more for older children too). Besides a few Baseball/Softball games going on at the park, the playground had very few children over there, which made it quite enjoyable. We loved watching Skyler climb up and down the play gym areas all on his own, and even with the two of us. We also enjoyed a few more hours out having lunch at Chuck E Cheese and playing games. It was so nice spending the day as a family of 3 as opposed to taking Skyler out by myself, like I usually do. It was also nice letting Erick enjoy a few hours away from us with one of his friends from Home Depot even just taking a drive an hour away for Ice Cream, while Skyler & I stayed home. I have done my homework and checked the insurance company for names and numbers of Pediatric Neurologists who cover our insurance, which I will have to call on Monday to set up that appointment for Skyler.
At least Saturday emotionally was a better day. I did even look up the symptoms and signs of Autism online, and now I certainly understand where Skyler's Speech Therapist noticed signs of Autism in his behavior during his Evaluation. It also explains how he acts at home too. All I can say is I am so thankful to have a very supportive Husband and Support System at home, and Erick's Parents are wonderful when it comes to helping us with Skyler in any way possible, and just wonderful people in general. I still need to inform my mom (my dad on the other hand if I ever talk to him again may be another story), but I know Erick & I are completely dedicated to getting Skyler all the help he needs no matter the outcome.
I know we are getting closer to our trip, and sadly Skyler decided he wanted to ruin Mommy's hard work on our Countdown Calendar. All I can say is little boys will be little boys. Just not something to get upset over. I'm just so glad it's getting closer by the day and being home in Florida for nearly a week. I can truely say that every time I hear the songs "Home" by Daughtry, "Who Says You Can't Go Home" by Bon Jovi, & "You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home" from Hannah Montana the Movie, I get the happiest tears in my eyes knowing I'll be home and seeing my mom again. I hope everyone is enjoying your weekend.
