As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Eileen, you are so funny!! I was thinking about you several times on our trip to WDW, bagpiper and Donald Duck. And regarding the squeek squeeking of the stroller, all I have to say is I swear wasn't me because we weren't there yet and you should try pushing said stroller squeek, squeeek, squeeek. UUGHH! Now I am picturing everyone around us doing just what you did.

I apologize for not commenting on this TR as much as I would have liked. I've misplaced my camera (actually I'm pretty sure that my boss' wife has it (don't ask!)) and I've been hoping to get it back so I could post some of my own pictures. Maybe I'll do that at the end? Anyway...

My memory was that there weren't any tables for 5 explicitly, and if there were I'd just act all bossy and ugly American-like and demand to be seated as a party of 6. I hear the French LOVE that. Anyway, it was no problem adding a guest and we were soon sitting at a lovely round table designed for 5 or 6 people.

Thankfully, I didn't slosh any over the side of the glass, but it wasn’t my finest moment . . . although everyone at the table seemed to really (and I mean really ) enjoy it.
Jill- you know that when I mock you openly and without reservation it means that you've completely wormed your way into my heart right? Just ask Eileen! But, you're selling yourself short. Yes, the swirl itself wasn't, shall we say, artful. But, when we mocked you, you just went with it, miming that you were going to toss it over both shoulders for good luck like salt or splash it behind your ears like perfume. In fact, I think the dash behind the ears routine became our visual representation of that meal for the rest of the weekend. I that!

Sancerre is a town in the Loire Valley in NW France that is known as the spiritual home of Sauvingnon Blanc. Almost all of the wine produced there is Sauvignon Blanc--although they do produce some very light Pinot Noir. Or maybe I ordered the Pinot Blanc, but thats a lesson for another time?
I ordered a bottle of red--a Bordeaux I think? The waiter tried to dissuade me--saying he wasn't a fan of that bottle, but recommended two other more expensive bottles--and brought three small glasses for Bob and I to taste. What bottle did we order? The one I had picked out originally.
One of my joys of this trip was watching you, Bob, and Larry pick out and enjoy wine. Larry had one time talked about wanting to "jump in and splash around" in one of the glasses he ordered (I think at California Grill.) Isn't that just the best visual of a truly tasty bottle of wine? And my darling Heather just knows her stuff! Her picks were perfection, and I love how you can tell how much she cares for her friends in how she ensures that we get the right product and the best service at restaurants. Permit me to get sappy for a minute: I've become like a feisty mama bear about Passporter because it has introduced me to some of the most fascinating, kindest, best people I've ever met. And Chefs de France was perfection because I was dining with 5 of them!

After a moment, I couldn't take it anymore, so I slowed my pace significantly to let the mom put some distance between us. Aahhhhh... my nerves recovered after she was a good 100 feet ahead of us and we toddled along some more.
I was waiting and waiting for this story. The slow, continuous squeak of the stroller was flippin' hilarious. I'm sure it was just a frazzled mom, who'd been out in the sun at Epcot but we had all kinds of fun imagining the back story. You have to realize that her pace was really, really slow and it actually didn't even look like there was a kid in the stroller. Plus the lighting at Epcot is so dim around Japan, it added to the creepy mood. So, we figured she was some serial killer or crazy person who didn't even have kids who came into Epcot to torment her prey with the long drawn out squeal of a squeaky stroller. We all were engaging in that nervous laughter when we managed to escape from her sights.
But then...

Ackk... she must've stopped in at the American pavilion and now she was passing right near us. I had to turn away to mask the bark of laughter that threatened to explode right in her ear. Yipes! The gang all smothered snickers and we pulled ourselves together before heading off to the meet.
Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh! Seriously, I love you crazy, squeaky-stroller lady! I wasn't smothering snickers, I was doubled over, crossing legs and screaming with laughter.

Dang it! I think I was making sure that I didn't have any liquid evidence of the encounter with squeaky-stroller lady (TMI?) during this time and I never got an Italian margarita. And now I find out that I might have been able to score one for free?

Do you believe that? Admit it, some of you do! Actually, I was crying right there with the best of them, and now I'm crying again... because of that dangling participle that I can't fix in the last paragraph without sounding totally pretentious (not that it's stopped me before.)
After Illuminations, oh after Illuminations, Eileen got her just desserts. Let me just illuminate you on her true character. It's not so easy to get in the way back of an SUV when you're pushing 40, you've been walking around a theme park all day, and you've consumed a couple of adult beverages. It's even harder to get out of said SUV gracefully. I think some people might have even made "beep, beep, beep" sounds as someone was trying to exit backwards out of said SUV. (OK. I admit it. That was me.) And, then some people might take pictures to try to capture the difficulty of getting in and out of said SUV...
So, some people might deserve to be left in the Epcot parking lot. I'm just sayin'!
I also have to admit that there may have been a small puddle in the way back of said SUV after the stunt was executed so brilliantly by Shashi. Best. Night. Ever.

Sharon--Man, that D23 Day was awesome. So worth your $195.
Poor Eileen. I'll be your new friend!
The D23 was well worth the money! And you've only heard about day 1! And I forgot to mention that in addition to the two days park tickets and Disney Quest tickets, you also got a MVMCP ticket as well!

We hung out with a gazzilion DISers until 9:30. We were escorted back to Pixar Place at 9:30 by a group of green army men and Sarge. We had Pixar Place, TSMM, the shops, and character meet to ourselves until 12:30 am. I did get to see Carrie there along with Molly & Joey. Fun, fun evening for us all.
I'm nerdy too! I was trying to figure out how things would work myself. I think we must've gotten to TSMM at about 8:30, since there were still regular park guests in line and they were just starting to set up for the DIS event as we were leaving.

Mickey didn't mind. In fact, the only one who ever complains is Donald Duck, and that's usually when I have Mickey Mouse on my shirt! Once Donald made me cover it up in the photo!

Like I said before, it was worth every penny of the $195. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested (I know they're doing it again this year).

Oh yes! The swirling came up while we were enjoying the wine at our villa. And we all practiced swirling (I am not good at swirling either ).
