A 40th celebration to end the world! COMPLETED 4/23 - Page 43 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Despite the rain, great pictures from your tour. I feel bad for that lady who took the tumble. I would have been nervous going down that hill in the rain thinking I was the one who was going to fall!

That fort (Castillo) looks really cool. Something I would like to see as well. Too bad about the rain though. I don't mind the rain itself, but I hate walking around in wet shoes. Thats the worse. Well I really don't want it to rain either, but my first thought is my feet.
That tour looked really interesting. But I can certainly see how it would be much more enjoyable in better weather! I hope you get to do the Segway tour.
I think I'm finally caught up. I haven't been on the internet for a few days and got really behind. Sorry about all the rain. I hate walking in the rain and especially getting my shoes wet. My daughter has a passport from the national parks and also likes to go to different ones to get the stamps. Some of them have more than one place to get a stamp and each one is different. Your pictures are beautiful.
Liz
I am so glad you were not the one who fell, but poor lady. I'm also accident prone and thought about the slipperiness of you all walking on stone in the rain. Luke would have cautioned me to wear water shoes as he does when it rains here. I really think I would enjoy this tour, but I'm sure it would be much easier to take in sunny, breezy weather. I love the pictures of the "little" boat in port.

I love the way you can get different stamps for each park, although it does mean your passport fills up quite quickly...

Ok, I have to ask - what are water shoes? I've never heard of those before.
Wednesday 19 December part four: will we be able to do our Segway tour in this weather?
We headed back to the ship, grabbing some photos on the way. Its a lovely city, and Im sure its 100 times better when the sun is out
I guess every city has to have one of these I thought this was pretty cool, but a bit weird too, as this is my bank at home. I guess it makes sense though, as its Spanish owned
Just as we got back to the Fantasy, the rain turned a heck of a lot heavier, and we were soaked to the skin. Great!
As soon as we got back, we went to guest services to ask about the Segway tour this afternoon. We were surprised to find it hadnt already been cancelled, given the wet state of the streets, but they told us they leave it as long as possible before cancelling
We headed back to the room to get out of our soaking wet things and into dry clothes. I did offer to go up to the Cove Café to get some hot chocolate with amaretto for both of us, but it ended up with Mark coming up with me. Its probably just as well he did, as it took forever to get the hot chocolates, something to do with a lack of amaretto we think
No-one in there cant think why?
It was very relaxing just sitting there, with Mark reading, and me updating the trip report on the laptop. The place was packed out though, which really surprised me. I just wasnt expecting it to be this busy on a port day
We got some snacks to keep us going
When the hot chocolate with amaretto did arrive, it was very nice, and just what we both needed. However, I do have a bone to pick with Disney here. Im sorry, but having our cruise director booming away in here with his announcements really spoilt the atmosphere in here, which was a real shame.
We headed out of there just after midday, and got some food at Flos V8 Café, with Mark getting a hot dog, and me getting a salmon sandwich.
We headed back to the room to eat them, and as we did, we watched the Holland America cruise ship come in. My goodness, the ships today are massive, but then again, I guess you could say that about the Fantasy. As you can see, the weather had improved considerably since earlier.
Next: so much for security mode, lets go for electrocution mode
It rained even heavier?! The city does look very nice even in the rain, though. I just love Cove Cafe when the weather's nasty. So cozy. And I see my favorite snack on your plate-- the mini brioche bun!

I hope the rain has now officially stopped and you can go on the segways.
Do you see the shoes Claire is wearing? Those are water shoes. They are rubber on the bottom and I can't tell you what the material is, but they don't soak water and you can wear them in and out of the water. They are very flexible, and not very comfy just to wear around, but to go in and out of water they are great. Really good when you go in water with a pebbley bottom like parts of CC tends to have.

I must admit we loved the Cove Café when we were in Alaska and it was a cold day. As you say, it's nice and cozy in there.

Oh neat - thanks for the explanation and the photo.
