Forever Young: A Disneyland Trip 50 Years in the Making COMPLETED 1/16/16 - Page 43 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What a wonderful tour of the Dream Suite!! It looks fabulous!!! Great photos from Tarzan's treehouse as well. Looking forward to hearing about your dinner at Blue Bayou!
I could sense the felling of awe in you words as I read about the Dream Suite. I know how you felt while in the suite. In 2008, I was able to tour the Cinderella Castle Suite at WDW. They allowed us to take pix while touring. It was amazing just as the one in Disneyland. The art and the ceiling at the tub look similar. It was great that you were able to find the pix online. Thanks for sharing.
I'm not sure why we weren't allowed to photograph the suite, but I think it is so cool that you got to in Cinderella's Suite.

This was one of my must dos because of my love of the movie or we might have wimped out, too.

I'm glad you've learned some stuff. I'll admit while we were there I wished I had read as many DLR trip reports as I had WDW because I've always learned so much and enjoyed so much more of the parks by reading others' experiences.
Great pictures from Tarzan's treehouse and Pirates!

I don't know what it is about the Treehouse, but it's one of my favorite things! I just love walking through it. The details are amazing, aren't they?
Thanks! Sometimes I get an artsy photo idea that actual works just like I want. The Treehouses at both parks are favorites for me. As a little girl, I dreamed of living in a treehouse or a cabin so these totally fascinate me. Disney does pack with with the coolest details, too. As I typed the update I tried to remember if we could actually here the music to the Terk section in the camp. I may have just been imagining it as Luke was playing all the instruments.

The tour of the Dream Suite really was the perfect ending.

After climbing out of our boat on Pirates of the Caribbean, our plan was to head into Adventureland to ride two attractions that we hadn’t made it to yet though we walked by them on the tour. First would be the Indiana Jones Adventure. Since we’d been on the tour the whole morning, we hadn’t been able to get FastPasses for anything, so it would be the standby lines for us, and this one was long. I don’t remember the wait time specifically, but I do remember that we went way over whatever time was posted. The FastPass line for some reason was packed so that factored into the speed of the standby line. Who knows maybe the ride had been down for a length of time earlier in the day!?
Again this queue has an extensive portion outside, but as you’ll eventually see in a few of my photos there is a considerable lengthy indoors queue as well. In fact once we got inside we had lots of empty space in the line until we were much closer to boarding. I’m not sure why they had us queuing up so long outside in this crazy heat, but they did. Anyway, thank goodness for Disney’s creativity with their queues because I had lots of cool stuff to photographer as we dawdled through the line.
As Indiana Jones so famously says in the first installment, Raiders of the Lost Ark, “Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?”
The entire queue represented various scenes from the movie. Closer to entering the building, I really felt like we were about to enter some ancient temple.
Finally, we were inside where I didn’t get too many photos because as I mentioned earlier, the line really moved from this point on. This part of the queue went very quickly. Overall, this ride is Dinosaur with different theme. But my opinion is that it is way cooler than Dinosaur because I could actually see the whole time, the car moved with jerky stops and starts, but seemed smoother, and I love Indiana Jones, not so much dinosaurs.
Having visited several ancient temples and other sites in the East, what should we do next? Visit the major rivers of the world by riding Jungle Cruise. I’ve appreciated all the little details and touches in the WDW version of this ride, and found new ones hiding everywhere in the Disneyland version. The bird in the photo below actually was talking or making some kind of noise.
After a 20 or so minute wait, we boarded our vessel and Skipper Reese prepared us for the adventures ahead. The two versions, Disney World versus Disneyland, are quite similar but there are subtle small differences. But at either park it’s simply a classic.
From the rivers of the world, we journey to Mexico where Luke requested his photo with the Day of the Dead celebration. Actually, we were in New Orleans Square with a bit of Mexican flair.
Our goal now was to catch a train, a Wild West train, so we headed to Frontierland to ride Big Thunder Mountain. The standby queue here was one of my favorites as it even allowed me to catch photos of trains and the setting very easily. I also loved the little town that is a part of the Disneyland version.
NEXT: A Hidden Mickey, Time with a Fall Quartet, and a Jazzy Dinner
Just a little whining and a pixie request. Luke and I were getting ready for a walk yesterday when I had a little accident. I've put on my sunglasses hundreds, maybe thousands, of times, but yesterday I poked my left eye pretty hard with the earpiece. It hurt, but we went ahead with the walk. At first I thought maybe I had torn my contact lens, but the longer we were out the more I came to the conclusion that I had caused some bleeding. A quick look in the mirror when we got back told me I definitely had. It is a subconjunctival hemorrhage or eye bleeding, which looks so much worse than it feels. Even though I can still see just fine, it looks horrible. When I volunteered yesterday afternoon, I could tell it made clients squeamish. Thank goodness, I can't see it all the time. It is a bit worse today with the red having spread a bit, but that is common. Really I just have to be patient while it clears up on its own. There is no treatment other than time. I've been joking that with my green eyes I am decked out for the Christmas holiday.
Lots of for your eye. Ouch! I pray it heals up quickly. Eyes freak me out anyway, so I'd really be whining if it happened to me.
As for your updates-they were great. You take some of the best pics! I so need to learn to SLOW DOWN and take pics while in the queues. I'm always full steam ahead though. LOL

When I first saw the bright red in my eye, I was close to freaking out.
Most of my queue photos come from having to wait, which makes me antsy. But taking photos easy that.

We did have loads of fun. The queues to these three rides were really well done.

The little details have become my favorite part of Disney theming.
