Florida flowers and Caribbean cruising THIS SECTION COMPLETED 5/7 - Page 42 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thursday 26 February – part five: last table sitting…
Now by now, the show was just about done, and a lot of tables left, including Jennifer’s, and we were only just getting our dessert, which shows how slow service was this evening. I think that’s really unforgiveable, given that Jennifer and Claire had now said something about this aspect of the meals. In fact, the ordering of my photos clearly shows the show had finished before we got our desserts, as these all come before they turned up…
For dessert, Mark had the crunchy walnut cake, dark chocolate mousse and raspberry coulis:
I opted for the cookies ‘n cream sundae, cookies and cream ice cream with chocolate sauce and chocolate chip cookies, as I figured I’d get no argument about it containing fruit. How awful that I felt that way!
It was at this point that we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee, the first time we’ve been given the chance this cruise so ourselves and Sandra and Diana took up the option. The tea, coffee and sugar turned up Ok, but when we asked Duarte for milk and cream, he looked absolutely shocked. We just couldn’t believe it. Ok, so having milk in tea isn’t that usual, but people often have cream in coffee, which is what Sandra was having. As for how the milk came out, well we could only laugh…
Right, remember that I said I’d have the bottles of wine at the end of the meal? Well, I had to ask Maji what Duarte was doing, and where they were, because seriously they’d turned the lights up, and we were the only table left, but none of us were leaving until they found out how long it was going to take for our wine to turn up. The answer was about 7:55pm, 20 minutes before the next sitting! We were all horrified by the turn of events tonight, and Maji even had the balls to give us the spiel about the survey, saying that we should “judge them on every night from the first to the last. Well, given that mate, you are in big trouble, as this has been by far the worst night for service!
As we left, I think the whole table decided that they’d eat in Cabanas tomorrow morning, as we all kept saying that we dreaded to think what time we’d be done with breakfast if we came back here, and had to deal with them. It wasn’t a great end to the cruise in dining terms. We all said our goodbyes, and while we had got on together Ok, it hadn’t been a massive success in partnering people together. Let’s just say that, nice as everyone was, we don’t plan on staying in touch with anyone, which is a real shame, after having made some great friends on our tables on previous cruises.
We headed up to the DVC desk to see what goodies they had for us. We were offered the blue baseball caps, but we really don’t like the design of them (they’re very gaudy) so we said thanks, but thanks and instead, we got some drinks mugs, which was at least new. The problem is their giveaways are all getting a bit samey now.
Mugs in hand, we headed back to the room to finish off the packing. I think all three cases were outside the door before 8:30pm, which we thought was good going. I retired to complete my survey, and unsurprisingly, the dining team did not fare well on my rankings….
The weather today was hot and sunny, but windier, with temperatures in the low 80s. The best thing today was Palo brunch. The worst thing today was the appalling service at dinner. Today we tried the stem to stern wine tasting And the result was it wasn’t really our thing and we certainly wouldn’t do it again. The most magical moment today was spending some quality time with Jennifer after so long.
Sorry Cheryl, but I have to laugh at that milk carton for your tea! Such a sad last dinner, what a shame, and at such a fun restaurant too! Did you ever get your wine?? I am so impressed that you guys were done with packing by 8:30. I hate packing up, it is so sad and I am always afraid I am going to forget to leave out clothes for the next day for someone. Our tradition is to get packed up and then the kids get one last evening in the kids clubs while we go to Pink for one last cocktail. Very smart to hit Cabanas the next morning.
Wow! That whole dinner was a disaster! The little milk carton is the icing on the cake!! My goodness! It sounds like a smart idea to eat at Cabana's in the morning.

Maybe this was the servers last cruise and their contract is up. Let's hope so anyway because that's terrible service. Not the best way to end the cruise.

The service you had was really dreadful and would be enough to make me not book with DCL again. The ships are beautiful, and the food is good (not great, IMO), but in my experience it's been the service that has made the difference. FANTASTIC servers and crew in all departments. People so good at their jobs that it just makes you smile and feel lucky to be there. If that's missing, I don't know what the extra cost of DCL is for.
I'm sorry the poor service spoiled your last dinner on board I find it especially weird that you were served your meal so slowly - after all, you were in main dining, meaning they were on the clock as the second dining people would be coming in...

Wow, that is unbelievable! If this were my first cruise, they would have totally blown it as far as having me come back for another cruise. We've never had horrible service, we've had a couple of newbies and as the cruise went along they got better as they got their feet under themselves, but wow!
Wow, talk about terrible service! I think you made the right call to go to Cabanas for breakfast the next day. I don't think the food is very good in the dining rooms on the last morning anyhow. I've had dry pancakes and rubbery eggs. I'm super impressed that you got your suitcases out at 8:30! I'm usually packing mine right up until the last minute.
